I have a home network running 3 PC's(with XP) and 2 Macs (with Tiger OS X 10.4.8). Mysteriously one of my Macs(MacMini) refuses to show a Network icon in the Finder sidebar? I have used the Go > Network menu to try to get a Network icon, but this does work. Yesterday I did a scheduled Mac OS system update, and it seems that since then I have not been able to see/get a Network icon in my Finder.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? PS - I am able to use the old 'GO > Connect to Computer' method, then type in the smb://myOfficePc, and access shared files on other PCs on the network. So networking is configured properly on this MacMini.
I moved into a new house (with 5 house mates) and am having massively frustrating network issues. When I try to connect to the network, i get a "connection timeout" error. If i try many times (like 30), eventually I get on but the connection gets dropped after a few minutes.
The strangest part about it is when I am the only one home, it works fine. But if a roommate is home and on the network, I run into these issues. For example right now, when no one else is home, it works flawlessly. But at night, if another roommate is on it, it barely works at all. It only affects me, everyone else uses it without any problems.I tried changing routers to an airport express and it STILL happens. This problem ONLY occurs on this network (not in class or in the office).
I'm sure it must be a settings issue since its only my macbook and only on this one network. I dont know much about networking but I feel like my macbooks info is conflicting with the other laptops and wont function.Any ideas? I'm ready to snap this thing in half (warranty expired last month)
I have the MacBook 2.2 GHz with an Airport Extreme wireless card. When I try to connect to my WEP network, for some reason it just does not work. I have tried on multiple networks. I know that it is an issue with my computer because when I use a Windows computer or my Ipod Touch I have no issues.
So about a couple of days ago, out of the blue my 15 inch macbook pro stopped connecting to my homes wireless network
i ran techtool deluxe and it said that my volume structure test had failed so i googled what to do and i came up across a couple threads saying to use the fsck -y command after booting up into single user mode so i ran that twice and ran techtool again. this time everything passed however i am still unable to connect to the internet
but connecting via ethernet is working fine. airport is detecting my home network fine the only problem is whenever i input my password to join it, it fails
Had my MacBook Pro for a little a month now, and I love it. The problem I am faced with now is that I can't connect to my home network. My iMac is able to connect perfectly, but whenever I try to connect with my MBP, it won't connect, or will assign it's own IP and then states "You will not be able to connect to the internet." It's quiet annoying when I can't use my laptop to connect to the internet, what I am faced to do right now is take my iMac and bluetooth tether it to my MBP. This is fine if I'm in the same room, but it won't work when I'm upstairs. Does anyone know what's wrong? Should I contact my Apple store?
Is it possible to connect to two different network at the same time. One via wireless and one via cable Ethernet.Currently at my school I need to connect to a private network for my project, this network can only be connected to via cable Ethernet. However this network does not have any internet capabilities.
Hence I need to use the wireless on the mac-book to connect to the schools wireless network which is internet capable. On top of that I have to run an IEnabler app which signs in my user account. The problem is when I connect the two together the wireless always stop working. Is there any settings that I can do, to be able to connect to both network at same time.
Since about 2 days ago, my wifi on my Macbook air running 10.7.3 Lion does not connect to any wireless network, whether it's naked, WEP encrypted, or WP2 encrypted. It fails on 'Network Settings' Network Status step (Wi-fi and Wi-fi settings are 'green'). In fact, I can use my other Macbook running 10.7.2 Lion as well as my Android phone to connect to the wireless networks my Macbook air cannot connect to. Â
What I find really weird is I tried re-installing Lion on my Macbook air using the 'command-R' key on bootup. I was able to successfully connect to my WEP encrypted router during the re-install. But once it was done and re-booted I once again cannot connect to any wifi.Â
So something really funny is going on while OS-X is fully booted on my Macbook air.Â
This is pretty crummy situation to be in because the Macbook airs don't have a default ethernet jack built into it, so the computer is somewhat useless.
I've been using my MacBook to connect to the Internet through my Linksys wireless router around three years now. While I've had more than my fair share of problems between my MacBook and my wireless router, recently, things seems to have been going fine. While my wireless router needs a restart at least once or twice a day, I haven't had any major issues with it until a few weeks ago when my MacBook refused to connect to the network. It suddenly started working again two or three days later and I haven't thought about the issue until yesterday, when my laptop has again refused to connect.Â
When I login, the Wi-Fi searches for a Wi-Fi network and eventually connects to mine with the error 'Alert: No Internet Connection' in the menu. It can connect to my phone's wireless hotspot fine and all other devices in the house can connect to the network fine.Â
I have a g4 macbook pro and I can connect to the wireless g network just fine. It acts as if I have entered the wrong wep passcode when I try to connect and says login timed out
suddenly my MBP wont connect to my home wireless Netgear DG834PN, nor the other network in my house [as we have 2]. All othe devices do, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, etc...
just says 'No Internet' when connected.
network settings are set to
WPA2 PSK
and has always worked in the past. i work away so am connected to other networks while away. Not had chance to test another network outseidethe house yet.
previously the MBP used to log in no problem. Hard disk went, Apple installed new hard disk, we installed OS Lion and now it will not connect to a windows based server, what can be done
My MacBook, circa 2007, refuses to connect to my home WiFi network, despite having added my MAC address, being WPA encrypted, updated firmware and the like. I haven't had a problem in the last year, until I started taking my laptop to work. It connects to my work wifi network, WPA encryption, and every other network. I have no idea why it wont connect at home. I'm running snow leopard, other macs and PCs at home can connect... It seems I'm missing some odd quirk, I've seen a few threads of similar complaints, but no working resolution. Any ideas? I've wiped out Safari, cleaned all network settings, and it all started once my use shifted predominantly from home to work. Hmpf.
