When I turned on my MacBook and tried to listen to some music, the volume didn't come on. I've tried everything, but the sound just wont work. The volume-icon in the top right corner is grey (not black as it should have been) and when I use the button to turn the volume up, it's a new icon that pops up on the screen...

View 13 Replies View Relatedi got this MBP about a week ago, and its awesome. except 2 days into having it i noticed that sometimes i will be on the internet, listening to music, and all the sudden the webpage will kind of freeze, than the little color wheel will pop up on the cursor and i cant do anything for about 30 seconds, and the music will stop playing too and than after 30 seconds everything resumes and works fine... this happens about 4 - 5 times aday.. anything i can do ? or should i take it to the apple store? We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.
I just got my motherboard on my MBP because I had the black screen problem due to the graphics card. Now I have problems w/ my sound.
It keeps skipping after once in awhile for some reason. I installed the latest Realtek sound drivers. This happened with the original driver too.
It plays music fine but every minute, it skips like a bad CD player.
What's going on here?

I have a MBP, itunes 10.1.1, and a western digital passport essential.
I loaded pictures and my old itunes library off a HP pavilion desktop.
On my Mac, when I try and open my external hard drive off the desktop and click my itunes library file I stored from my old HP it simply wont open. I right click it and click open with itunes and the file icon fades off my screen very quickly like its trying to import it but wont. I have tried dragging it and holding option when opening itunes, which actually does display the playlist but only with explanation points because the files cannot be found.
I just want to be able to plug my external in and listen to my playlist I have stored on the western digital, on my mac book without erasing my current itunes playlist on my MBP.
I have a MacBook, I would like to record just the audio of some YouTube videos. Is there any program that allows you to do that?

When I connect my external audio interface (apogee ensemble) to my mac pro, the mac begins to whistle...
As soon as I turn off my interface again, the whistle is away immediately . The sound is definitively coming from my mac pro and I couldn't locate the problem to a fan. I think it's maybe the firewire controller chip? When I connect my external lacie HD I have no problems at all. I have tried it on both ports on the back side with no success.
The whistle is not constantly on the same noise level. Sometimes it's away for a few seconds, it's high pitched and really annoying though. It does not matter if I playback audio or not. Nothing worked though. I experienced the whistle in the past few months sometimes but it was mostly just for a few minutes or so. But in the past few days it was constantly and it never really stopped. This drives me crazy when I have no audio playing and my room is silent !!
I have no other firewire cable (400 to 800) around to test it. Could this be the culprit also?
first time i have ever come across. I have a Intel 2 MacBook Pro. There is no sound coming from the speakers even though it is not muted and the vol is turned to the max. There is sound coming if i plug headphones in the jack. Just noticed that there is a red light coming from where the headphone jack is...anyone have any idea how i can get my speakers to work again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, let me give you a rundown on everything I have done: I have reset SMC. I have reset PRAM. I have disabled Java in all browsers, and I have deleted Java. I have erased disk completely, taken it to the Apple store and have OS reinstalled. I have repaired the disk. I have repaired disk permissions, and I discovered Java had a value of 80, should be 0. (This caused me to disable most Java programs.) I have verified the disk and disk permissions.
After the restore, I have only reinstalled a few programs: (Upon reaching this problem again, I deleted some programs):
Opera Browser - Deleted, did not allow me to disable Java.
Caffeine - Deleted, not well known.
StarCraft II - By Blizzard Entertainment, too uptight to create this kind of problem.

White macbook pro that was purchased in December of 2010.I was listening to music on ITunes last night, the music stopped and the computer was making some weird noise and froze up. I held the power button to shut it down. Let it sit for a couple minutes and then powered it back on. When it powered it on, it still made the clicking noise, and displayed a blank screen that had a flashing folder with a "?" in it. That's all it did. The noise was coming from the left side of the laptop.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really hope somebody can help me with this. I've had an iMac for several months now. Before that I had a PC. Very soon after I bought it I started to get pounding rock music in the background whenever I tried to listen to anything. It's loud enough to overwhelm whatever it is I'm trying to hear. It isn't going all the time, but something seems to start it, and then it goes for days. I must have downloaded it accidentally when I was blundering around in the first month or os. If it was a PC I'd be able to find it, but Mac is still a mystery to me. I seem to remember that I downloaded something to do with a waterfall, "Dakota Falls" perhaps. The video was a waterfall which sat on the desktop. It looked quite pretty, but when I got rid of it the music wouldn't go away. So right now i can't listen t anything on my new iMac, and obviously I can't watch movie's or anything. It's really frustrating. The OS is Leopard. Also can anyone suggest a decent book on Mac that isn't too superficial. I'm not totally certain of the connection between the waterfall video and the pounding music, but they seemed to occur.

