Okay so i have a powermac G4, i just bought 2 512 sticks of PC 133 ram made for it, my computer isnt recognizing it at all, if i take out the original 128mb stick, and leave my gig in there, then when i push the power button i hear the ram chime error, if i stick the 128 back IN with the 512, then it boots up, but it wont recognize the ram, i have tried a PMU reset, NVRAM, PRAM, im really lost here.
I currently have a G5 powermac (and a macbook pro) and was looking to find out what cables I would need to get them connect to my TV. I have a 27" full HD LG tv which has these connections
- HDMI in - USB in - RGB in (pc) - DVI-D in (pc) - RS 232c in
There is a Powermac G5 available in my area for $450. Its a dual core 2.3 and a nvidia GeForce 6600 and he is including a 20 inch ACD. I don't know if its a great deal, but I think it would be great, because I could build something wild in that case later.
i need a free disc's to install on my g4 as it got 9.something on it i need 10.4 or lower ? i dont really now as i'm new to macs but i got given a macbook pro 10.4.10 install discs they are silver some one said they are surpossed to be black.
I recently bought a PowerMac G4 1.42GHz Dual Processor. It has 2 gigs of RAM on it. It was a fair deal I think. The "thing" is still looking like new and shiny. Even the insides are still tidy and intact. My question is, would I still be able to pump more juice from this beast. It still run fast comparable to some decent windoze box. Up to how much processor can i be able to squeeze out the CPU and if possible, how to?
I have a G4 Power Mac. It's the "digital audio" model that has been upgraded with a 1.2Ghz G4 processor. It works well except for one thing. It shuts down randomly and suddenly. Then after 5 or 10 minutes it turns itself back on, reboots and runs fine. (It is set to re-boot after a power failure.)I suspect what is happing is the power supply is turnning itself off due to some kind of a thermal, self protection switch. The fan seems to work but the PS gets warm. What's the cure? Replace the power supply? If so where to get a new(er) one?
I have a G4 PowerMac that will not boot up. I power up the computer and it stalls on a grey screen with text prompting me to type <<boot>> if you wish to continue...or something like that. Does anyone have any advice on how I might troubleshoot this? The computer was working fine for a few days before this occured. It has been unused and sitting is storage for a while.
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 1.8ghz running leopard. It worked flawlessly since the day I bought it.
Then as of last week whenever I booted the computer I would get the gray screen with a black box saying to reboot the computer (in 5 different languages). I would reboot the computer. Same screen.
Is there some way to check what is wrong? Is this typically a hardware issue or an operating system?
I was installing Tiger using FireWire from my Powermac G4 and it was nearly done when my Powerbook (target) died due to lack of battery... When the Powermac was rebooted, I get only a question mark and flashing smile.
I tried to test the C and T keys holding them down during boot up but only get the smiley face every single time... I even disconnected the secondary drive to no avail.
Please could you help me with this problem that i've got with my Powermac G5.
Spec is Dual G5 2gb ram
I'm trying to boot from the Mac OS cd (tried 10.4 that it came with and 10.5) and both get to the grey screen with the Apple Logo and that's as far as it gets. No spinning loading wheel.
Tried the following..
PRAM reset Swapping Ram out
Is there anything else i can do. It's a really good machine so i hope it's not needing a Logic Board repair!
Currently it is almost entirely unresponsive. I came to wake it from sleep a few days ago and it refused to wake. It is totally unresponsive to the power button on the Apple Cinema display and when the power button on the front of the tower is used the button lights up blue and then goes out. There is no fan activity or other sign of life. There is no burned oder or evidence of anything charred. It is a dual 1.42 MDD FW800 machine with AGP graphics. Model: M8570So far I have:
-Removed and reseated the graphics card, RAM and other PCI cards. -Removed battery and let it sit unplugged over night. -Performed PMU reset. (once)
At this point I have come to believe the power supply needs to be replaced. it is model: 614-0224 (360w). After looking online they are stupidly expensive, from $180 to over $500 each. I will be ordering a new MB (PRAM?) battery (Saft 3.6v LS14250C) and replacing that as well.
Questions: - Have I missed anything here? Is there any other explanation or method of troubleshooting I should try? - Is there any cheaper source for the power supplies? Why are they so absurdly expensive? Does anyone here want to give me a sweetheart deal on one? - Can anyone recommend a source for the LS14250C battery locally in Manhattan? Radioshack has it as an online only item and wants $15 for it.
