I recentlyªposted a question describing a problem I was having when viewing files in column view in the finder: when I click on a file, which would usually cause a pane to the right to open showing a preview of the item and information on the file, the finder hangs and I see an spinning disc. Just now I tried using the finder's Get

I bought a MacBook Pro about a year ago now. It's running Leopard and for the first few months everything was great. After a few months my hard drive crashed. Thankfully they were able to save my files but after that I gave in and bought a Time Capsule. I sat there and let it do the initial back up which took well over 16 hours to complete. I had to leave the house while it was doing that. I came back and checked on it and it acted like it was done.
When I open up the Time Machine settings in System Preferences it makes it seem as if the data was put there as it reads that 90 gb of the memory in the time capsule has been used which is about what I have on my hard drive. Now, it doesn't say when the last backup or oldest back up was which kind of concerns me. Now that the initial back up is done, any time it starts to do another backup, if I'm running ANYTHING, it freezes and the only way I can get it to stop is to force the computer off with the power button which I don't like doing. What's going on here? Why is this program making everything freeze up on me? I have turned it off for now because I don't want to hard boot my computer again. What do I need to do so I can make sure all of my files get backed up but I don't have to deal with Time Machine making my compute freeze all the time?

I have a MacBook Air 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running OS X 10.6.8 with all software up todate today under this OS. I use Firefox 13.0.1 as a Browser. I experience many Kernel Panic's and in some cases, the Finder, as noted in in the Force Quit pop-up quits completely. I note this when using Firefox as a Firefox "lock-up" and most times a colored spinning wheel associated with Firefox. Coincidentally, Time Machine is running during many of these occurrences. Some times, the Finder, as well as all (not many) app's running at that time also display on Force Quit as being "lock-up" displayed in red letter in Force Quite and I must use the "shut off" button to restart.
Last week, I did a complete reinstall of the most current OS from an external disk following a complete examination of the system using the latest TechTools Pro software and then conducted a "rebuild" of the file structure and removal of all fragmentation and approved a new directory installation by TechTools Pro. I use VirusBarrier, with the latest updates, (Version 10.1.16), and have continuing scans for all that is available in that application.Â
Time Machine backups are made over  What, if anything, might I do to restore this Mac to normal functioning. I have other Mac Computers (portable and desktops) running the same OS version and and software.

I'm running OS X 10.9.4 on a MacBook Air (2 GB memory, 64 GB SSD storage).Â
I'm using an AirPort Time Capsule (with Time Machine) as my router and backup. I have an additional hard drive connected to the USB port on my AirPort Time Capsule.Â
For over a year the entire configuration has worked well:Â Backups are done, and I can access both the AirPort Time Capsule internal hard drive and the external hard drive from my MacBook Air, and from any other device on the network.Â
For the past few weeks, Finder (on my MacBook Air) sometimes cannot see either drive (internal or external) on the AirPort Time Capsule. Backups are still okay, and PCs are still able to access and use both drives on the AirPort Time Capsule. Also, software on my MacBook Air CAN see and use the drives. For example, if I have a photo on one of those drives that I want to post on Facebook, the "finder" window that appears when I click "Upload Photos/Video" (on Facebook) sees the drives, and can upload the photo from the drives. The ONLY time I cannot see the drives is when I try to access them with Finder. (See photos.)Â
At first, Finder occasionally could not see the drives, or sometimes it took a minute or two to see the drives. Now, Finder generally cannot see the drives, no matter how long I wait. My PCs, and ALL SOFTWARE on the MacBook Air CAN ALWAYS see the drives. Also, Finder can ALWAYS see ALL THE OTHER shared drives on the network (on the PCs, for example), even when it cannot see the drives on the AirPort Time Capsule.Â

I can't possible delete the thousands of junk files that showed up in Finder once I downloaded Maverick. I can't delete more than one at a time now. Why won't the highlighting stay in place on more than one file that I want to delete?

Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.

My time capsule shows up in finder under shared devices but when I click on it and it tries to connect it says 'connection failed' this is annoying. As I would like to access the external hard drive that I have connected to it. I am having no problems at all doing scheduled backups to the TC via time machine.

I'm using a Mac Mini to target-disk my Macbook in order to transfer my User folder and some of my Applications. When I browse the Macbook's Applications folder via my Mac Mini, Finder beachballs every time I scroll down to a certain point (about a quarter of the way down), and I have to Relaunch. If I jump to the end of the scroll bar, it beachballs. I've tried column view, list view, and icon view, but whenever it tries to display folder content past that point, it beachballs.

