MacBook Pro :: Shuts Down When Closed With Low Battery - Is It Normal

May 7, 2010

Just wondering, is it normal that when i close the lid of my MBP at low battery (2-5 percent), it shuts down completely. When i plug it in and turn it on, it goes to the reload thing where it continues your previous session.

2008 Unibody MacBook Pro Shuts Down When Lid Closed While On Battery

Jun 12, 2012

I did some google searches, but could not find anything that was exactly my issue. I have a 2008 MBP unibody. If the MBP is on battery only and I close the lid, the notebook shuts down completely. This is even when the battery is fully charged. However if while plugged in and I do the same, the computer "sleeps" as advertised. I have reset both the SMC and PRAM to no avail. The main thing that bothers me is it seems like when this happens on battery, its almost as if the computer is getting a hard shut down. The machine acts as if the battery was pulled while the lid was closed and this is obviously not good for the hardware or sofware.

MacBook :: Unable To Use System With Battery / Computer Shuts Down Hwen Start From Battery

Apr 18, 2008

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.

When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

MacBook Pro :: Shuts Down Instead Of Sleep When Out Of Battery

Sep 20, 2007

Is it strange that my MacBook now just shuts down when it runs out of battery instead of just going into sleep mode? It's about two weeks old now. It used to go into sleep mode, but now it just shuts down once the battery is down. Also, I had the most wonderful experience with Apple. My first macbook (three weeks ago) had a small chip on the screen. When I finally noticed it, I thought it was a large piece of dust so it wasn't too terrible. I tried to exchange it at the local store where I purchased it, but it had already been four days and I had cut out the UPC for the printer and ipod rebate the day before and sent it out. So they recommended that I go see a mac genius and see if I can get the screen replaced because I could no longer exchange it or return it (risk losing my rebates).

So, a bit upset that I was too prompt about getting the rebates in, I scheduled an appointment with a genius. When I spoke to him, he just went to the back and got the manager. The manager said instead fixing the screen, he'd liked to give me a new macbook and instant reimbursement for the ipod and printer! (the rebates I sent in will be rejected since the mac has been returned). The new macbook I noticed has a much louder superdrive seems to be working hard every time the computer wakes up and when I open it, but that definitely beats a chip on the screen. But now it doesn't go to sleep after the battery gets low, but instead shuts off.

MacBook :: Shuts Down On 60% Battery Percentage?

Mine has already more than 722 and is about 2 years old, but still has 100% life with sometimes dropping to 96%.Has somebody else exp. this kind of long life of the battery ? How long can a battery actually last ?

MacBook Pro :: 55% Battery Goes To 0% In 1 Hour - Is It Normal

Dec 9, 2009

All I was doing was watching Brothers & Sisters on ABC's web site... So, yes, I was using the wi-fi. I had screen brightness dimmed to about 50%, and I turned the backlight off on the keyboard... So is 1 hour normal?

I noticed the fan was running the whole time. I didn't realize watching a video online would cause the processor to heat up so much!!

I checked the CPU utilization, and definitely Safari was cranking it up there...

MacBook Pro :: Is Battery Condition Normal?

Feb 20, 2010

I just got my first 13' MacBook Pro 1 week ago and a couple of days I ran a cross a thread about how to look up your battery condition and most peoples said their Battery Condition was "Good" but mine is showing "Normal" and I just got it a week ago. My question is, is this really normal or should it say Good?

MacBook Pro :: Is This Normal Battery Drain?

Jul 12, 2010

After about two hours my battery on my 13" mbp is at 35% from 100%.

All i did was some web browsing and about half an hour of video chatting on ichat. My brightness is at halfway.

is this normal drain? the specs say 10 hours, but when i first got it it lived for about 6 hours, which was plenty for me.

i've noticed recently that my battery has been acting funny, i'm thinking it may be because of my heavy audio work with garage band and reason.

the app coconut battery says my battery capacity is at 94% so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I've had this laptop for about 3 months, and i've properly calibrated it twice.

Laptops :: MacBook Pro Loses Battery Charge With Cover Closed?

Nov 13, 2010

I just bought a new MacBook Pro with a solid state (flash memory) disk. The battery life is good while I'm using it, but if I leave it with the cover off for a few days (asleep, I assume), it'll be mostly discharged when I open it up. I assume this isn't normal - it shouldn't be losing that much charge when closed and hibernating. I don't have "wake for ethernet access" checked, if that makes a difference. What's going on - why won't it hibernate?

MacBook Pro :: 13" Shuts Down On Battery Drain?

Sep 16, 2010

I have a 2010 13" MBP that will shut itself off instead of going to sleep when the battery is drained. I tried recalibrating and resetting the SMC, as well as disabling hibernate, but the same thing happens. The computer is barely a month old. Anybody else with a 13" experiencing this? I posted this issue on the Apple forums and someone replied stating that they heard Apple is looking into it, but usually occurs with i5 and i7 machines.

MacBook Pro :: Shuts Down When There Is Still Plenty Of Battery Left?

Oct 27, 2010

My Macbook Pro keeps shutting down before I reach zero percent battery and often when the battery still has 25% left. I am wondering if this is a software issue that may be fixed or if there is something incompatible with my hardware. I am running 10.6.4 with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory bought in April of 2007. My mac was originally running Tiger, but a few months ago I updated to Snow Leopard.

