Power Mac G5 :: Saving And Editing Home Movies

Dec 21, 2007

I just bought a Mac Mini and was excited to start saving my home movies from 8mm cassettes to my hard drive and go nuts with editing and so on and so on. I have a new intel mini 1.83, what do I need to handle video editing without waiting 5 hours for a dv to become a .mov and or waiting 300 hours ti import a mpg into imovie. I have about a grand to work with, will a g4 tower be enough OR g5? Will be looking on craigslist and have found several however I have no clue what equals a mac mini towerwise for a starting point, someone told me they have an old g4 and have no problems with video editing, however looking at the specs it is underpowered versus what I have.

MacBook Pro :: Editing IPhoto Videos In IMovie On MBP?

Nov 16, 2010

I used my iPhone 4 to record some video taken over a vacation in hopes of making a movie whenever I could. Today, I imported my videos from my iPhone into my Macbook Pro using iPhoto, and then iMovie automatically synced the videos just placed in iPhoto
First of all, I posted the exact same topic in the "Digital Media" section, however it's been about two weeks since, and I've received no response due to the section's user traffic, or lack thereof.

Now, my problem is that I recorded about 5-6 hours of footage and iMovie has it all in one location called "iPhoto Videos." Furthermore, whenever I click into that location (folder), iMovie lags ridiculously it's very hard for me to navigate between the various days as it's all compiled into one location/folder.

Also, I'd like to mention that I've made movies before, however they were neatly organized by date as I was able to import the footage straight to iMovie instead of iPhoto (using a digital camera with a video recording feature).

MacBook Pro :: New Base 13" MBP For Home Video Editing?

Apr 24, 2010

I want to get a new MBP but my budget puts me at the base 13" (2.4gHz C2D and nVidia 320M); my question is if it will be sufficient to do home video editing (iMovie 09 and FCE4).Many of the clips I will be editing are 2 hr VHS tapes converted to video and the output will, be for 1hr DVDs; I just don't want the system to get bogged down by multiple clips, etc.

Applications :: IMovie Editing Pane Stopped Working?

Sep 17, 2009

I have been editing a movie for hours, now, and iMovie has decided to stop working. I am able to skim the raw video that is displayed on the bottom, but my edited video on top does nothing. I can't play it back in the preview window, either while skimming or selecting whole clips to play. It will not open in full screen, either. I have restarted my computer, and I have repaired disk permissions. This is a very important movie, and I do not want to start over. What steps can I take to fix this problem and, more importantly, make sure that it doesn't happen again?

Applications :: Audio Editing A Few Seconds Of An IMovie Clip?

Aug 15, 2010

I took a video on my iPhone 4, uploaded it to my computer, and imported it into iMovie so I can edit the sound. At a few points throughout the one minute clip, my voice is overbearingly loud since I'm holding the phone nearest to me... and I'd like to adjust the sound (I guess simply decrease the volume?) at these few points where my voice overpowers the rest of the video... so as to make it less awkward for myself, really... before I share the video with any of my friends and family. How would I go about this to just edit the volumes of a few short segments?

Mac Mini :: Importing And Editing Videos (iMovie And Final Cut X)?

Mar 26, 2012

My mac mini is an i5 2.3ghz with 8 ghz RAM with a 240 GB SSD. I import and edit a lot of videos using imovies and final cut.  a week or so ago final cut x started slowing down a lot and crashing and then imovie started wit hthe same simptons, i've tried reinstalling both, deleting the full .plist and preference files, i tried installing a fresh lion install and then installing just imovie and final cut and the same thing happens. does anyone have any idea of what the problem might be ? the fact that i used a fresh installation of lion and saw the same issues makes me believe it's a hardware issue but nothing else seems to slow down or have problems. Is it maybe the RAM?

It seems, or seemed perhaps that AVI's can't be loaded or edited in iMovie(I am also not interested in using quicktime etc, I want to try and stick with iMovie)

Can you import the AVI files as well as the "real" format clips into iMovie and then edit all together to make your home movie?

Applications :: Making VHS Home Movies Into IDVD?

Apr 26, 2010

I recently pulled all of my old home movies from VHS's to the computer with a roxio software. I have them in iMovie '09 and have edited them and what not. Next I wish to import them into iDVD to burn them to share. First off is there a good amount of video to export at a time? because I have massive amounts. Probably 10-15 clips of about 2-3 hours of movie a piece. Also when I go to export just one clip it eventually quits on me. Is this because they are too long or too big? They do measure up to be between 10-15gb.

OS X :: Home Movies And Hard Drive Space?

Aug 14, 2010

I am on an intel 20" imac with a 250GB HD using iLife 09. I am back from a vacation with the family and realize that I can't import any video to my imac because the HD has no more space. To get some space back I am currently doing the following: Going through old video footage and trashing all video I never used in a project. If I attach an external HD can I can I download raw footage on this and then edit with imovie through the external? s there anything anyone else suggests? I MRoogled this and found some ways to save space but couldn't find much on the above two questions that weren't over my experience level as I just want to do home movies for memories.

Software :: How Can I Extract My Home Made Movies From A Damaged DVD

Jan 5, 2010

For the past 10 years I made around 20 dvd from vacations, wedding and others events. Recently I decided to put them on my computer in quicktime format using handbrake. Unfortunately half of them will not work. Looks like the DVD is damaged, but I don't see any scratches.

So I tried with different softwares like mac the ripper, dvdxdvpro. But no luck, I can't extract the movie from a bad dvd.

When I put my dvd in a dvd player, some part of my movie will skip or freeze and some will play just fine
Just wonder if anybody knows a way to retrieve movie from a damaged dvd or maybe a part of the movie

I spent a huge amount of time to make those dvd and even if I have the original cassette, I wish I could have them back.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Home Movies At Wrong Aspect Ratio?

Apr 28, 2012

I have a lot of home movies that were recorded onto a Verbatim Hard Drive Recorder in a .mpg format. These movies are in the proper widescreen aspect ratio when played back on my TV, however, when I transfered them to my Mac the .mpg video files became fullscreen. I had to use MPEG Streamclip and the MPEG-2 Playback Component to create true widescreen .dv files for iMovie. However, I was forced to to do an erase and reinstall of Leopard last week and I lost the MPEG-2 Component.

I was upgrading to Lion though, and I had heard that the Component was no longer necessary as Lion had the capability to playback MPEG-2 files. I had assumed that Streamclip would also use this built-in MPEG-2 Component. I have upraded to Lion just today, but Streamclip cannot open any of the .mpg files claiming it needs the Component. Is there another Streamclip equivelant that can correct the aspect ratio with requiring me to buy another Playback Component? Or better yet is there any existing application on Lion that can correct the video shape?
