MacBook Pro :: Freezes When Disc Inserted?

Dec 14, 2010

So I just did a fresh install of Windows XP, and before ANYTHING was installed every time I tried putting a disc in everything would lock up and I would have to restart Windows. So I tried downloading more Bootcamp drivers, and I also installed AVG. Still it does the same thing...Why would it do this? I'm so frustrated it's not even funny. It took me a month to get Windows to work in the first place...now I can't install any games...

OS X :: Disc Inserted Does Not Have Enough Free Space?

Aug 19, 2010

I am having difficulty burning a dmg file to a blank disc. I have a macbook pro with OS X 10.5.8. I am using disk utility to attempt this feat but it is being difficult. The blank disc is a 702 MB and the image is ~540 MB. When I attempt to burn the image onto the blank disc, it says the disc inserted does not have enough free space. 1) The disc is blank. 2) The image is less than the capacity of the disc. I tried another blank disc and it still reports the same issue. The blank discs work just fine in Windows and it reports it as such. Why is Mac OS reporting there is no free space when, in fact, there is?

I put in a cd that my computer was unable to read. I tried to eject it using disk utility but it failed. I read that another option was to restart the computer and hold down command, option, o, and f at the same time to open disk firmware to eject it. instead of actually working, my computer froze at the rstart screen, and i have no idea what to do - and i am unable to insert a disc.

MacBook :: Goes To Sleep When Battery Is Inserted?

Sep 3, 2010

basically my macbook works but only when the battery is out and it is plugged into an outlet. The laptop starts up fine with the battery in but will go into sleep mode about 20 seconds into startup. I'm currently using it without the battery in there and plugged into the outlet. When the battery is inserted, the mac immediately goes to sleep. and when removed it instantly turns back on. The battery is not defective because I have tried using a new battery.

MacBook Pro :: CD / DVD Inserted But No Reaction Besides Some Noise

Apr 29, 2012

I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro and this evening tried to insert a CD with pictures on it for the first time. Once inserting it, I could hear the computer try to read or do something, but then it did not do anything less. When inserting a DVD the same thing happened. Just no reaction besides some noise that it is trying to read it.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Run Without A Battery Pack Inserted

Apr 24, 2012

I bought a new Macbook Pro 15-in. late 2008 model battery on March 26th, 2012, but a month later I was never able to turn on my Mac again while using that battery.

-The battery is unable to charge and my Mac is unable to run without a battery pack inserted.

-The LED light on the charger keeps a constant green light, but the Mac will not turn on. Also, checking the battery, by pressing the silver button, it states that the battery pack only has a few "juice" in it left.

I'm now currently using my old Battery, and everything seems to be working just fine.Throughout the time of having the new battery, I always avoided overcharging it. Only 2 times where I fell asleep and it overcharged. I never continuously charged it, I only charged it when it was less than 10% of battery left. Although I wait to charge it only when it reaches below 10%, my mac becomes inactive for a few days. That's about all the information I can give from what I know. I'm unable to check the specs of the battery because the mac will not start. I'm really worried about what went wrong because it hasn't even been a month yet, and the battery died on me.

MacBook Pro :: Disk You Inserted Is Not Readable By This Computer

Aug 30, 2014

I have a Macbook Pro with an External 2TB My Book for Mac Hard drive. I used it earlier this week, ejected and disconnected it, went to sleep and then tried to use it the next day and the error message: "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." popped up. I have checked partitions, firmware, etc. and all are showing that it is there. It no longer shows up in Finder, though DiskUtility does show it, though it doesn't show any of the partitions, etc. it doesn't even have the name of what I called it.

- I am trying to get access to my files, I NEED them, (don't we all?!?) But seriously, these have hundreds of photos and videos of my college seminary on them and we need them for our 10- year anniversary.

MacBook Pro :: Error - The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer

Feb 3, 2012

I have been getting an error message each time I connect an external HD to my MBP; "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." which allows for 'Ignore' or 'Eject', I typically ignore and all appears to run fine, but still there is something obviously off a bit, incidentally the HD is a WD 640Gb that has my iTunes library?

MacBook Pro :: Error - The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer.

Apr 10, 2012

I recently had a friend fill my hard drive with movies and DVD's. Until this morning I had no problem with viewing the files on my computer and through my tv, other than the fact that I had to download VLC player on my computer as the files were all avi. Last night I noticed that two of the individual files either wouldn't load, or dropped out half way through. I fixed these files by repairing them individually, which solved the problem. This afternoon, my files were working perfectly, with no problems at all.

Tonight, I have gone to plug in my hard drive, and it won't recognise it at all, other than to tell me that the disk I inserted was not readable by the computer. This afternoon my Mac suddenly needed to restart, the grey screen came over and I had no option but to restart my computer by pressing and holding the power button. This has happened before, but hasn't seemed to affect anything?

