View 7 RepliesMy mums macbook has gone crazy! There is no sound coming from the macbook, and when I went to check if the volume was up the volume box popped up as usual but with a symbol, similar to a no entry sign. Circle with a cross through it. Then I saw a bright red light from within the audio jack itself. When I plugged in ear phones it works fine but the built in speakers are not working.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI was just listening to some music through some speakers on my old 1.8ghz cd macbook and then I unplugged the cable from the headphone jack and noticed that there was a red glowing light coming from the headphone jack. Now my sound is messed up, sound works properly only when something is plugged into the headphone jack. Nothing will play through the internal speakers when I try to adjust the volume with nothing plugged in I get this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a white 13" MacBook. I'm totally Mac illiterate. I bought the Mac because I just about to dig my eyes out in frustration dealing with MS Vista. I like the MacBook.....but about a year and a half ago, the right channel of my 3.1 speaker setup cut out. It worked fine for the 1/1.5 years of ownership.
Internal speakers? Work just fine. Headphones? Perfect stereo.
External speakers with subwoofer? Right channel is dead.
I've tried max laptop volume and creeping volume on the actual speaker up. I've tried max external speaker volume and creeping the Mac volume up. I downloaded a ToneTester program. Internal speakers and headphones just fine. 3.1 externals? Right channel dead. I don't have the red-light jack issue. My Sound Output toggles between Headphones and Internal Speakers output perfectly. About 7 months ago while putzing with all the settings, I got it all back out-of-the-blue. Perfect stereo with subwoofer. I had it for about 2 months and then poof - right channel faded again.
ok the other day i opened my mac book and i couldnt listen to my music through my speaks and i tried to turn up the music cuz maybe it was on mute but i got a pic like this (If u cant see it but its the speaker up full volume and the not allowed symbol the circle w/ the line through it) and then i discovered that there is a red light coming out from speaker jack and i could only use my sound through headphones or a jack through other speakers (like a sound system) but no only that i can only hear through the right side of the headphones unless i hold the cord a certain way
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe sound doesn't work! I turned on my laptop and there is no sound. When I press the up and down volume buttons, it's normal, but there is no noise. Also, there ISN'T a red light in my headphone jack.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe speaker on the top of my screen is muted and I cannot get any sound out of the internal speakers. When I try to raise or lower the volume there is a circle with a line through it underneadth the speaker level window that pops up and everything seems frozen. I've checked online to find a solution and did see a red light in the headphone jack. So I plugged back in headphones and a USB and pulled out the headphones, the red light went off but I still see no option for internal speakers in my Sound preferences. What do I do? I'm trying to avoid a trip to the apple store...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect through iTunes with my Airport Express. No matter how I configure (and the green light is on) no sound comes from the speakers from iTunes even though the song is playing. I can, however, connect through my Airfoil app which leads me to think that the problem is in the Itunes app itself.

When I am in a quiet room, I notice a light humming coming from my macbook pro and also a light vibration on the right side. Is this just the hd spinning or something to be concerned about? it is 2 weeks old.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem since Friday with my Mac Pro (March 2009) and haven't been able to solve it.
On Friday my speakers suddenly stopped working. After first having confirmed that the speakers were working with another source, I tried headphones both in frontal headphone slot and with the analog line out in the back, both without success. There's a red light in the optical audio out, indicating that it's on for some reason, although I have selected different audio out source. The internal speaker works just fine, only the normal audio out doesn't give me anything.
I found a thread in the MBP section similar to this problem, but solutions for MBP didn't work.
This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen surfing the net (like right now) or just letting it idle, my hard drive makes a slight "clunk" sound like the HD arm is hitting the edge of the case (or maybe starting up and shutting down?). There seems to be no loss of performance. I did a disk verify and everything is OK. Should I be concerned?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a person that sent along this video and it concerns me that a hard drive would make such a noise. It's unlike anything I've heard in a drive. He claims the original owner installed a new Seagate 7200rpm in the book, and that it mostly happens when loading a web-page on Safari.
Every time I look up "hard drive click" I get the SMS triggered "tink" but this notebook is not in motion and instead makes a "ca-chink".
For some odd reason, I have been experiencing some creaking when I move the display of my Unibody 15.5" Macbook Pro. At all. It just is very annoying, as it has a distinct plastiky sound to it, and it was not there to begin with. I don't know if this matters, but I have a Speck clear case that I used, but then I took it off because it seemed to be twisting the display a bit. Is this creaking a known issue with the Unibodies, or is it just because of the Speck case? I have never dropped my computer, and it has never been mistreated. It just leads its life on my desk or in my laptop bag. Any ideas?

For reasons unknown the internal sound option has disappeared from my MBA. The little speaker icon on the menu bar is grayed out and nothing comes from the jack. Internal speakers don't even show up as an option under sound output. I do use an Airport Express for external speakers but it's been playing happily with the internal speakers for months.

View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)
But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?
I recently noticed something rather peculiar about my MacBook. When I put my computer to sleep, the sleep light never does what it used to. As far as I remember, the light is supposed to very bright, then go dim, and then go back to being bright correct? Well, since I installed the latest OS X update, I've noticed that my sleep light never gets dimmer. It just stays on full brightness all the time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro randomly shut off (I don't think it was low on battery, but I can't be 100% sure.) Now when I plug in the charger, the light on the charger is green for about 6 seconds, then goes to red and stays red. I cannot turn on the computer, and there is no sign that it is even charging.

is it because sometimes i use a lamp really close to the laptop vs other times using a far away light source? does the brightness change automatically?

This has been bugging me and it'll be another week or two until I can get my hands on one. So, what's the little light (if it is even a light) on the right hand side of the front of the unit?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHello, I tried searching the forums for my problem, but have not found it. I have a week old 13 Macbook pro 2.53. The problem I am having is when I set the keyboard backlight to "Never" turn off it still does. I even set it to 5 minutes and it still shuts off at like 4. I have tried disabling it etc...and it still turns off when set to "Never".
View 24 Replies View RelatedYesterday my keyboard would light up, but today when I hit the F5/F6 keys to light up the keys, It won't light them, and it will show the icon with a no sign.
How to fix this?
I'm using a 13" 2010 MBP
The on light at the front of the base (right edge) went out. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch. The apple on the cover side of the monitor still comes on. Oddly enough, this happened right after I installed a trial of Photoshop version 13.0.0 Beta. Should I just have the light replaced or could this be a signal of other problems? I don't have a lot of new stuff installed since I'm coming from a pre intel mac desktop.
