Intel Mac :: Best Solutions For Screen Glare On Imac?
Jun 22, 2012
I need to invest in a larger screen and updated mac, but I HATE the glare of the screens on imac. I'm a writer - long hours - who has been waiting for Apple to respond to complaints and request for matte screen.Seems like no prospect of it happening soon. Any suggestions/ solutions for someone on a limited budget?

Woke my C2D MBP from sleep to find a horrendous blue tint to the screen, googled it and found it is a fairly common problem but none of the solutions that seemed to work for everyone have worked for me. Tried the terminal command, tried turning a screensaver on and then off, tried ctrl-cmd-eject to restart the screen - nada.

So my sister's girlfriend is a professional photographer. Her former consultant get her an SCSI 68-pin connected Sony StorMaster tape drive that backs up her 3 big NAS drives with all her work via EMC Retrospect. This was on a PowerMac G5 tower with an SCSI 68-pin card installed. She's moving and has tasked me with getting it all up and running again at her new place since she's fallen out with the old consultant (who did some weird, weird stuff with their network - why are there 3 switches for the NAS? Why does the Airport run through two of them? WTF?) and got an iMac 27" i7.
Now, problem is, obviously that her i7 has no way of plugging into that SCSI tape drive. She's been using her G5 purely to run Retrospect which is a waste of space and energy. Plus she's moving to a much smaller space, so I really, really want to get it out of there. So here's the thing - I CANNOT find a 68-pin SCSI to USB adapter other than one by Ratoc, which apparently only lets the tape drive function in "mass storage mode" which doesn't really tell me if it will work with Retrospect or not. Is there another solution to keep the current tape drive and plug it into the iMac?

I was wondering if any of you know of a screen protector made for the 15" AnitGlare Screen fitting the inside of the Silver edge, the only ones that I ve found are for the Glossy screen and makes the screen 'AG'
So all I want is a normal Screen protector that fit the 15" AG screen.

I just got a new MBP 15 i5 2010 with a high-res anti-glare screen.
Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 00009CBB
Serial Number: 00000000
Manufacture Date: 00000000
Unfortunately the display doesn't show very light colors. (compared to my old MBP15 2007) If you look at the attached image [URL]
- at section 5 I can only see the Grey boxes from 235 to 247, and I CAN'T see any Grey box from 249 to 253.
- at section 3 I can't see the Grey box at 5 all the other from 10 to 50 are fine.
Changing the brightness, playing around with different color profiles and resetting the system didn't solve this problem. I called Apple support and after some resets I was asked to compare my screen with the same make/year. Does anybody has the same 2010 MBP15 high-res anti-glare display and experiencing the same issue? Does your display work fine and is showing all the different Grey boxes?Other MBP owners: Can you see all Grey boxes on your MBP screen? My brothers 2009 MBP15 is showing all light Grey boxes from 235 to 251. 253 can't be seen

My buddy just saw one of these and suggested it to me. I have the glossy screen and would like less glare. Anyone use this or something like this on their glossy MBP screen? Any loss in color, or balance of color?

I purchased my 17" MacBook Pro last April and noticed a few months ago when cleaning the screen that there were about four small opaque spots in various sizes on the screen. I have always taken great care and never used anything other than a microfiber cloth moistened with a very small amount of water to clean the screen, so I am sure these aren't water spots, although that's what they look like. You only see them when the screen is dark and my MBP is in sleep mode, they aren't visible when it's up and running, so I'm not too majorly concerned, but it does bother me enough to question it. Too, they seem to have increased in number with time.

Does anybody know if Apple is going to bring the new silver bezel with matte screen to the regular Macbooks like they did with the new 17" MBP? I would buy in a second if they would!