I just bought a new macbook yesterday. When I tried to add the wireless internet that my school provides it won't work. It says the self assigned IP address will not connect to the internet. However, when I plug in an ethernet cord the interent works fine.
I work at a student IT help center at a university in Montana. A girl has brought in her MAC 10.4 to try to connect to the universities wireless WPA network. All the settings are correct, for I connect laptops of all sorts for students everyday. The computer recognizes the network but will not bring up the "certificates" window so i can tell the computer to "always trust" the certificates. but it never comes up. i have tried deleting the Wireless profile and deleting the keychains for the WPA. And starting over from scratch, but the "Certificates" window still never shows.
I´ve massive trouble with connecting my wireless network via Airport. I´ve a MacBook (2008) with Lion. My connection was working till last week. I´vnt changed any setting or something..I was working like every day. From one secound to another the connection to my network was broken. When I try to connect to my network my Mac gives a trouble message: "timeout". I allready checked my router config (192.168.0.1 as admin) and everything is fine. No MAC Filter! Everything is set like it´s written in the apple manual. I allready restarted my router. Plugged it completly off. Not working. I was so desperated that I installed my system (Lion) new 2 days ago. The connection problem is still there! I don´t now where the problem is! I can connect with my MacBook to any other wireless network and via ethernet. The router is working fine because I can connect with my other laptop to it (by the way with 2 iphone as well). Do anyone no this problem? I don´t know what to do now.
Info: MacBook (13-inch Late 2007), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
My MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.Â
I can see my neighbors network but it doesn't even show my home network. Both iPhones are connected and working fine, our blu ray player is linked and getting good signal.... One day it just happened to not be there and it won't find it anymore. I have the Medialink n-router. I haven't changed any router settings...
I Am using my phone to post this because my computer won't connect to the internet. I am at school and to access the internet you have to connect and then open a browser to accept terms. With my phone the login auto pops up when I connect and same with my iPad but my new MacBook Pro retina doesn't pop anything up and when I go to the browser and try to get the login page to show up all I he is network error. Wifi symbol shows and ! With an alert no internet connection. Tried running diagnostics and that did nothing. Restarted to no avail.
I am facing issues in network connectivity. I am using a brand new MacBook Air. I am able to use the internet at the staring but once i logged off and log in back I am not able to connect. Signal strength is showing good. I always needed to goto network preferences and diagnose, so it will do the check ups and will show the connection is working properly and i will be able to use the internet. Â It is taking my time alot.
I have a Netgear wireless router that is about 4 years old and has the latest firmware installed. Until now, I have had only Windows computers connected wirelessly and it has worked fine. We just got a new Macbook. When I try to connect to our network, it finds the network name but goes nowhere once I have entered the passphrase. Not being familiar with Macbooks I'm not sure what I'm missing. I did see somewhere that older versions of Airport required either a '$' preceeding the password or that the password should be enclosed with "". None of these things helped. What am I missing?
By the way, according to the Netgear docs, this router should work with Macs.
(I think) but here we have a NAS (Network Access Storage) that everyone can access. Anyways, on a PC you go to network under my computer (or just computer or 7 now) and in there it is listed along with the other computers on the network. That's all good. On the Mac side you can see it as well, and that's all good. Here is what I am trying to figure out; on a pc in the computer navigation bar you can type addresses. For example the drive was not popping up earlier under the "network", so I just type "//DriveName" into the bar and it opened it up as if I had clicked it.
My MacBook won't connect to my university's WEP network. It can connect to the guest network but that doesn't ever really work, even when I can connect to the secure network. Anyway, my iPod touch has no problem connecting. I've rebooted multiple times and nothing.
I really like my new MacBook Air, but one thing bothers the crap out of me which is that my airport doesn't automatically connect at home. I did nothing to my network out of the box and connect via WPA2 settings. My wife's late 2008 MacBook always connects to our home network (which is an Apple Extreme N router). Even my Dell Mini with OSX connects perfectly every time. What's causing the MacBook Air not to automatically connect and how do I fix it? BTW, I have tried turning off the Airport and turning back on. Also I used "assist me" to reconnect my DHCP settings and clicked to automatically connect me to my network. The only way I can connect is to click down on the wireless icon and actually choose the network.
I've done a little digging and cannot find an answer to this problem.I have a Macbook circa November 2008 and a Netgear WNR854T Router.I try to connect to my wireless network but my Macbook won't do it. It will list my network in the network list and will connect to other unsecured networks but not to mine. I use WPA2 security on the network.Alternatively, my Macbook Air, Mac Mini, iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii have no problems connecting.
