How can I assign the square root function (button) in Apple's Calculator application to the F13 button?
Similarly, how to assign other buttons within applications to Function keys. (as opposed to assigning menu items to Function keys by using Keyboard application preferences)

I got a Logitech G5 Refresh mouse, and have had it for allmost 2 years now. I'm a windows man that has just turned in to OS X about 14 days ago, s� still have a very lot to learn..
But the thing is, that i was used to - in Windows, that i could browse forward and backwards with the 2 buttons placed close to my thumb on the mouse, instead of the browser/applications forward and backwards buttons..
Is there a way to do so in OS X? I've looked in Preferences, but i did'nt really find anything useful..
I have a PowerPC G5, OSX 10.4.11 with a wired numeric keyboard. I enter a lot of numbers. How can I assign one of the function keys on the right side of the keyboard, above the number pad, F16, F17, F18, or F19 to be a "TAB" key so I can move around fields when entering numeric data?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFollowing on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it! Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it! Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using.
I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.

I starting having problems with my MacBook this morning. After being asleep I started using it again and I wasn't getting a responce from mouse or trackpad clicks. The cursor will still move but I can't select anything. I did a hard restart once and it went back to normal. After it happened again I did another hard restart and it wouldn't boot up again. I did two hard shut downs/restarts and it finally booted up again. Although it's still not responding.

Sometimes (very rarely, but it does occur) I need to press the F1 button or F8 or another "f" button. However, as we all know, apple has placed really nice (I really like them) shortcuts for widgets, expose, volume, play/pause etc. So when I press that button (say F8) the music starts playing. So how do I "press it right". Do I need to press another button with it. Or is it preferences.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a friend that has a Blackbook CD 2ghz. Anyways, he told me that after he applied some updates (10.4.11) his macbook trackpad stop registering clicks. At the beginning we thought it was the click button, but after we connected a mouse to his MB, we figured out it may be a software problem because his mac is not even registering left clicks, only right clicks with a mouse. I already tried smc reset and pram reset with no avail. Also we tried to make a new account but same problem happens. I think the only way to fix this problem is to do an archive and install, but he does not have his recuperation cd's.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook was working fine until in the last few days it stopped recognising some clicks with the mouse, and sometimes the clicks got stuck so that whenever I tried to move the cursor, it recognised as if I was dragging things when I was no longer clicking. This gradually got worse until it completely stopped working..The mousepad works fine at moving the cursor but I can't click on anything. I've tried to use an external mouse and the same problem occurs.I've tried all the restarting, removing battery, starting on safemode, etc. tricks, and nothing seems to work.

So the wireless keyboard has the EXACT same layout as my MacBook keyboard, so I would assume it should function the same. You know how along the top there are lots of function buttons? Well none of those work like they should. Clicking any of the buttons from esc (very left) to the play/pause button doesn't do anything. From there, the forward button (>>) does what F3 should, the volume off button does something I'm not quite sure what it is the volume down button pushes everything off to the side of the screen (not sure what it's called ) and volume up opens my dashboard. So is this something completely wrong with my keyboard, or is it something weird that they all do that I don't know of?

The Logitech essentially has one button more (it has two side buttons, each separately programmable) and I use it for executing Cmd+H on the active app -- and I've grown pretty addicted to it. Hiding an app with a mouse is a lovely feat... And the second one is for Expose.
I have two extra buttons on my logitech mouse: a button on the side and the scroll wheel button. I set up the logitech control center and set commands for those buttons, but nothing happens when i press them. Anyone know how to fix this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I was working with my iMac without any problem, suddenly the mouse pointer start behaving very odd, when I tried to click an icon, menu or whatever the mouse start moving not allowing me do the work, I changed the wireless mouse suspecting was a hardware problem but when I connected the USB mouse I got the same problem, then I shutdown the iMac but after starting I got the same problem. I suspect is a trojan virus but I heard that Leopard operating system is very robust and virus is not currently a problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so ive had this problem for a few months now and it has led me to the point where my mac was in storage and i havent touched it in a month or two. What happens is no matter what i am doing my mouse will move around the screen clicking randomly and basically doing whatever it wants. i have looked into the problem and other people have similiar issues but not the same. i can be across the room from my mac with the screen on, and the mouse will still move around and click and open countless folders even though no one at all is even near the computer. today when i took the mac out to see if there was a software update available (which there was) the mouse was not moving around or jumping at all througout the entire update. After the update it is now yet again jumpin around and clicking wherever it wants. Also its not just once in a while it is 24/7 it has made my mac unable to be used because you cant really control the mouse for more than a second at a time. my whole screen is now full of untitled folders..