Looking at the System Pref. - Sound menu - in-put - Line in Built-in Audio, I can see activity on the input levels when I press the Kawai piano keyboard but no sound is heard. I have Final Cut Express 4 running on an iMac with Leopard 10.3.5. The problem I have is I cannot hear a music track & the sound track on the film clip at the same time when I run the clip. I only hear the clip sound track until it finishes then the music track plays. If I drag the scrubber bar along the time line I can hear both the music & the Clip sound track together. This only happens when I logon to the Mac as an Administrator. (I have never managed to hear both sound tracks together whilst logged on as Administrator.)
In desperation I created a user account on my iMac. If I logon as a user Final Cut Express 4 works ok ? I hear both sound tracks together when I play the clip. Any ideas how I can make the Administrator account work as the User account does? As the iMac is only used by myself I don?t need any user accounts.
I want to be able to stream my itunes library outside my network. Like if I am at work or wherever, I can control my itunes library and listen to it over the internet. this wouldnt be public and only I could access it. Is this possible?
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust cracked my 17" mbp screen. listening to itunes via earbuds and phone rang. got up to answer and laid earbuds down (1 on table, 1 on keyboard). as i went to get the phone, i kicked the magsafe and it spun the mbp and caused the screen to jet closed....right on the earbud, cracking it.should i pay the $700 to replace the screen on my 2+ yr old mbp or just get one of the new ones?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI can only use 1 headphone at work, so I'd like to have both the left and right channels come out that 1 earbud, which would essentially be a mono signal instead of stereo.
Is there a way to do this? There's no balance tool in iTunes, and in OSX sound prefs, I can pan the sound all the way to one side, but that doesn't actually combine the channels, it just only plays that one side.
Didn't there used to be a "radio" option on iTunes so I could listen to old time radio, etc? How long has this been gone?

The other day I was listening to a iTunes radio station, and enjoyed it. Like a doofus, I didn't put that stream in a playlist and now I'm left to stare at 395 total streams in that category without a clue as to which one it was. Is there any way to look and see what I was listening to the other day to find the specific stream?
In my search on the internet, I found one thread that referenced listening history back in version 3 and another thread by a person with my same problem that was unanswered.
Keep track of hours of music listened to in say a continuous 2 week span. This can be synced through your ipod and within itunes itself. And give ratings related to how much hours of music you have listened to in the those 2 weeks. So if you've listened to I dunno 12 hours of music within that span, it'll keep track and give you a rating like: 'casual listener' or if you have totaled up 40 hours of music listening you're an 'avid music fan'. I dunno what to call them but I like knowing how much music I've really listened to recently and this would be cool.
Or to take it even further, see what genre (granted you have this organized in iTunes) that you're listening to most and this can go even deeper.
iTunes skips songs when I try to listen to a shared library from my Mac Pro, on my MacBook Pro.
This always happens when trying to "fast-forward" through a song (it'll skip to the next song).
I'm assuming that this is some kind of networking issue, because if I let the song play long enough, for what I perceive as enough time to transfer the song entirely from one computer to the other, it won't skip to the next song when fast-forwarding.
The two computers are in adjacent rooms, connected wirelessly via an AEBS on 802.11N (g compatibility mode).
Is there anyway to change the listening port for the default website without messing up the server app?? I have a program that need to run on port 80 for ease of use, however lion listens on all ports because of the default website. Â

Trying to figure out if something is up with mine and a buddies machine specifically or they are all buggered....
Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
