MacBook Pro :: Plugged In But Battery Not Charging
Mar 20, 2010
I bought my macbook exactly two weeks ago (tomorrow) and I'm already starting to have problems. My battery is currently at 10% when not plugged in but then when I plug it in it won't charge. What is wrong with it?

I just noticed that my when I got my macbook plugged in, it's not charging. The icon is the one you got when it's plugged in (with the little fork-shaped thing in the middle), but instead of it saying 'charging' like when the battery isn't full, or 'charged', when it is, it just says 'Not Charging'. It's like it can see the magsafe connector inside, but the juice isn't coming through to the battery, even though the computer itself is powered by the charger since when I click on the power symbol I get 'Power source: Power adapter'.
Also, the magsafe connector itself isn't lit. It used to be green for a bit, but a much weaker green than normal, and before that it wasn't even lit--I've tried with three different wall outlets, one of which was outside my house where I usually use it (it was in a starbucks). Also, when I disconnected the magsafe to get a reading for the battery, it was only 1:35, even though the magsafe light was green (albeit a weak green). If it matters, I'm running 10.5.3. The macbook is still fairly new, bought mid-december, all updates current as I got it set to checking daily and install the minute I get the notice.

My magsafe 2 is plugged in but the light's not on. My battery status shows it plugged in, but says "battery is not charging."
I've reset the SMC several times and have been able to get it to work again, sometimes after going through the process several times. Sometimes the yellow light stays on even after I unplug the magsafe.

About a month ago, the battery on my Macbook (the black one) started to get worse and worse, to the point where it would work if plugged into the charger, but would automatically turn off if disconnected. After much research, I bought a replaceable battery (not through Apple, but not through a sketchy website either) in hopes it would bring my laptop to some life.Â
The new battery is now doing to same thing as before. Working if plugged in, automatically turning off if disconnected, and always shows that it is at 0% charge. Is there anything else I can do? I know I'm due for a new laptop, but I'd really like to keep this one around for just a few more months!Â

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.

My white MacBook is not charging when plugged in. And if I take out the cord, the computer dies. I noticed this right after I had made a flight on an airplane so I'm assuming something happened while on the flight, even though I had my computer with me the whole time, and inside the case. I tried using compressed air to try and blow out any debris that might have got into the little charger port, but no luck.

I have been using my 13" MBP with a monitor for the past few months now and I just noticed that sometimes I look up at the battery status and it is plugged in and it says in parentheses not charging. I press the button on the side of the MBP and it indicates it is at about 80%. I left the MBP at home all day plugged in and I was wondering if it is doing its own battery maintenance or what.

In the last few months I have been having trouble charging my Macbook (Early 2008). My computer is about 2 and a half years old. When I plug in my Macbook with the MagSafe power adapter, the little light that is supposed to show up green or red usually does not show up at all. Sometimes the light shows up green when it is not fully charged. Also, when my Macbook is plugged in, it does not usually start charging, though the charge on the battery will stay static. For example, I have been using my Macbook for the last 3 hours. Even though it's plugged in, the charge on the battery is still at 38%. I have tried shutting down my computer, popping out the battery, and then putting the battery back in. This allowed me to start charging my computer one time, but it obviously did not fix the problem. One time I held my Macbook and shook it up and down a couple of times, and when I plugged it in again, it started charging. Here is my hardware information:

I'm not sure if this is should be in hardware or software, so I apologize if this is in the wrong catagory.
I have a "5,1" Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook
2.0 Ghz
2 gb RAm
I just replaced the stock 160gb hard drive with a 500 gb Seagate. Everything is working perfectly except for one odd issue:
While plugged in, the MacBook says it is charging normally and appears to actually be doing so. However, when I unplug it, it shows the plug icon on the battery as it does at 100% charge and says "(Not Charging)". Power management wise it also behaves as if it is plugged in. So, as you can imagine that is quite annoying as it doesn't dim / sleep when it should if left sitting and I can't see my battery % when it is unplugged. I have looked EVERYWHERE on the net to no avail. The MacBook is no longer under warranty so no dice there. I have also checked my energy settings as well as reset the SMC.

I have a black macbook. My computer wouldn't turn on, so I plugged it in and turned it on. I noticed that it said "Not Charging". I figured it would go away and start charging. I closed the computer and came back an hour later, and the light on the charger was still green and not amber. Why will my computer only turn on when plugged directly in, and why won't my battery charge? Do I need to get a new charger or a new battery.

I accidentally left it on while I was doing some chores. When I came back it was dead (no battery). So I plugged in the charger and it immediately turned bright green when its supposed to be orange first, right? MacBook says (Not Charging) but power source: power adapter, green light is on, on the Magsafe. It's running by the power source because the battery is at 0%. I've had the charger plugged in for less than/about an hour and the 0% still hasn't changed. (Not Charging) is still there too. I bought my Macbook last August 2009, so it's not even a year old.

I have a macbook and I have been using it just fine with my nikon l120 camera up until now. I have a bunch of photos and videos from a trip that I need to upload, today. Now when I plug in my camera...it doesn't show up anywhere on my computer! It does however show that it is charging because it blinks when it is connected.

It all started this evening where I plugged my adapter into my macbook to charge. Instead of the usual bright orange light, it was a very dim orange and was barely visible and flickers occasionally. When plugged in, it stated "Not Charging". After awhile, I decided to try again but this time it was a dim green. Still not charging. I tried airing it for a bit, and tried again. This time it didn't light up at all. Just a while ago, I realized it was able to charge again (Bright Orange). However, I noticed it never seemed to turn green so I tested it out by removing my battery.
Even after removing, the lights below the battery were on and moving as if it was still charging. (Hope you understand what I mean). After a while it stopped though. So I tried draining my battery. It went till about 3hrs (at 100% its 4hrs) and I tried charging it again. Immediately after connecting it, the display went to show "Fully charged" with the bright green light. I disconnected it and it stayed at 100% for a while before changing to 90%. Sometimes it works perfectly while other times it just decides to go bonkers. I will try using a diff adapter tomorrow to see if the problem is in the adapter. (Probably is)

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

I have a Mac 10.6.8 running Snow Leopard. My battery won't charge: all I get is "Not Charging" in the menu bar battery status; the power adapter doesn't light up either. It's not a problem with the battery—when I put my battery in my friend's MacBook, it worked just fine. His battery, however, wouldn't charge either when it was in my computer. I have tried resetting the SMC several times, following the instructions exactly. I've reset the PRAM, run disk repair, and fixed disk permissions. I don't have the money to take it to a repairman—even if I did, I need my computer every day for work. Â

I have had my 13 in macbook pro for about three months and suddenly it does not charge when it is plugged in. In the last week this has started to happen but upon fussing with the connection like unplugging and replugging in the magnet charger it would start for a while and stop randomly. Now I can not get the computer to charge at all no matter how much I fuss. Do I need a new adapter or is there some other problem?
