I did not use my admin profile to upgrade my OS. I used my work profile to upgrade. When I go back to my admin profile, the OS download icon is still there in my launchpad and says paused. I would like to remove it, how do I do that?
View 1 RepliesI hadn't used my notebook for about a week and when I turned it on the other day the password login page was missing and I noticed that the Administrator Account is also missing. I have tried to delete the two remaining accounts to see what would happen, but either I can't remember my ID name or the system won't let me delete the accounts because the admin is missing.
I have tried my Snow Leopard CD but it won't let me reinstall or run diagnostic.

I bought this Macbook Pro (10.6.3) second hand and the user account was the name of the guy I bought it from. I'm tired of always seeing his name pop up when I have to access my Home folder and since the only way to change that is to create another admin profile thats what I'm going to do. Once mine is up and running I will delete the old account but first I have a question. Is there a way I can transfer over things like my Admin accounts and History, My Applemail email addresses and history and my Firefox settings, plugins etc., without having to duplicate them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Right now I operate everything under the admin user profile. It has been suggested that I should not be operating all of my daily work using the admin account, I should be using a standard user account, and the admin should remain for admin purposes only. Is it possible to switch the admin rights to a different user account, and then I keep the account I've been working in, have all software and preferences loaded in and make it a standard account? Or can I duplicate my admin account and use the duplicated user account for working in, and the original as the admin? Trying to keep from having to reload all software, passwords, copy work, etc. Since I don't understand this fully, not sure how to accomplish this.
View 8 Replies View RelatedA week after upgrading to SL, I accidentally logged into the guest account. After an unusual long waiting time, it took me back to the log in screen. Now I entered correctly my usual admin account only to find that everything had been reseted (just as a guest account is being reseted). I had lost my home folder, mail, bookmarks, dock and preferences, movies, itunes, iphoto. Fortunately I had a 5 day old TimeMachine backup, which helped me restore most of my lost stuff (except my movie collection, due to its large size - I had excluded it from TM backups, dammit, as well as some more recent iPhoto updates)
All in all it has taken me 5-6 hours restoring everything to its previous condition and trying to recover the deleted pics from the cams memory card.And I am still experiencing some issues with Mail.app, which says it is incompatible with 10.6.1 for some unknown reasons (will have to delete and reinstall). Next time I will wait for the first major patch before I update my Mac; let some other idiots play the experimentees for Apple, before they find and fix such fatal bugs.
I want to upgrade one of my accounts on Mac OS X to admin privileges but I am not seeing the option from my admin account. I couldn't find anything on Google, is it possible to do this without deleting the account and making a whole new one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've mitigated my profile from my older iMini to my new iMini. Everything worked out fine but I've noticed that [on the new imini] I have to input my password twice. Once I log on and input my password, my profile comes up and ask me again to input the password. I also have a unsecured startup deice/item (display) message displayed once the system comes up. Can I create a new profile and basically move all my documents over to the new established profile.

my system fonts are jacked up and fill in lines in Safari are not readable as the text is bigger than the fil in window. Also my laptop is running harder, hotter and the battery life is less than half of what it should be. I also get text overlap line to line sometimes in Safari.
I have restored my OS with a clean install and then recovered my profile from Time Machine, this is how I discovered its my profile. I added a clean profile the first time I rebuilt the mac and it ran much faster, with less hardware usage and longer battery life. Once I began to recover my profile the system was same as always slow with Safari issues mentionee earlier. I switched to the temp user account profile and the system is fast no Safari issues and less intensive activity going on, battery life good etc.
If I rebuild the mac again I am not able to recover the profile/account without issues, I would like to move just what I need to a new profile/account from Time Machine but it doesn't allow access to the original admin account for a selective restore. I would like to be much more granular about the restore and just move my documents and such. I don't want to recover the applications or application data at this point as I don't need it. I would rather re-install just the apps I need at this time. Other option would be to clean my account/profile so that it runs as it should or move everything I want (mostly documents) to a new profile for improved use.

