Aug 19, 2010What a great place! I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to connecting a mini to the above TV.
I have the same TV in 32 inches and use a mini to HDMI cable that works perfectly. For some reason, the 40 inch TV says 'no signal' when I try to hook it up the same way. I've tried all the HDMI ports...including ones that work with other devices.

MacBook :: Hooking Up A Mb To Sony Bravia HDTV?
Sep 26, 2009I have a Macbook Unibody (late 08) with the mini displayport. I want to hook it up to my Sony Bravia (KDL-40V3000). Since the HDMI ports are all used up, the only ports available are the VGA, and Component.
My questions are pretty basic:
What is my best option to hook it up, giving me the highest resolution (the TV says it does 1920 x 1080). Will both VGA and Component do that?
Also, I do already have the mini displayport to DVI adapter for another monitor I use, so I could get a DVI->VGA adapter I think. But if that's going to degrade the video, or whatnot, I don't mind getting a different adapter for this project.
MacBook Pro :: Connecting To Sony Bravia - No Sound
Oct 2, 2009I used to have a White Macbook. This connected to my Sony Bravia via a Mini DVI-DVI, then a DVI-HDMI cable. The sound went from the headphone jack on the MB to two connectors on the TV (L&R). Job done.
Now I have a MBP and am trying the same thing. I have a Mini Displayport-HDMI cable, with the HDMI then going to the TV. I have the same audio connection. The result is perfect picture but no sound at all.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the sound working? I have the same issue with my unibody Macbook as well. These are the connections I have on the TV;

OS X :: Using ITunes Movies On 2nd Display - On Sony Bravia
Dec 31, 2009I posted this on the iTunes section and did not get solutions for my problem. I hooked-up my MacBook Pro to my Sony Bravia HDTV to watch iTune movies and use my computer at the same time (non-mirrored in monitor preferences). iTunes movies play on my HDTV when they are not maximized in iTunes. When I maximize the movie, it reverts back to my MacBook screen and the HDTV screen goes blank. I reviewed all my display preferences and cannot find any options to fix this.
Another question, will HD iTunes movies display properly on a 52" HDTV screen at 1080p? It seems that some of the movies I have played so far seem grainy and jerky at minimized screen (since I can't maximize it). Basically, I want to match the quality of a HD movie DVD. Any experiences with this or am I wasting my time? Shouldn't using a MacBook Pro be like using AppleTV with regard to video quality?

Jun 2, 2012I have an iMac (early 2008) and I would like to use my Sony Bravia TV (46EX520) as a monitor. Pretty easy so far but the trick is that I would like to do it wirelessly. I have the Sony wireless / LAN adaptor (UWA-BR100) which enable me to connect my TV to my modem/router (D-Link DSL-2730B). However, I do not want to stream movies, music or pictures from my computer to my TV. I want to use the TV as computer screen. I have not found a way to wirelessly link my iMac to the Sony Bravia magic trick?

Jun 15, 2010I recently bought a Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR9. I have it hooked up to my MacBook using an HDMI to DVI connection. But, I'm not getting sound through the TV. So, I bought a 3.5mm to RCA (one red, one white connection) cable. I've plugged the red and white connections into all of the red/white ports on the back of the tv but I'm still not getting sound out of the tv.
How do I get the tv to use the HDMI for video but the RCA for sound?

Oct 4, 2010I just replaced my HDTV with a new Sony Bravia 32EX500 (Full HD, 1080p). My previous TV (HD Ready, 720p) was linked to my 2008 iMac with a VGA cable (with a mini-DVI to VGA adapter on the Mac end). It worked perfectly fine, but I can't get it to work with the new TV. Could you please tell me what resolution, frequency, and colours I should use to make it work?
Please not that I do not want a HDMI cable. I know it'd be better and easier, but my computer is quite far away from the TV and an HDMI cable of that length would be way too expensive. I'd rather find a way to make it work with the existing VGA cable. I just need to find the right settings for that VGA input. The TV doesn't recognize the signal right now.