I had been using Time Machine on an external drive for a few years and then when I stopped using that drive for backups and started putting files on it, I made the mistake of trying to manually delete all of the backups. Now, the entire backup is stuck in my trash folder and finder doesn't seem to be able to delete it regularly.

how you change these icons as the usual method of just copying and pasting the image in does not work. Would also like to not have to download an app to be able to do this if possible.Â

I recent fount necessary to do a complete install and restore. As I was having trouble with system performance, I chose to restore Applications from Time Machine and set the system parameters manually. In the process, I wound up with some very large (50 Gbytes) on my Desktop. I neglected to turn off time Machine backup while doing the restoration and wound up with several big(!) files in the back ups taken during the restoration. There is nothing useful on the backups taken during the restoration and they have really filled up my backup disk. Looking at the structure of the backup disk, it seems you could just delete the backups after I started to restore things. Are there other considerations? Are there hidden tables laying around that might become unsynchronized?

Good evening, all. I searched the forum but didn't see anything related to what I'm asking. Does anyone have any problems playing back DVDs? I have to remember to take DVD player out of full-screen playback because it will sometimes freeze and I have to power down. In addition, sometimes while I'm viewing a DVD de-interlaced, the screen is garbled. Switching the de-interlacing off gives me the picture back. I took a picture of what it looked like the one time it locked up on me.

The system has been freezing randomly for up to 20 - 35 seconds at a time, the same as many other people on here. i have used superduper to clone my disk to a usb hd. I have not had 1 single freeze so far running of the usb drive. I boot back to the internal drive and with in minutes i get a freeze. This is just what i have found, would be good if anyone else with the freeze issue could try the same.
My hdd is

I received an automatic update for quicktime yesterday. After the install, I noticed that Finder would flash and interrupt any application. It seems like I clicked off on the desktop when I am working. I then have to click on the application screen to continue working. This happens about every 2-3 minute intervals. When I restart the computer, Suitecase always opens up. Any ideas?? I have a G5 with 10.4.

I have been backing up for years using Time Machine (TM) which uses a hard drive connected to my Time Capsule on my network. I use an external drive connected to the Time capsule.Every night, my MBP is scheduled to backup which it has done for years. The last successful backup was 4 days ago. It stopped working and when I tried to click on TM starting manually, it hangs up and freezes Finder. I try to relaunch Finder and it freezes the computer by taking all icons off my desktop. I can use mail and other programs but FINDER will not work. I have used disk utilities to check the drive AND repair permissions.
The only way I can shut down is by holding the on/off button and then restarting. The computer starts up fine and works UNTILL I try to back up to TM again. The whole thing happens again. My O/S is regulary updated and I checked that too.
THere must be something corrupted or screwed up with the TM / Finder links.

When I close a finder window, the finder menu disappears and then reappears along with the finder window. It looks like finder is crashing and restarting. This started happening after I downloaded a pdf and put it in a folder. Maybe there is a bug in the way finder is rendering the image of the pdf file at the top of the finder window?Â
How can I restore normal behavior of finder?

Whenever I put in a commercial audio cd in, it mounts as "Audio CD". It s been a while since I've put an audio cd in, but I thought it gave the artist title. Also, iTunes is supposed to open...well instead of opening, it just bounces on my dock.
When iTunes IS open and an audio cd is put in, iTunes will freeze up with the spinning wheel of death. I cannot force quit iTunes until I have ejected the CD, and cannot eject the CD unless iTunes is closed. It a very weird problem. The warranty on my Mac has expired.

When I started my computer this evening, it froze immediately after starting up. (I have had three start up items for over a year: Dashboard, iTunes, and Chrome). Then after I unplugged it and removed the battery to restart it (nothing else would work), it was extremely slow to restart. I had to then Option-Command-Escape out of each progrma that starts up, and when I started Chrome again, it was very slow. After some time, it started to pick up speed again, like starting a car engine on a cold winter morning. Â

Several times in the last few days the startup page has frozen. Following the instructions in the little instruction book I power down by holding the power button, wait a few seconds, then power back up while holding down the option key, and with all peripherals disconnected. I get a screen with two icons, "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery HD". The instructions say, "click the internal flash drive icon." Assuming that means the "Macintosh HD" icon, I click on that. That brings up a new startup page. Usually that is not frozen and I can sign in. Occasionally this second startup page is frozen too, so I repeat the power+option powerup. Whenever I have to resort to the second try I get an unfrozen startup page.Â
Once signed in I go to System Preferences and click on Startup Disk. Always after a frozen startup page I find this preference unlocked and the "Macintosh HD OS X 10.7.3" highlighted. I click on the icon, lock the preference again, and all works fine for the next one or two startups, then I get the frozen startup page again. One time on the power+option powerup I clicked on the "Recovery HD" icon rather that the "Macintosh HD" icon. All I got then was the blank Apple logo page with the revolving gear going on interminably. After several minutes I gave up on seeing what that would produce.Â