I am not the admin of the computer, but the admin gave me admin rights for a temporary time being, so when I went to login to my user it asked the question if i wanted to make some change or whatever, well appaerantly I clicked the wrong choice and i had the "Remember this choice" box clicked. So is there anyway to go back to change this?I have tried restarting and completely shutting down the comp, and taking admin rights off and putting them back on.

I just used migration assistant to transfer to my new macbook pro. When i was doing this i needed to set up a new account/user as the one already on my new macbook pro is named the same as the one i was migrating from. With me?
What i want to do is delete the ORIGINAL account and be left with the new one, i migrated over, as the sole account (bar guest account and whatever else is usually there).
I can't seem to see any option for deleting the original account, the minus option is faded out when i highlight the Original account in "Accounts" in the System Pref. window.
When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

However, when I go into my display file and switch between profiles, nothing changes. Also, when I click on different profiles, I get that "bong" sound when I hit the mouse.
This might be a stupid/silly question, but I'm going to go ahead and ask anyways since it's been bugging me all day.Brand new MBP 13", used the stock 250GB HD for a couple days but decided to get a bigger 7200RPM drive. So I know what the screen looked like with the initial factory install of OS X. Fast forward to later this afternoon after I put in the new drive. I re-installed the OS using a retail copy of Leopard instead of the bundled discs for the 13", and after everything was booted up I noticed the color profile was really off. Colors weren't as vibrant as before, and everything just looked so washed out. I noticed it right away, but did all the system updates to 10.5.8 hoping it was just a glitch. After a restart the colors was still off, and I verified via System Profile to make sure the GPU is being recognized etc.
Convinced myself to re-install this time using the discs that came with the MBP.After everything is installed, the color tones are back; much more vibrant colors and no longer looked washed out.So I guess my question is, is the retail copy of Leopard not installing the correct color profiles? If I was to do a fresh install of SL tomorrow would something similar happen (guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow I guess).
My MacBook Pro is connected to the LED Cinema Display. Every time it wakes from sleep, or sometimes after screensaver, it forgets the colour profile. I have to go system preferences and click display and then it automatically uses the correct profile. This happens on both the LED display and the MacBook screen. I am running Snow Leopard, and I don't think I had this issue before upgrading. I googled and found one thread on a different forum about the exact same issue, but no answer. I just bought the new MBP with USB 3.0 and once the installation is fresh my USB 3.0 Lacie Minimus HDD connects at a speed of up to 5Gb/s (as in System Report) and disk speed shows transfer at around 73MB/s. However, once I migrate my data from iMac (mid 2011) the new MBP changes the link speed to up to 480 Mb/s and the disk speed drops to 23MB/s.

Has anyone seen my .profile file? It had lots of paths in it, aliases and vars, so stuff just works not now.
Seriously, it is a big problem and I didn't expect this from a 5 month old MBP. Has this happened to anyone? Is there a way to recover? I was used to this sort on Windows and that was completely understandable on that platform. Please tell me Mac is not same as PC only nicer box.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2011 Macbook Pro, the higher end model with Snow Leopard. Before that i had a late 2008 unibody aluminum Macbook with Leopard. As soon as i started using my 2011 MBP i noticed the screen tone was much warmer than on my 2008 Macbook. all the colors look over saturated. i tried to change the color profiles, and the calibration tool, but it still looks horrible. i will try to post a picture showing both screens side by side so you can see what has been bothering me for a whole year now!

I've been experiencing this issue off and on for about the past 10 months. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard tonight and the first time my Unibody MBP's screen saver came on and I got it back to the desktop the entire tint of the screen is intensely cooler. I have to go to Preferences>Display>Color and it automatically goes back to normal. The original "Color LCD" is highlighted, so it's not as if an entirely different profile got selected. If I click on Adobe RGB (1998) I get the exact same cool tint that I get when I unlock after the screen saver appears. Once again, it doesn't happen every time, but it does happen enough to sort of worry me.

So i opened my addressbook and reset my picture. A few minutes later, I noticed that my profile picture was reset to blank again so I changed it again and waited. Right before my eyes, the picture changed back to the silhouette again.
