Mac Pro :: Delayed When Viewing Folders On Network Disk?

In my office we have 5 macs on our desktops (all different, this one's a Mac Pro, there's a G4, a couple of eMacs and an Intel iMac), all connected to a G4 server and sharing data on a network hard disk.
Everything works fine except that in the last couple of weeks a problem has arisen whereby when you click a folder on a network drive to view it in the finder, there is a pause before the contents are shown, of between 5-10 seconds.
This doesn't sound much and it doesn't happen every time you select a folder, but if you're browsing through a lot of files it gets very boring indeed.
I have used my passport for mac as a time machine for my home computer and my work computer - both are macbook pro. I wanted to transfer documents from one computer to the other from the backups.backupdb, but when I get to the folders like "desktop", "documents", "downloads" etc. I get an error message saying "The folder “Desktop” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." and there´s a red "stop" icon on the folder.
In case I loose one computer, how I can access the data on another computer?
When I open a new folder and the same again, it shows 2 different folders in 2 different windows. Id like to see only 1 folder, previous folder would be replaced with the new folder. Im awared that there is an option to choose either you want the folder to be replaced or to show all folders in a new window. That setting isn't working for me for some reason. Anyone here with similar problem? What's the solution?
I am using a mac, and the rest of the company uses Windows, so I am on my own in terms of figuring out the differences in interface. I know you can right click the folder icon and view the users who have permission to read/write each folder.
I have been unsuccessful in figuring out how to view iCal between computers at home. Can it be set so that updates on one can be viewed automatically on the other? I am wanting it so that it is running unified and not separately between computers. And/ or so that when DH logs in, he sees updates I've made from when I logged in? We have a new iMac (Leopard) and Mac OSX 10.4.11 laptop.
So i've just started using Mac and i've downloaded a few tunes into the downloads folder and then moved them to music. I cant remember what the file names were so can no longer find them. Is there a way to organise the files in the music folder to show the most recently added? If not what do you recommend
I ran installer then went to disk utility and pushed disk repair. it ran and indicated in green that no repairs were necessary. i then went to startup disk and only the Diks and network startup showed up but no hard drive. i also open computer to make sure was not wet muddy due to leak in cooling system but all was dry
I have about 10 folders I want to sync onto my Network Hard Drive, but I cannot find a app that does it. Is there another way of doing it? It is a Mac to Network Storage. Finally, it must be able to constantly remain in sync.
I currently have a media center machine, and my laptop which i use to load my music with. So i am loading my albums onto my laptop and keeping them in the local Music folder, but i have the rest of my music collection stored on my media machine (also a mac). Im wondering if anyone has a solid free solution i can use where it can sync my music folder on my laptop to the music folder on the media machine. I have looked for some on google but they either cost something, or they dont seem reliable. If i could find one that runs on schedule to back up my music every night that would be prime.
When I access another Mac via Airport (using Safari and typing in an address such as afp://192.168.1.3), I can access the other Mac by typing in the password, its disk will appear on my Desktop, but a small red dash appears in User folders such as Desktop, and if I try to open the folder it says I don't have permission.
How do I sync the contents of say, the desktop and documents folders between my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro so the same files are always on both? I only want to do this over the local network because these folders are enormous and I need the syncing done fast.
when I open any network shares on my macs, they will open up but then start expanding certain folders. This keeps happening every time I open them. I have tried compacting them again, but everytime I open them from new it just expands them again.

My MBP is delayed going to sleep, waking from sleep and connecting to wireless connection.This started after installing the latest rounds of updates yesterday. I just repaired disk permissions and have restarted several times but no luck resolving it.

