I have noticed that it is taking too long to download YouTube videos. I have tried a few things: emptied cache, reset Safari, downloaded OnyX and cleaned everything up I could. I also reset my wireless router, but those have not worked. I have also updated Adobe FlashPlayer, Flip4Mac, and checked for new updates from Apple. With all of that, nothing has seemed to work. Not sure what to do next.

I'm at a university and I've had a MacBook Pro for about a year now. The OS is Mac OS X 10.5.8. The processor is 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. The Memory is 4 GB DDR2. When I'm at the University we use a secure wireless network. When I option click on the AirPort icon, I get the following readings:

Because it's a university-wide system, I have no idea what the router information is. When I asked our IT staff about it - a group of part-time college students - they just shrug and tell me everything is working. I can download movie files in an instant. Zip files, even the most basic ones, take about half an hour. This is true even when the movie and the zip file is on the same website. A movie file, six or eight times the size of the zip, downloads much faster. I've read through this forum and others. I followed this suggestion: I deleted my AirPort setting and reinstalled it under "wireless". This did not seem to change anything.
During the past week or so, I've had difficulty accessing YouTube videos. At first, they would not load at all; now, in the past couple of days, they have been loading after a couple of minutes of leaving the page open. I have installed the lastest version of the flash play and emptied my cache on Safari.Â

Safari doesn't reload fast and crashes / hangs frequently. Youtube takes a long time to load and when it's up, the visuals, audio are jerky. Vimeo hardly loads up. This machine is only about a month old and it acts up sluggishly. Some other programs running are slow too.

I had codes for a movie to get from the itunes store. I started downloading them yesterday for 1 movie and the extras to that movie and it needed 20+ hrs for it to finish. Is that normal? I got 7 hrs to go with one download completed. I have a macbook pro if that matters.

I used to use Jdownloader , but downloading stops with a message saying "Aborted" , and sometimes when it is downloaded , the video will be corrupted with a blackout.

So I am trying to download a video, which is online only and I was wondering if there is any way to do that? I have a slow internet and it would be nice to have it on my computer so I can watch it whenever i want it. She can use the Activity window in Safari to download a YouTube video, but after the download is finished (20MB or 6MB or ...), the downloaded file is called "videoplayback", without the .flv suffix. Even if she appends the .flv suffix, she can't play them back in VLC or SWF + FLV Player.
It's no biggie, as she can use KeepVid, but I was just curious, why it is that way. Does anyone know?

What has happened to video downloads in YouTube? In the Activity window I used to be able to option double click on the video file and it would download so that I can view offline. Now I notice that video files are broken into 1.7MB pieces and have an expiry time (I think(?)). Is this YouTube's attempt at controlling piracy? So how can someone download these videos for offline viewing? I don't do this to pirate anything.
Its simply that its more convenient to have it on my disk for a short period of time so that I can view it when offline or want to have much quicker access to the video e.g. I have been following some tutorials on playing the guitar. Often I need to start and stop and search through the video for a particular segment. If I have to wait for the video to load from YouTube it takes some seconds or minutes which can be quite frustrating.

I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook with 2Gb ram and its running 10.5.2 (update went fine) and for some time now the start up of my mac has been very long. It sometimes take in excess of 30 minutes to turn on. It waits on the grey apple screen with the apple logo and the spinning loading sign near the bottom. Is there anything i could try without doing any major resets or reinstalls?

Then, it will take 1 second to start up. On Firefox, it usually takes 5 to 6 bounces to start up as well. Could there be a lot going on through my activity monitor?

But everytime i try to access the ext hdd, there will be the dreaded beach ball ands takes around 3-5mins before the files can be displayed on finder. I never had this problem when it is plugged into my windows PC. My ext hard disk is currently formated in NTFS, im accessing the files through my mac using NTFS-3G. Could this be a reason?

My daughter purchased a MacBook Air 13" last 1.7 GH Intel Core i5, 4GB Memory. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter noticed that her computer was taking a long time to boot up. Apparently the bootup time has progressively lengthened to 3 - 5 minutes to get to her desktop. What happens is the boot-up process seems to stall on a grey screen and beach-balls until the desktop eventually appears.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had not downloaded anything or even had anything that was new to be 6 gigabyte, but I had deleted alot of useless programs from my computer which I saved about 4 gigabyte, but why would time machine backup a random 6gigs...then the backup for some reason didn't really finish and the last backup it stated was may 3rd which is wrong. Then a few minutes ago again I wanted to backup but then it took a whopping 9 gigs of whatever crap! OMG! That makes like 15-16gigs in total which is like 1/4 of my entire 'used' portion of the harddrive.
It seems that everytime I delete a program it just backs up white bytes or something and it even made my 420 gigs of free space all the way down to like 402 gigs. Sorry about the crappy grammar etc etc, but this is freaky and is pissing me off and stupid time machine won't even let us see what it is god dam backing up....and why on earth did apple make restoring from a backup ONLY from your disk? My leopard disk is broken (the one that came with my computer) and my restore discs are tiger, because apple decided to make them seperate....is there a program to merge all my time machine backups and see what time machine backed up new and also restore from a time machine backup? Or am I asking for too much, might as well email apple.
When I try to start up my computer it takes between 3-5 minutes to start back up again.