Hey all, so Im pretty knowledgable when it comes to my mac but I just cant figure out why its running so slow. For example It takes about 10-12 seconds to open up firefox, thats just crazy.
I have repaired permissions, verified my disk, and even ran a techtools fullscan. Nothing seems to be working. Ive got 6.5 gigs off ram in this thing (doubt it reads it all), 150gig sys HD plus many externals for file dumping, and an ati radeon 256mb vid card plus the newest OSX.
What type of ram does the powermac g4 use? im looking into buying some and the about this mac just says sdram, but newegg has two different types of sdram. so what type does it use
I recently purchased from a friend a Powermac G4. It was running Panther (i Think). Because it wasnt running all too well, I decided to give Leopard a go.
I had an extra copy of Leopard lying around, so I installed it. It booted up fine, and was working, until I restarted the computer. Now it doesn't boot up at all, and I get a grey screen with a folder with the mac symbol and a question mark on it. What have I done? And how to I fix it?
I am now looking at the possibility of transferring the system into a G5 PowerMac Case. Why G5? Because they are cheaper than the Mac Pro cases and Mac Pro cases are even more rare than the G5 ones (in the UK anyway). Anyway, how difficult do you reckon this would be? I have been looking on InsanelyMac forum and it appears that the way to go would be to buy a removable motherboard tray from something like a Lian-Li case but what about the PSU/Drives/Cards, etc? What do you think? Is it worth the effort?
I have always been in love with the power mac G5's.so, I am going to sell my G4 mac mini to buy one. I was wondering if I would be better off buying a single 1.8 and buying 2 gigs of ram. or, buying a dual 1.8 and only having the 1gb of ram?
I was able to get this machine to connect to my wireless home network, yet I still get the "Server cannot be found" error. Have tried with the old IE program, then I downloaded an older version of Safari on my iMac and transferred it via disk to the PMG4. The safari loaded fine, a window opens, yet it will still not connect. There must be a setting I'm missing - can anybody tell me what it is?
I just tried upgrading my DVDROM to a DVDRW Drive but it wouldn't take. When I plugged in the new drive and started it up, I got the start up sound, but the screen stayed black with the orange power button. I assumed it didn't recognize the new drive, so I tried to put the original DVDROM drive back in. I got the same thing. Black screen, orange power button. This is really driving me crazy because I can't seem to get it around it. I would gladly keep the original drive in if it will keep my computer running.
I have a Power Mac G4 400MHZ 768 MB ram, I had OSX 10.4.11 installed on it and one day It got an error. a bunch of black text appeared over the web browser describing an error. I left the computer on for about an hour and when nothing happened I decited to restart it. When I started it up again the gray apple appeared but was soon after was covered by a black rectangle. so I decided to re-install the software. I keep getting an error about half way throgh so I decided to install my 10.2 cd's...that will not work either. i am not sure what to do.
I have an older Power Mac G5 Which is running OSX 10.4.11 and I procured a retail copy of OSX 10.5.1 Single Disc Install DVD. I tried to load it and it does not load and it appears to be frozen with a grey screen and the apple icon. I let it run for over an hour and nothing seems to be happening. [code]
My G5 2.3GHz has 8 2G DDR2 SDRAM PC2-3200E-288, but onely the first slot is a status OK.The other 5 slots he is giffing ECC-errors and the last 2 he don't see them (emty).
I have a PowerMac G5 1.8GHZ dual core with two GB of ram. I have read some posts saying that a cannon scaner, or an HP printer can cause the computer to not go into sleep. I have one HP 5550 printer If I unplug it, and restart the computer, then try to put it to sleep, it works sometimes. It will work sometimes with out the printer disconnected as well. I went through the Firmware on start up and reset all, and that seemed to work for a while. Now it will not go to sleep. It acts like it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and I hear the click of the Power Supply turning off, but right after that click the computer turns right back on.
I have trouble with my PowerMac G5. It doesn't boot any more. Booting from CD is also not possible. Sometime it boots regularly from hard disc, but the system crashes down after a few seconds after the login.
Information: PowerMac G5, MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Safari suddenly won't launch on my 10.5.8 system on my Powermac G5. The dock icon bounces for a few seconds then gives up. I haven't installed any new software recently.I've tried deleting all caches, preferences and plugins, repaired permissions, etc. It doesn't work when logged in on my spare account either.