MacBook Pro :: 1strev Battery Lasts Until 76% And Shuts Off?

Jul 9, 2008

I have a 1st revision Macbook Pro 15" that's about 2 years and a few months old, and all of a sudden the battery will not provide power past approximately 76%. As soon as the the battery displays, 75% or 76% of the charge remaining, the laptop shuts off completely, does not warn me that my battery is low, and does not sleep or save the contents of my RAM - nothing it should be doing. The battery is only at 149 cycles as of today, and I don't have any sort of AppleCare plan. Is this something I can get replaced under a warranty, or would I have to shell out for a new battery? And is it even worth it?

MacBook Pro :: Late 2007 Battery Shuts Off?

Jul 22, 2009

Recently my battery health has dropped to 21% with only 79 cycles. I have tried calibrating the battery and have always done it at least once a month. Just this morning I was running on battery power and it shut off with 65% of charge left. I'm off to college in a month and am wondering if Apple will replace my battery even though I'm not under warranty.

I would take it to an Apple Store but unfortunately the closest one is an hour and a half drive away. Should I try calling Apple?

MacBook :: Shuts Down When Unplugged - Battery Is Good

Jan 10, 2010

I have a 3 1/2 year old Macbook, my Applecare has ran out. About six months ago my computer began shutting off immediately when unplugged. (Was letting my roomates use the computer, came home one day and it started doing this.) I believe that my battery is OK, it performs between 97% and 99% consistently. When I do the battery test, all of the lights light up.

I've read through the forums and it seems a lot of people are having this problem, but their batteries are bad. What are some options/solutions to this problem? I am willing to invest money wisely into the computer to keep it running smoothly for a while.

MacBook :: Doesn't Indicate Low Battery - Shuts Down Unexpectedly

Mar 25, 2010

I own the first 'remolded' revision of the Macbook released in '08 (5,1), and have had it for over a year now. Recently though, after 10 or so minutes running off just battery power (fully charged), it shuts down unexpectedly. It doesn't say the battery is low, or near low, it just shuts down. It's really annoying, I have to use the charger wherever I go. I really need my laptop so I don't really want to take it to an Apple Store and have to wait a week to get it fixed, unless it's really necessary. My software is up to date. Any ideas on what my problem is/how to fix it?

MacBook Pro :: Randomly Shuts Down Now With Red Battery Indicator At 52%

Dec 4, 2014

For the past few days, my mid 2012 15" rMBP has been powering down or sleeping while in the middle of performing tasks, and more importantly when it's ABOVE 15% charge. Just today however, I now have a red battery indication at 52% and holding.

At the time, I had an external monitor plugged into the thunderbolt port closest to the ac adaptor port. I was running Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, but nothing else, and was not connected to the internet. I had turned wifi off. My problems continued until I plugged in. Once on a full charge, I unplugged and the same thing happened all over. Numerous times. So, I disconnected the external monitor, and thought that solved my problem. The next time I used the computer, I put the external monitor into the other TB port and did not have any issues, however I wasn't using the rMBP as extensively.

Today, again while performing tasks such as importing/exporting images with LR & PS, my laptop shut itself down. It runs warm, and fans are purring like crazy, but that's normal for the work I'm doing. Prior to the shut down, the battery read ~24%. I plugged in and woke it up. No external monitor is attached today. I am not running any other programs besides Chrome at the moment. I noticed a red battery light at 52% and it has not changed. Option clicking the indicator shows a "normal" condition.

OS 10.8.5
2.6 ghz intel i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
250 GB SSD (with ~25GB free)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

I have had a Speck hard shell case covering the laptop for a few weeks, but no issues until this week.I am a pro photographer who shoots tethered on location and carries my rMBP around on assignment. It has never been dropped, or damaged in any way.

MacBook Pro :: Shuts Down During Reboot After Flat Battery

Dec 3, 2014

I have a macbook pro (early 2011) And it went flat two nights ago whilst watching a movie. It was plugged in but I've been having charger issues. Anyway, now that it's fully charged, whenever i turn it on it gets to the apple logo with a progress bar (restoring the previous session maybe?), but then shuts down. I've tried a few times and its the same everytime.I suspect that it's trying to restore the last session (the progress bar - I cant recall whether that happens normally) and running into problems because of the flat battery episode. Can a session restore be cancelled?

I can still boot up the windows partition by pressing the option button during start up, its just the mac partition that wont boot. Also, I am still running Snow Leopard (what it came with, though with all updates).

I have had my macbook 13 inch since november 2007. It has been having a few problems lately with over heating but I was wondering if it was normal to have a battery that had gone through so many cycles and still have around 4-5 hours battery life (when I am just browsing the net and doing uni work i.e not watching movies or listening to music)

MacBook Air :: Sign Of Normal Battery Health?

I've had my refurb rev a for a week now. I absolutely love the form factor and it has really impressed me with what it can do. (My last computer was the 1.67 Powerbook G4 with 1 gig of ram.) However the battery life concerns me. When I got the air it had 4 cycles and 97% health. 10 days later i have 15 cycles and 93% health. I'm not concerned about the cycles, but should the health be declining this fast? If not what can I do to increase it? I've tried calibrating it and it really didn't change anything.