Does anyone have a good solution for delayed email sending? I'm currently using Mac Mail and haven't found a way to do this.
I just installed the beta version of Microsoft Office w/ Outlook 2011 and I don't see that option either.
Sometimes I'm working all throughout the night and would like to schedule the emails to be sent in the morning. Somehow, a 7am email just looks so much better than a 3am email
I was wondering if anyone knows a good way of setting up time-delayed email?
The reason being, my girlfriend has her driving theory test about 3 days after I leave the country for a few weeks, and I will most probably be without internet access for the first few days I'm away.
At the moment, I'm sending her little mini tests every day, to help her revise, that I write myself (well, I copy them out of the book )
So I'd like to be able to send like 2 or 3 emails with mini-tests in... I'd like to specify the time and date they are delivered.
I purchased an apple bluetooth mouse last week for my MBA and it has been working great up until this morning. I went to use it and I have much delayed feedback in my mouse movements. Here are the things I tried:
1. Paired it with another mac w/bluetooth and it works normally. 2. Replaced the batteries on the bluetooth mouse, same issue. 3. Repaired the mouse with the MBA, same issue. 4. Changed the wireless channel on my airport express to 8.
Basically when I am designing websites and I'm jumping back and forth between my browser and my editor I get some odd text selecting issues. It is a kind of delayed reaction to typing and it incredibly annoying. I thought it might be something to do with overheating but then it started happening just after I turned my iMac on. This has also happened when entering the license code for some software. The only way to stop it is to then click the top bar on the window.
Now something that might be related - I recently upgraded the RAM to 8GB, it was brought from Crucial so it should be okay right? Now after I installed it, it showed up as 8GB but then a few days ago it lowered itself back down to 4GB and remains there. And this defiantly isn't due to lose connections. I have had a number of issues with this iMac 27", screen flickering, these text problems and just this morning it crashed for no reason at all - I only had the mail app open and Firefox.
I've recently been noticing that youtube plays really slow and you hear the audio before you see the video. However, on chromuim I have no problem playing youtubes.
Whenever I press on the volume key or brightness, I have to hold it down for 3 seconds for it to change, it didn't do that before, I messed it up, can it be fixed?
I've spilled a tiny amount of water on my trackpad (drops of sweat from a glass, so not much at all) and now the trackpad isn't working. The cursor is delayed and inaccurate and reminds me of windshield wipers on a dry windshield in that it bounces across the screen. Also, the menu of a right click keeps popping up but I haven't right clicked. Is there any way that I can dry under the trackpad? Can I take the trackpad off? I have a 13" unibody. I did fold paper towels in half and stuck them in the cracks between the trackpad and the wrist rest and that did get some water up, but there is either still water under there or permanent damage. I'm not very tech-savy, so I'd rather not take the whole thing apart on my own, but it is work issued and I'd have to take it to them before I can take it to an Apple store.
Is there a reason for the delay in Safari's Top Sites (i.e. when you load a page, the page is dimmed for a moment, then loads). Is it possible to disable it?
Disk Utility when repairing said my laptop had some nested folders that when beyond the recommended 100 deep. But it does not say where or what. I know there must be a real physical limit, and i am having disk problems and what to eliminate all possible causes.
I'm an application developer thinking of writing a small utility to help you clean up your disk when it gets full. The idea is to present the largest files and folders in your home directory along with the last time they were opened.
I have two folders in my trash which I cannot empty. No matter how many times I try these folders will not go away. I have open the "info" link and marked them read and write without success.
I'd like to delete some locked files from a network-disk, and this is giving me problems. I've found lots of guides on how to delete locked files, but they consider regular files on a HD which is easily accessible by the terminal.
I am using a 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon MAC running Leopard OS (10.5.6). We are 3 designers using 1 network drive (Lacie Ethernet 1TB) to store our projects. I used to be able to backup this network drive using duplicate option of Retrospect Express to another Lacie that was attached to the USB port on my MAC. Since we upgraded to Leopard I have not been able to do this. I think this is because the network drive no longer mounts on my desktop. I think it used to think the network drive was on my computer because it was on my desktop, but it no longer does. Anyway, I need to back this drive up on a regular basis. (I am currently drag/copying it, did I say 1TB) Is there any way that I can get this drive to mount so that it is on my desktop? Does anyone know of any programs that might duplicate this NAS for me over the network to the one on my MAC or I could add another Lacie to the network. All of the software I have found is just to backup a MAC computer not a drive. If I can drag and drop it, it seems like this should be easy, but when I tried a command line copy it didn't work (I think because we named it "mac lacie disk" with spaces between the words and it stops at "mac" and can't find the rest.
For a program I have to access a local disk as network drive. The path has to be the network path and not the local path (with the disk name) how can I do this?
I use Backup (the Mac app) to backup some things to my iDisk and others to an hd connected to my airport extreme. It works fine, except for that when the app appears (each day) for the scheduled backup to the network hd, (it sits there waiting, saying ''waiting for volume... and the name of the disk"). I have to go to the finder, open a window, go to 'All' under 'Shared' locations, choose the network hd, click on the folder (there's only one one the disk) and then, and only then, will the backup begin. Is there any way for it to just be able to find the folder by itself and perform the backup without my having to find the folder for it every time?
I've successfully installed XP on my Macbook (Late 2009) and now need to install the drivers to get Network connectivity etc. However I don't have my mac disc at hand as I am away travelling at the moment. Can I download the drivers either from my mac or from the internet to USB, then transfer and install them into XP? I have the latest version of OSX and am up-to-date with everything afaik. Running XP Pro SP 3.
I've tried to install the network drivers via the original disk that came with my computer, the bootcamp 2.1 disks, and even the HP Broadcom drivers, where none of them worked, does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem, Ethernet works perfectly btw.
