I'm doing a fake resum� for school, and I want two blocks of text on the same line, one left aligned, and one left aligned to the center of the page... but pages isn't letting me do so!
Is there a way to make it work? I tried making a separate text box, but it wasn't working for me, so I gave up.

I have one line of text. I want to align the first part of this line to the left, and the second part to the right. How do I do this in iWork Pages?
In MS Word, I would simply select the last part of the line and click the "align to right" button. But when I do this in Pages, it aligns the ENTIRE line to the right.
How do you control the margins in TextEdit?
I am trying to create a manual which includes some screen snaps which fit on A4 paper, but TextEdit persistently has fat margins and won't print the images that are wider than width allowed by the margins.
The screen grabs appear on screen but when I print the document the wider images do not print although they leave a gap in the text equal to their height.
I have:
Adjusted the preferences:
� for window width which is in No of Characters (how wide is a character when you are using rtf?)
� checked Wrap to window which shows a page view but the margins don't change
� I have created an entire new page in Page Setup with fixed margins and selected it but nothing changes
Mac Help says the margins can be altered by dragging the page margin markers in the ruler, but they will not drag outside what seems to be the default margins, This wouldn't help with top and bottom margins anyway.
I have tried using Acrobat PDF as the printer but again I get no further options and nothing changes.
I am at my wits end. TextEdit is almost temptingly useful except for the weird UI.
Whenever I use Preview (v 4.1) to print certain pdfs, it often cuts off the bottom line (eg page numbers, last line of figure captions) which is really frustrating. I know it's not the printer's problem because I can print the same document in Adobe Acrobat on my Windows side (via Bootcamp) without any cutoff. Adobe has the "center" and "fit to scale" options or smthg like that in the print window, which was checked. In Preview's print window, the print preview image looks just fine with no cutoff, but it never prints out that way.
I think the problem may be in the lack of proper centering and fitting to scale in Preview in contrast to Adobe. I read somewhere that Preview likes to scale the pdf not around the center (which would prevent any bottom margin cutoff) but around a corner (like the bottom left corner, leaving the bottom margin problem unchanged). I really would like to resolve this within Preview. I don't want to hav to download the bloated Adobe on my Mac side. Also I really like Preview except for this issue.
I am not sure if this is possible but cannot find an option for it;
Is it possible to adjust the header/ footer side margins independently from the main body's margins?
I know you can adjust the margins for 'header from top' and 'footer from bottom', but I would like to have my header to go right to the edge of the page instead of remain within the 3cm from edge margins I have set for the main body.
Another question if anyone can help is how can I write in a header say, Mr.Brown on the left hand side and on the same line, but on the right hand side, write the date?
how to make a vertical dotted line in Pages, I've been to Inspector and went to the T, then to Borders and Shading. It does let me make a dotted line but not vertically. Is there any other way to flip the line vertically or another way to make a line so it is vertical?

Is there a command line argument that I can use to turn to a specific page in a Pdf file either through Preview or Acrobat Reader? In Windows, this works easily (for example: robat.exe /A "page=123", "foo.pdf"), but I've looked everywhere for a Mac equivalent with no luck. I would like to avoid using programs like Pdftk that involve copying pages into newly created Pdf files.

I've recently transferred some excel files over from PC to my new imac and all is fine with the file, all formulas still work etc. My issue is printing. I've tried modifying this and that, but every time i do so it keeps popping up an error message saying "margins do not fit page" irritably frustrating!
If you try to print, it prints off like 300 pages (well try's to anyway) when it should be just 1...

When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.

I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.
Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?
Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?
I'm wondering if there's a way to eliminate the visual break in-between pages in Pages '09 (see screenshot). I'd prefer maybe a subtle dotted line indicating a different page, not a 5-inch gap.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create pages that have all black backgrounds. I've been doing this by using the Shapes tool, choosing a rectangle, filling in the entire white space for the page, which is 8x11, and then filling in with black.
The problem is that when I do this, Pages seems to think that I want this page and the following page to be connected, in some way. When I look at the two pages in the thumnail view, the yellow outline is around both pages, rather than each individually.
Anybody know how to keep this from happening. Or the right way to create full black backgrounds for pages in Pages?
My home page on MacBook Pro is NY Times. The home page does not fill the space. There are white space margins of approximately 1 inch on both sides of the page. Shouldn't the home page fill the entire space with no white empty margins? How to correct?

How much DATA do you have Oo-line?
This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.
And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?
For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".
i'm having some issues recording in garage band which should hopefully be easy to clear up. i record an instrumental track into garage band through the line-in jack in the back. the track shows up in garage band just fine and plays, but i'm running into trouble recording while that track is playing. i plug my headphones in so i can try to hear the track while i am recording vocals, but i am unable to hear the track. i checked the inputs/outputs in system preferences and output is set to headphones, microphone is set to line in. so i'm not too sure what it could be.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem since Friday with my Mac Pro (March 2009) and haven't been able to solve it.
On Friday my speakers suddenly stopped working. After first having confirmed that the speakers were working with another source, I tried headphones both in frontal headphone slot and with the analog line out in the back, both without success. There's a red light in the optical audio out, indicating that it's on for some reason, although I have selected different audio out source. The internal speaker works just fine, only the normal audio out doesn't give me anything.
I found a thread in the MBP section similar to this problem, but solutions for MBP didn't work.
I know that you can show facing pages using View>inspector>documents. But, this does not place the pages side by side, Is there any way that say page 1 and page 2 can be shown and worked on side by side so you do not have to scroll up and down to view them?

If I paste in text from a word processor, or quote someone else's message, I sometimes find that my text is 1-1/2 spaced or double-spaced. Can line spacing or leading be set or controlled from within a mail message?

I can tell the audio is coming in, as the input levels are reflected under System Pref's. But I can't hear the audio on the line-out speakers and there doesn't seem to be an option to explicitly route the audio.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to record my guitar using a regular 1/4" instrument cable and a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor into the line-in of my Blackbook. I go to System Preferences so the app uses the line-in and not the build-in mic. Under "details", it is set to record in stereo. It records fine and sounds good, but when I put on my headphones, the tracks I recorded only come out of one ear. The software tracks are fine (as are the tracks I've recorded via the built-in mic and a USB mic). Well, this really puts a hamper on the song. Is it just because regular Macbooks don't come with a very good sound card?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new toy (MBP i7 15" Hi-Res Matte) and it came with Snow Leopard installed. I'm coming from a Mac Mini with Tiger installed. Upon opening iMovie I was thrown for a loop by the way editing is done. It's completely different. I'm guessing some are saying "welcome to a few versions ago" but I'm looking at little bubbles for clips across multiple lines with colored backgrounds to indicate audio clips. I'm used to seeing video & audio clips stacked on top of each other at the bottom of the display and moving around with the playhead to make adjustments, fade audio in & out, etc. but none of this seems obvious with the new tools. Is there anyway to change the presentation of iMovie '09 so that I can edit in the old manner?
