Hardware :: Using AE Or AEBS As Bridge?

Apr 10, 2009

Hi. Looking for some advice on whether to purchase an Airport Express or an AEBS for bridging Wireless-N in my apartment.

Currently I run a Mac Pro via gigabit ethernet to a D-Link DGL-4300 wireless-G router. My Powerbook is wireless-G and connects wirelessly. I also have an ipod Touch which is obviously G. I just recently purchased an AppleTV to get some HD and iTunes streaming in the bedroom, so the AppleTV is not located near the D-Link where I could connect it via ethernet.

So I need Wireless-N in order to stream content to the AppleTV. I also need to maintain a wireless-G network for both the Powerbook and the iPod Touch.

I was considering buying a new router that did simultaneous G and N but it would be an awful waste of what's otherwise a great existing G router.

So my question is, should I get an Airport Express and run it in Bridge mode to provide wireless-N connectivity to the AppleTV and any other follow-on N products I may purchase, or should I go with the AEBS which would come with a USB port for an external hard drive?

Hardware :: Using DD-WRT To Bridge AEBS (Or Vice-Versa)

Apr 30, 2010

I'm moving into a new apartment soon, and I really don't want to worry with running wires again. I want to setup my linksys WRT610N (running DD-WRT) in my office, and connect it to my AEBS which will sit in my living room, connected to my gateway.

I initially tried to do the reverse of this, and have the AEBS join the DD-WRT network, but it didn't seem to want to do that at all. So I'm trying to join the DD-WRT box to the AEBS network. I'm just having trouble on defining the security settings.

I'm using WPA2 Personal on my AEBS. What encryption algorithm does the AEBS use? My wrt gives me options for aes, tkip, or both.

Hardware :: AEBS Bridge Mode / Connect To Ethernet Or WAN?

Jan 21, 2009

I currently have an O2 wireless ADSL2 Modem connected to my AEBS. I've disabled the Wi-Fi signal of the wireless box since its a G router and i'd rather be using the AEBS for its N signals. I'm wondering if i should connect the O2 box to the ethernet port of the AEBS or WAN port whilst in bridge mode? or it doesn't matter?

Slingbox (hardwired to AEBS)
AE (old school version)
WD 1TB external (connected to AEBS via usb)

All currently connected to a AEBS wireless.

OS X :: Using As A Network Bridge?

Nov 18, 2010

Here's my goal: simply to share my MBPs wireless connection to my Xbox over ethernet. Sounds simple enough and I know it should be possible but it isn't working. I have internet sharing on to go from the airport to ethernet but when I try to connect the xbox it can't even find a network or get an IP address. I would assume I just need to get my computer to act as a host of some kind and assign it an IP address, but I can't figure out how to get it to do that.

OS X :: How To Use Macbook As Network Bridge For Pvr

Sep 9, 2010

Not sure if this is the right place but I have my Humax HDR T2(a pvr) connected to my macbook via ethernet as my laptop is next to my tv and thats not on the same floor as the router. Before I got the wireless adapter for my xbox I was doing the same setup and using my macbook as a bridge which worked well but the T2 is saying network disconnected. It is showing up all the settings from the network apart from gateway address. On my mac its saying the "ethernet has a self assigned IP so an internet connection will not be possible".

I would like to add that it's not 100% sure since Fudzilla didn't show any concrete evidence but they usually know their stuff. At least we have hope now

Mac Pro :: Sandy Bridge Upgrade?

Oct 8, 2010

Does anyone know the status on "Sandy Bridge" with regards to it being utilized in future Mac Pro's? I ask as I just sold my 2008 2.8 8 Core and am considering a 2010 8 Core Westmere. However I can live without a system, so if in 5-6 months Sandy Bridge appears in the Mac Pro, and it's worth the wait, I'm for it.

MacBook Pro :: Using Sandy Bridge?

Jan 6, 2011

So I've seen way to many "should I upgrade now or wait" threads, but I've been out of the tech "loop" for a while, and I would just like to ask weather its worth it to wait for the new mbp if it has sandybridge with it.

So I will be going to college soon, and I'm going to be taking some film courses, and I do photoshop work and premier work with a bit of after effects. Would anyone be able to tell me weather the sandy bridge will be able to handle this better than the current cpu's or are the current cpu's going to preform better? I can wait if I have to for the new ones, but I'm currently on a $300 netbook right now, I just sold my i7 gaming/media windows computer for money to buy my macbook. I'm switching to mac for good, I'm getting sick with windows.

I'm going to wait for the 2011 mbp announcement before I make any final decisions though. I don't want to buy a current mbp if the 2011's have some crazy good upgrade and I miss out.

Mac Pro :: ATI 3870 And Adobe Bridge

Nov 30, 2008

Can anyone who is using this card let me know if they have had issues with CS4. I'm trying to determine if this related to the video card.

Problem: When I try to view a slide show or do a full screen view all I get is a grey screen, pictures do not display. The Radeon HD3870 Mac & PC edition meets Adobe's specs for Photoshop and Bridge CS4. Adobe has tested the 3870 with Windows but not with OS X.

Adobe's documentation lists Bridges GPU functions as

Preview Panel
Full-screen preview
Slideshow
Review Mode

Only the Preview Panel is working correctly.

Here are my system specs:
MacPro 2 dual-core processors 2.66 GHz
5 GB of certified memory
ATI Radeon HD 3870 Mac and Windows edition
the vidio card has 512 MB of VRAM

I'm running OS X 10.5.5

The driver that is installed is the original from the disk. I could not find an updated driver on ATI's site or Apples site.

My system info shows two listings for the HD 3870, both in slot 1. The first has display for type and yes for driver installed. The second lists ATY, MegaledonParent as type and no for driver installed.

OS X :: How Do I Bridge 2 Wireless Networks

Apr 16, 2009

I have two different broadband connections at home on two separate phone lines.

Each broadband connection has it's own Wireless Router (1 has a Belkin 54g the other is an Orange Livebox). I also have an Apple Airport Express which is doing nothing at the minute.

What I'd like to do is set up the two networks to be linked i.e. the MacPro on Connection 1 will be able to see the other Macs on Connection 2 and file share the video's/music etc etc...

How would I go about setting this up?

MacBook Pro :: Finding Sandy Bridge?

Oct 18, 2010

I am currently at University studying animation. I use programmes such as Adobe Flash and photoshop. When I get a MBP I will be using it for those programmes, Microsoft office, watching tv shows and movies, football manager, music and internet browsing.

Now from what I understand of the intel processors the current i3, i5 and i7 are already very good. My question is do I really need to wait until SB to do the things I want?

I currently use a desktop dual core and it is slow for what I do but I can cope.

I'm thinking of 13" i3 MBP but if you guys really think I would need better I probably will go for the 15" i5.