- MX Revolution (don't like the battery situation)
- G5 and MX-518 (too few buttons)
Any other recommendations?
I'm planning a keyboardless Quake Wars setup, and what I have in mind requires 13 mouse "buttons"--but I do include scroll directions in that total. The Revolution has exactly 13 functions. I'd prefer corded, but the G5 has only 9 (+/- can't be configured) functions and the MX-518* has only 10 of that. (Saitek Cyborg has 11 or 12 buttons, since I do count the 4-way hat, but Mac support is questionable.)
Driver support doesn't worry me--I'll use ControllerMate, and will check with their forums before I buy.
Accuracy is important, but most high-end mice seem to have good tracking anyway.
*Some sites say the Logitech MX 518 has horizontal scroll. But in pictures it has no arrows next to the wheel, so I'm suspicious. Can the 518's wheel be tilted left/right?
When I plug in the apple mouse and go to mouse settings it lets me configure not only the two clickers, but all the extra buttons on my mighty mouse. However, I hate the mighty mouse scroller, so I want to switch to a new mouse. However, when I plug in the new mouse it only lets me right click, left click and scroll. My other mouse has 2 extra buttons I want to configure to open quicksilver and Expose all windows (like I had setup with my apple mouse). Can I do this with a non-apple mouse?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I just installed USB Overdrive on my 10.6.1 iMac 2.66, and one of the buttons was conflicting; I thought it might be an issue with Apple's official mouse & keyboard prefs. So I went in, and I accidentally switched the right click/left click, and now I cannot click on ANYTHING because both buttons are right-click. I tried restarting in the hopes that USB Overdrive would override the system prefs, but no dice. Is there any way I can manipulate system prefs without the use of clicking?
I also tried hooking up another mouse to no avail, and sticky keys are off.
I accidentally set BOTH of my mouse buttons to secondary and I can't primary click to change the settings back! What can I do?

Each time I start my iMac my razer naga doesn't track, all the mouse buttons work but it just doesn't track, its really weird because I have been using this mouse for a month now and never got this problem until I think I started to put my IMac to sleep.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI received a wireless Mighty Mouse for Christmas, and just today I decided to try customizing the buttons. I open up Mouse Preferences, and when I try to change the function of any button, it doesn't work. I can click the drop down menu to change button 3 or button 4 to Spaces, or one of the expose functions, but when I use the buttons, they still do (what I assume are) the default functions -- button 4 allows me to go back in my browser, and button 3 (the ball) allows me to move the mouse to scroll the page. The only button I can change the function of is the default secondary button -- I can make this button do anything I want, but not the others, including the primary button.

it is NOT an apple mighty, it's a microsoft X5 gaming mouse.
just now my magic mouse went wild. When I switch it on and it automatically connects to my macbook air it acts as though the left button is clicked all the time. That means whenever I move my mouse it looks like that: [URL]
(I DID look and the mouse button is not jammed or anything). However interestingly the same happens when I use my touchpad. Whenever the mouse is connected and I try clicking on my touchpad it does not work. Really as though the left button was clicked. When I disconnect the mouse all is fine again. I tried restarting the laptop and putting out the batteries of the mouse. Nothing worked so far.
For a while now I've had a recurring problem that I can't figure out. The buttons on my mouse will suddenly stop working; I can move the cursor around the screen, but the mouse buttons (all of them, plus the scrollball) do nothing.
It's not a problem with the mouse (so it might not belong in this forum), because I've tried other mice and had the same behaviour. I don't know if there's a pattern, but I think I've only had the problem since I've started running the new Football Manager 2011 game.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to assign actions to mighty mouse buttons other than the default ones listed in system preferences.
In other words, I want my web browser to go 'back' when I squeeze the side buttons of my mighty mouse.
I have spaces assigned to my mouse buttons and one day it stopped working. I assumed my mouse button went bad until I tried another mouse. The button is assigned correctly spaces just doesn't respond to it...sometimes. Sometimes it works find. Has anyone else had this? I'm trying to narrow down if its my system or not.
