View 2 RepliesI need to free up room on my hard drive. I would like to delete all my .ipa apps. Can I do that? Â I have itunes match, and I also sync to icloud. I know when I want to reinstall an app I just do that through the cloud. I have deleted apps to test that this is ok but the apps end up getting reinstalled. Here is what I want to do:
1. delete all my .ipa files on my computer to save a lot of hard drive space (I have a lot of apps....)
2. stop syncing to my computer, and only sync to icloud
3. rely on itunes match for backing up music
4. have calendar and contacts sync through icloud
5. if I need to reinstall apps do that through the tab on the app store for 'purchases.'Â
Does iCloud save pictures shared from other devices to my hard drive? When I look for a picture on my hard drive, it's not there. When I go to copy the picture from iCloud to iPhoto, a pop up box asks me if I want to duplicate this picture or not. I don't want duplicates on my hard drive, but I don't mind having duplicates on the iCloud and the hard drive, combined.Â

This is what im trying to do. I have a macbook with 120gb hard drive. thats not enough space from my music collection. So i was wondering how to make itunes run off a external hard drive. I looked around and found was for a PC.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been running out of hard drive space and have deleted a whole bunch of files... even deleted all the languages i didn't need from all my applications... about a week ago i freed up around 2GB.... but without saving and downloading anything my free space is now 70MB!! All I have been doing is watching streamed videos and I notice this reduces the drive space as I'm watching it!! Even opening firefox and some websites drops my memory by 0.1MB. I can't find anywhere where temporary files might be so i can delete them.
I never used to have this problem but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I now use wireless internet through a phone provider and a USB modem rather than my previous WiFi via cable broadband. Can anybody shed some light on what is stealing my memory when browsing?
Last time I checked I had at least 6gb free space left, and over night, it went down to 0kb. I even deleted some things and it was up to 2gb. After awhile, it went back down to 0kb. I really don't want to get a new HD, because for some reason my Tiger disk won't read, so that's a little pricey there for both a new HD and Tiger.

Its my hard drvie, its NOT write protected, and I backed up all my PC files there so as to "Move to a mac" This mac will be useless if I cannot figure this out... what a pain.
It tells me that when I try to save it the hard drive is full or write protected, neither of which is true.... what could be the problem here?
I can't believe also there was no resident paint type program with the mac, and that you can't have tabs always open on Safari.
Also, I hate the way everything dissapears off my screen and I have to search through all the icons on the doc to find what I am looking for.... I really miss the start button with all my programs there for browsing... some things are definitly clunkier on the MAC..
I installed Lion yesterday, and now I cannot save documents or anything to my hard drive anymore. To create a new folder on my hd i need to put in permission, to save a word document it says, can't do! No space
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write protected. Try one or more of the following, free more memory, make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected or damaged. "

Trying to turn on FileVault I get a message saying:
There isn't enough space on your hard disk to turn on FileVault. Turning on FileVault requires an additional 132.2 GB of free space on the volume "Macintosh HD". Try emptying the Trash or deleting files you don't need.
Finder says that hard drive "Macintosh HD" has a capacity of 499.76 GB and that 180.42 GB are available. Am I to understand that to run FileVault I would need 312.62 GB (132.2 + 180.42 GB) empty on a 499.76 GB hard drive?! Seems crazy! Might this be related to Parallels 6 or something?
When you bought your MBP how much space did you have available out of the box. My 80 gig hardrive has a capacity of 74.21 and I never checked how much was used when I bought it. Reason I am asking is, I have 42.4 gigs left and I cant figure out where all that space went. I can account for 9 gigs worth of itunes music and videos, and maybe another 4 or so gigs of other stuff. What about the rest? How do I check if I have a HUGE plist file or something?

View 6 Replies View Relatedmy mac has about 250 GB of memory, 75 left available.
between music and movies 130 are accounted for, i dont know what i have on my computer that would take up almost 50 more GB.
When I bought leopard and installed it I was left with about 3 gigs on my hard drive so I deleted final cut studio 2 and Adobe Photoshop, however when I did this I checked my free space on my hard drive and it didn't free up anything and I know that it should have given me over 60 gigs of free space.

I have 120 giga in my hard drive and as you can see "Other"Â takes most of the disk space.
And these are my files and their size with take 49.22 giga of space, I don't see where is the rest of the disk space. I believe it is in the "Other" but how can I access it to free the not needed items.

I have a 13" MacBook, and I'm swapping out the factory-installed 120 GB hard drive for a 320 GB one. I have been using it with the 120 GB disk, and I want to make a copy of it on the larger disk before I swap them. I have a fairly good idea of what to do, but I don't want to risk losing data, so I want to check and see what the best way to do this would be.Here's what I was thinking: along with the new drive, I bought an external enclosure. So, I was going to put the new disk in there, connect it to the computer with the original disk, and copy a clone of the internal disk to it. I was thinking of using Disk Utility or Carbon Copy Cloner to do this (although I have never done that, so I'd appreciate it if you could walk me through making a bootable clone with either one). Then, once I essentially have two disks which are clones, I'll swap out the old disk for the new one (I know how to do the physical installation).

Ive always been a PC user until recently when i purchased a macbook pro. I have an external hard drive that i used to back up all my files including word documents & mp3's etc. I now want to use the same hard drive to back up files from my macbook but i dont want to make a copy of the entire drive (like with time line) i just want to save individual files. When i go to do this, a light grey circle appears with a 'cross out' and i am unnable to copy/save the file. In the past (with PC) all i have had to do is drop and drag to perform this function.

I recently purchased an external hard drive to store my Final Cut Pro projects, and what I would like to happen is that I see projects stored on my computer when the drive is not plugged in I would like to see the projects stored on my computer. If this is not possible I would at least like to be able to see the project stored on my drive and edit them Final Cut Pro. I only see the projects on my computer in Final Cut Pro even when the hard drive is plugged in and it has projects on it. I basically want to store my Final Cut Pro projects and be able to edit them on my external drive. (final cut pro 10.1.3 latest build of Yosemite)