This is my first post on Macrumors and unfortunately it is in regards to a problem that I am currently experiencing with my brand new Macbook Pro 15" w/anti-glare upgrade. I purchased the unit on the 28th May and have used it without problems for until yesterday when I noticed some intermittent flickering in the screen generally a horizontal banding that happens quite sporadically and also changes in brightness levels etc. I checked in with an Apple store earlier today and a staff member at the Genius bar couldn't figure it out either. She tried installing new firmware, but the problem remained and told me that she suspects it is an issue related to the firmware as opposed to hardware. The only advice was to wait it out until Apple addresses the issue with a new firmware upgrade?
I can honestly say I'm not very impressed since this MBP was my supposed long-awaited transition from a lifetime user of PCs to the supposedly more stable/reliable Macs! Just my luck I guess. Nonetheless not a great start to my Mac experience. Anyways, just wanted to see what is the best way to go about it and whether I have the right to demand for an outright replacement (I will be heading off overseas on the 24th June and will definitely need it while away), which may be an issue in itself as I don't think any retailers (I'm located in Sydney) have the 15" w/anti-glare model on hand/stock - mine took over 2 weeks to arrive via a special order. Peoples thoughts? Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Only thing that I could find of relevance were the problems experienced earlier this year with the 27" iMacs.

I just picked up a 13" MBP for my wife with everything except the anti-glare, really wish it was an option. Has anyone used any matte or anti-glare screen protectors that they are happy with? My wife is a photographer and will be using this outdoors for work, so it's a must.

I don't want to start a matte vs. glossy debate, but I may have to cut the glare on my new unibody. I'm going to give it a little more time to see if my eyes adjust, but for now it still seems to be causing light headaches in my environment. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has been able to compare the Moshi iVisor and the Power Support and can comment on the difference. I don't know anything about Moshi, but have heard people say that they make good stuff. They seem to mostly advertise the screen based on it's ease of install and while I know first hand how painful it is to install a power support screen, I'm more interested in the quality of the display after the install. I'm wondering if the Moshi has the same little grainy feel to it that the power support has.

I have two problems/questions for this thread.
#1: My superdrive makes an incredible amount of noise lately. I'm not sure why it does that. It doesn't scratch any of the discs or anything, its just annoying. Should I get it fixed?
#2: I have a glassy screen. I hate it sometimes. Is it possible to get the screen replaced with an anti-glare screen?

So I got my Moshi Anti-Glare screen cover for my late 08 15" uMBP. I like it. It DOES make a difference, and I like having a little protection for my screen. It makes the blacks a little more grey, mostly noticeable in natural light and if you're looking at the screen from a bit of an angle. It's not as prominent from dead on. Honestly, I didn't like it immediately after I put it on. Of course, I just dropped 40 bucks on it so I wasn't about to get rid of it! Now it looks totally natural to me. I didn't take pictures of the actual cover before I installed it, but it was a breeze. Came with a little microfiber cloth to get dust/prints off before you install. The adhesive is only on the black border of the screen. No air bubble issues at all, and it lines up super easy. On the cover, the border is also black, but clears out to show the MacBook Pro on the bottom. For the iSight camera, it clears and ALSO has a hole for the lens, so there is nothing covering your camera (which was a concern of mine. I would have just cut a hole for it, but I appreciate not having to bust out scissors) it's a little disappointing in intense natural light, like in the picture, but it really shines in an office environment. I'm ok with that, since that's where all my eye-strain was coming from. If I do any work with natural light that I can't control with blinds or moving to another couch, it's not gonna be that serious. Overall, I'd love to not spend 40 bucks for a piece of thin plastic, but no sense in complaining about the Mac accessory market now =) I do recommend it, and if for some reason I get another glossy notebook, I will be getting this most definitely.... though I think I'll be better off getting an anti-glare screen from the get go.

My friend just got his CTO MBP15 i7 anti-glare hi-res and we compared it to my old Core Duo MBP15 screen. Do you think there is light leak in the new machine? It reminds me the memory of "Apple Lottery". Now I am nervous since I am going to order one.
Left: 2010 MBP15 i7 hi-res anti-glare 9CB7
Right: 2006 MBP15 Core Duo anti-glare 9C56
The new one is brighter so I adjust the brightness for fair comparison. Should I tell my friend to replace it? I wonder if other ones have the same issue.

My computer has a problem on the screen. After half an hour of use strange white glare that remain in the bottom begins to appear. When disconnecting the unit from one day to the next, but these glosses disappear within a half hour of use reappear. Why does it happen? Will it be a failure of manufacture? The device is 2013 What should I do

Could it be that (after much agonising) I opted for the glossy screen?
I feel that I want to adjust the contrast, but I don't know how.