Apr 5, 2010I have a MacBook 5,1 (late 2008) running Mac OS X 10.6.3 which I would like to connect to our Sony Bravia KDL-37S5500 to watch films. The Sony Bravia has a 1080p resolution (1920x1080) and my MacBook can output up to 1920x1200 (which it has been doing fine on my Dell monitor).
I am connecting it using the Apple mini-display-port to DVI converter, then a DVI cable and finally a DVI to HDMI converter which plugs straight into the TV.
It looks great except that it doesn't fill the screen entirely. It seems the resolution is correct (text looks normal, not stretched in any way), but when Overscan is turned on the image is slightly too big horizontal-wise. When Overscan is turned off I get black borders around the image (horizontal as well as vertical). We've tried different settings both on the TV and on the MacBook, but we can't get the right view.
MacBook Pro :: Bad Picture Clarity At 1080p On Sony Bravia 26 Inch?
May 9, 2012today i decided to use my sony bravia 26 inch klv series LCD TV as my primary display instead of my LG 22 inch LED and at first i was surprised that it reported the input as "unsupported". after a few tries now i have the display running as a primary diplay at 1080p and the macbook in closed lid clamshell. but the picture clarity is horrible! the font is barely readable and the color isn't that good either. also, the edges of both the font and the pictures aren't sharp or crisp.
its like watching a blur image like on a vga. i'm using a mini display port to dvi adapter and a dvi to hdmi cable. before u think its the cable let me tell u this same cable works fine with my 22inch led, 22inch sony lcd and 40 inch sony lcd in the living room. but they had their own set of problems. the color is unnatural with too much saturation for a computer screen and the zoom fit is a well known probelm which required a lot of effort untill apple equppied os x with "underscan"

Jun 23, 2012I use a mini display port to HDMI to get the video and i use audio Y cable splitter for the audio.i can get video but not sound. If i disconnect the HDMI cable from the T.V. then i can get sound. If the HDMI cable and the audio cables are connected at the same time i can get video but no sound. I called Sony and according to them there is no setting on the T.V. that would help. My theory is that it's some kind of setting in the imac that prevents it from sending audio and video to the tv at the same time. Unfortunately i have not been able to figure it out.

Jun 19, 2010I am not getting much of anything in the proper area of this site. And since I am using a mbp I suppose it is fine to post this here. I have an all-in-one sony and I want to use it as an external display. So far, I hate screenrecycler because I can't figure it out and it seems like it's gonna be too slow. Anybody know of any hardware that I can use? Can it do it through any of the ports on my mbp?

It is connected to Thunderbolt port via DVI.Today I connected the MBP to a Sony TV using Thunderbolt port via HDMI, which worked. When I switched back to the external HP monitor, colors were reversed on the HP monitor (you can read the contents but the colors are mostly green and pink). The MBP internal monitor displays correctly. I've tried rebooting the computer, resetting the HP monitor to factory settings, and deleting the HP monitor profile. No change.

MacBook :: To Bravia TV - Only Images Comming Across Is Screen Saver
Mar 19, 2010I have a Macbook, and I just purchesed the mini dvi to (female) hdmi, then hooked up the hdmi cable from the adapter to the tv. The only images comming across is the screen saver. Aug 18, 2010I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
Hardware :: Powerbook With Broken Monitor - Force Boot To External Monitor?
Jan 31, 2010I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.
Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?
OS X :: Monitor Suddenly Goes Completely White / External Monitor Goes Black
Jul 30, 2005I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.

Jul 12, 2009I have a macbook pro from 2007, and I just popped into a tagsale and picked up one 2001 Mac Studio Monitor and a 2001 Fomac Gallery monitor.. So I was hoping to use the monitors with my laptop because the small screen on this laptop is KILLING me, and i'm not yet prepared (financially) to get a powermac.. Paid $10 for both of them..
my issue right now is, the monitor's cable doesnt match the input on my compuer. I need a ACD DVI clip cable.. Now, i looked them up and the price is $100! Call me naive, but i had no clue a connector cable would ever cost that much..
So basically, I am curious if there was a different option to get this to work with my computer OR if there is a place to get a used or "extra" cable
Power Mac G5 :: Reset Monitor Resolution Supported By Monitor?
Nov 22, 2007I have a G5 Quad with an Ati x1900 graphics card running into a 52" Samsung LCD. This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode. I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me. From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen. Would anyone know where these settings would be housed in OS 10.5.1 so I can modify (delete) them?

May 21, 2008i don't know what I did, but for some reason, new windows on firefox opens on my laptop monitor (instead of my 20 inch LCD, I am running dual screens).
1. I am running dual screens, but my EXTERNAL monitor is the primary one (top menu bar is on the external monitor)
2. All applications open by default on my main monitor, except for FIREFOX.
3. I have tried dragging the firefox window back to main monitor, both in spaces view as well as normal view, to no avail.
MacBook :: Using External Monitor With New MB (2.4GHz)/monitor Sleep?
Oct 16, 2008I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?

Nov 9, 2008Is there a way to use my external monitor as my only monitor when connected to my mbp? Or, can i clone my display, but at separate resolutions? I am able to do this on windows with nvidia software, is there software that allows further customization?