I've tried restarting the computer and changing the hard drive into a different USB port but neither have made any difference. I've also tried to repair disk in Disk Utility, which hasn't worked either. Is there a way to fix this? Or at least get the files off the hard drive onto another hard drive? The hard drive won't show in Finder so I don't know how to back up the files as Disk Utility suggests I do. The hard drive is a HP SimpleSave, about 2 years old. Never had any problem with it before!

MacBook Pro :: Inserted Windows 7 Recovery Disk - Now Can't Access OS

May 23, 2012

I wanted to install Windows 7 to my Macbook Pro Lion using Bootcamp. I opened Bootcamp Assistant, it told me first to make a partition, then to insert a disk. I tought what if i insert recovery disk of Win7 that left from another computer.. So I inserted it and it told me to install Win7 and there was no exit button or anything like that. I switched computer off then on again and it again started Win. disk and it wont eject ether. Then with some miracle I ejected it, restarted and it gave me black screen with "no bootable device, please insert disk and press any button". I thought it wont leave me till I install it, so I inserted the disk again, and tryed to install it. During the installation it asks me where it should be installed, I chouse disk marked as bootcamp, also I had to format it because it was in fornat (something three letters) and it needed to be in format (something four letters). Then Windows installed, it is also not registered (only 3 days) and I can access Mac OS, when restart - it starts like Windows. There is no drivers for anithing, I cant connect to the internet even.

MacBook Air :: Ripping Leopard Install Disc Via Remote Disc

Jun 2, 2008

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

OS X :: Using Rosetta Stone Without A Cd Inserted?

Apr 8, 2010

I use Rosetta Stone v2 in my macbook laptop. This software requires that the language cd be inserted in the optical drive. Without the cd inserted if will not work (anti piracy?) . My macbook optical drive recently broke. It ejects everything that is inserted. Question: Is there to install the language files in the macbook (disk image?) so that Rosetta Stone thinks that the cd is inserted? I tried to copy the files into a flash drive but got a dialog box saying that some files could not by copied. I rarely use the optical drive and don't want to repair/replace it just for this program.

OS X :: CD Inserted But No Burning Device Indicated

Jan 10, 2011

Basically, I stick in a CD and it just stays there. Usually the computer does the rest, takes it in, you hear a whirring sound and stuff happens. I did it recently and nothing goes on - I have to take the CD out by essentially taking it by the edge that still sticks out.

I then went into the Apple Icon > About This Mac > More Info... > Disc Burning and found that no burning device indicated to be in existence. Clearly I should be able to have something there, right? Any drivers to download? Or should I just do a complete reboot of the system and go from there?

Mac Pro :: Inserted DVD's Get Ejected Without Mounting

Jan 19, 2009

I've got a few purchased video DVD's that when I insert them in the Mac Pro (Feb 2008 model), it spends a minute spinning the disc and then ejects it. Other discs work fine, and these problem discs work fine in my MacBook Pro. Could this be a faulty DVD drive or some form of copy protection? If it could be a faulty drive, will Apple send me a replacement to fit myself. I don't want the hassle of lugging my Mac Pro to an Apple Retail Shop or to send it away for repair (I'd rather spend 25 to buy a replacement drive than go through that hassle!).

MacBook Pro :: Error "The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer"

Jun 3, 2012

I am running a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 Recently, I had formatted by Western Digital 2TB harddrive into two partitions. One in Mac OS Extended Journaled) format, for backing up files via Time Machine. And the other in MS-DOS (FAT) format, for my normal harddrive use between Mac and Windows.  There were no problems, until I had ejected it and replugged it into my MacBook a few days later. It came up with this error: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". The harddrive doesn't show up on the Finder sidebar.

I tried opening it via Disk Utility, and gave me the following: Disk Description : WD Ext HDD 1021 Media Total Capacity : 2 TB (2,000,396,746,752 Bytes)Connection Bus : USBWrite Status : Read/WriteConnection Type : ExternalS.M.A.R.T. Status : Not SupportedUSB Serial Number : 5743415A4137383538373835 Partition Map Scheme : Unformatted In the Disk Utility:

It doesn't give me the option to Verify or Repair the disk. I tried erasing everything and reformatting it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. It stalls on "Unmounting disk" for a few minutes then proceeds with another error: "Disk Erase failed with the error: Unable to write the last block of device" - and sometimes the harddrive would just randomly eject during this process. It wouldn't let me partition the drive to any parts (not even back to one). It also wouldn't let me restore  I booted My MacBook into Windows 7 Home Premium and plugged in the harddrive. Again, Windows couldn't install the driver properly and thus, it didn't show up on "My Computer".

I'm assuming the hard-drive is corrupted. The hard-drive was working fine before all the formatting and partitioning - in a Windows format, I think. What might be the problem and what can I do to format and/or recover files from the corrupt hard-drive?
