OS X :: Stuck With Vertical Lines Across Screen At Start Up On MacBook
Dec 8, 2009This is my first time having some serious problems with my first MacBook, and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. This macbook was bought on June 2006 (a white MB) with I believe the 10.4.6 OSX on. I gave it to my dad which is across the world and he called desperate a few days ago saying that the system won't boot up. When the power button is pushed on and the system starts, rings the Apple bell and soon after colorful vertical lines show up across the screen and the system freezes. Here's what I found out from my research on the topic, for some macs of that generation, when the system updates from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 some video card issue causes this glitch to happen. The solution: zap the PRAM (by holding control + command + p + r when booting the computer.) My dad has tried this approach many times and it doesn't solve it. We also tried booting it with the installation disc and that didn't work. We also tried the safe mode boot and that also didnt work.

Jun 3, 2012I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".
I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on. When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.

Mar 5, 2012Simply using my Imac for watching tv on the web, Hulu, and left to help my wife get groceries in the house. My wife checked her email and closed Safari.
I came back in roughly 10 minutes from when she shut down Safari to see a black screen with white pinstriping, and the mac being totally unresponsive. Shut down and rebooted, sent off the report to Apple, and am now here with seemingly no problems.Â
Needless to say, as a photographer this computer is just about as important as my camera. Should I be worried? discovered the thread to this issue, which appears to be quite extensive.Â

Intel Mac :: Screen Covered With Vertical Straight Lines?
May 17, 2012It started a week ago while playing Civilization V on my iMac : the screen suddenly displayed vertical blue (altered with dark blue) vertical straight lines, the sound was still working, i could hear the music from the game. Then the screen turned black and i couldn't hear anything anymore, i had to restart the computer with the apple button. The same happened again with civilization, once with green lines. And today, while restarting after this bug, the screen displayed multicolor lines instead of the grey wallpaper with the apple.

Sep 25, 2009When I start up my screen is filled with a load of bars made up of small vertical lines. After about 20 minutes they seem to stop appearing, although fragments of them remain on the desktop and dock.
It' also runs really slowly at first.

Dec 27, 2008I've just got a new macbook and it's awesome, really feels like a well built notebook. I have 3-4 specs under my screen, there not dead pixels so I'm 99% sure there specs of dust. Now I'm curious, are all the new Macbooks gonna have a few specs or not? I don't know whether to take it back for a new one or live with it. If most Macbooks are going to have the odd spec I will just hang on to it and get over it. But if most of the owners on here have 100% perfect screens, I'll get it exchanged.

Mac Pro :: Black Vertical Bar Shows On Start Up - 2.66 Quad Core 6Gb RAM
Dec 4, 2010start up I get a black bar one inch from the left, approx 4 inches in diameter running from the top of the screen to the bottom. The Apple 'logo' plus all the finder 'words' appear on the right hand side of this black bar. The cursor will not go beyond the black bar. It's as though it hits a wall.

Dec 6, 2010I was out at the Apple store this weekend and got a chance to play around with the new MBA air. My favourite part had to be the new 13.3" high resolution screen. I especially liked the silver bezel and the fact that it didn't have that annoying (imo) glass covering.
I think a resolution bump is a given for the 13" 2011 MBP but what about the other features of the MBA's screen such as Silver bezel and losing the glass. Ditching the glass would also help lighten the machine.

Nov 30, 2014grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.Â

One is my son who has moved out and the other is my ex boyfriend and I do not want their start up/sign in icons on this computer anymore.(the last 2 are me and my daughter who uses the computer.) May 3, 2012When I press the start button the screen goes on and I hear the chime but after 2 to 3 seconds the screen goes completely black. the fan in working the red light under the mouse is on. led # 1,2,3 are all on. I can't find my original system disk, so I inserted an original system disk from my macbook and tried pressing "C" at start up. But what ever I do the screen goes on for 2 or 3 second and after that goes black and stays black.
