It is possible to use the IMAP INBOX folder for sent emails in Mail.app? I configured Thunderbird on my Linux Machine like that, it is very useful to have this conversational view! Is it somehow possible to do that on MAC too?
Info:
MacBook Air (11-INCH, MID 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
For the second time in less than a month, all my older than 1 week emails disappeared from the inbox. The ones from Sent or from my "On My Mac" folders are still there, but the Inbox has only 20 or so emails. I have an IMAP account that worked great so far.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Apple's Mail program and also my school's webmail (outlook.com) in conjuction to check my school email. However, for some strange reason, my inbox on outlook.com will only hold up to 2 weeks of mail. My inbox in Mail will still be intact, yet for the life of me, I can't figure out why my webmail inbox is disappearing. I've checked every possible setting on outlook.com to no avail. I've also checked Mail's settings, but haven't seen anything as far as deleting older mail. BTW, we're allowed 25 gigs on outlook.com so they shouldn't be deleting them automatically.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.
When I check multiple messages for deletion in my IMAP inbox on my iPad or iTouch, I get an instant screen message: "Unable to Move Messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash." The selected messages do disappear from the stack but what is this message trying to tell me?

I'm on Leopard's Mail.app and I have two POP accounts and an IMAP account. I want to know how to eliminate the split between the IMAP server's email and the "On my mac" email. It wasn't there before, it only appeared after I recreated the account because someone cleared my web server and I had to recreate the account.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Mail.app 4.1 on a 10.6.1 MBP. I've got it pointing to an IMAP server. All is well.
I try to point my Mail.app 3.6 on a 10.5.8 G5 PM at the same server and it can't find the To Do items. In fact it's doing something very odd.
It finds the Notes just fine but what's it doing with the To Dos?
I had a question. Is there a way to use Gmail's IMAP with Apple Mail and configure it so that when the message is deleted on Gmail, It is not deleted in Apple Mail. I have wanted to convert to IMAP for a while but was always concerned with the possibility of Gmail servers accidentally deleting all of my emails and then would in turn delete all of them on my computer and I would have no backup copies of my emails anymore. I like to archive my emails but I like the performance of receiving emails thru IMAP over POP.

View 10 Replies View RelatedIt seems I have to change from using POP to IMAP but I'm not quite sure how.
I use Mail.app on my macbook. I have about 4 different email accounts, (2 for different employers, 1 for freelance work, and 1 personal) plus I'm in a couple of high traffic newsgroups.
All gets downloaded to Mail.app via POP access.
The newsgroup and junk emails get filtered out into their respective folders.
Other mail is filtered into other folders. Some gets to my inbox.
I want the non-newsgroup / junk mail to auto-sync with my iphone.
That means :
Appearing in the same folder in my iPhone and on my laptop
Reading mail on one device will mark it as read on the other.
Email sent from one device will appear in the sent folder on the other.
So it seems I need to change from POP to iMAP, but I'm not quite sure how to set it all up to deal with my 4 accounts and various folders. In Mail.app I have about 30 rules for filtering.
Do i need 4 different IMAP accounts?
I have a laptop an desktop both set to IMAP Gmail through Mail.app. However, my e-mails don't sync as read across the computers. For example, when I use the laptop all day to read e-mails and then come home to my desktop, everything is still shown as unread in my inbox.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving some trouble moving some of our accounts to IMAP.
Some people have very large accounts and we keep getting the error 143 time out message. Unless i sit there for hours and keep pressing the "Get Mail" button.
Is there a way around this and why does it keep timing out?
I was wondering if there is a way to configure Gmail IMAP for Mac Mail in such a way that I only get the new message (don't download whatever I have already), and when I press archive, it deletes them from my computer but saves them in Gmail?
Basically, my Gmail account is already around 6GB and I don't really want to have all of that on my hard drive
I have setup Gmail in Mail.app with via IMAP. I have successfully downloaded all the messages, but I have trouble sending email. There seems to be some sort of problem connecting to the SMTP server.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just set up IMAP within Applemail. I used to have a GMAIL account linked to the Appple mail but have since deleted this connection within GMAIL and disabled IMAP there to. I cannot delete the GMAIL tab as per the screen shot. Maybe Im missing something here?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've always struggled with Mail. I blame my confusion from going from Pop to IMAP. POP was simpler. Mail sat on server. When you used a POP connection mail moved from server to your computer. Imap is harder. Anyone have a good description (or link) on how imap works?
Here are my questions:
1. If you don't have a .mac account is there an easy way to keep Apple's Mail synched up on two machines? Is it as easy as keeping your mail folders (library) and apple mail plist file (preferences) synched up using a synch program?
2. When you open mail, with imap accounts it automatically goes to your account servers and seems to synch up the online version to what is on your computer. Launch Mail and in the activity window all sorts of things happen such as "synchronizing with server". This is before you tell Mail to "get mail". I'm wondering if the "get mail" is what puts a copy of emails on your computer or does just opening Mail with imap accounts do this?
3. If I had my choice, and mostly I do just use Google Mail online. However I want to have electronic copies of my emails for the day that the online cloud evaporates. Any easy way to accomplish this? I know there is something called G-Mail backup, but I wonder about it's functionality if I ever really had to rely on it. As of right now I'm using Mail for this purpose. Maybe Mail is the easiest way?
but I end up with sent items in my label/folders at least when I reply. So, for example, if I label an email "important" it ends up in an "important" folder. But if I reply, then the sent item also shows up in that folder within Mail. I know that this results from Gmail's use of labels rather than folders. It's not a problem in the Gmail/webmail interface because of the threaded display. But what I'd like to do is set a filter within gmail that basically strips any sent mail of all other labels so that when working within Mail I don't get the sent items showing up in the inbox or labels/folders.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just switched my settings in Mail so that I'm now checking my Gmail accounts using IMAP rather than POP. This has gone smoothly save for one thing: Growl now notifies me of every piece of Spam that comes into the Spam folder on the server. Is there any way to adjust this?
Likewise, Growl also notifies me about anything new message on the server, whether it's an e-mail I have sent (added to the server-side Sent Messages folder) and also takes to notifiying me two, three, or even more times for a single message (because it comes into the All Mail folder on the server and then into my client-side mailbox in Mail)
I am running IMAP in all 3 of my macs I access using Mail.app. The first two (call there 1 and 2) macs are running 10.4 and the issue I am having is with the third (call this 3) mac which is running 10.5. Heres the scenario
When I access a new message on computer 1 or 2, it marks it read on that computer, and then marks it read on the other 1 or 2 computer, but it never marks it read on the mac 3. If I access a new message on mac 3, it DOES mark it read on all macs. Is there a setting I have missed with mac 3?
I'm trying to setup leopards mail client to use with Gmail.
I want to use imap, the only problem is, I haven't deleted any email and i have about 4000 emails in my inbox. So Mail try's to download it all once it's setup.
Is there anyway to get it to only download the last 100 emails or so sort of like how the iphone does?
Everything is working except the fact that when I read a mail in gmail on my iPhone it doesnt mark as read in Mail. But, when I clode the application in OS X and re-open it, the mail changes status and is now mark as read.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy mail.app is setup using IMAP with my Gmail account. I've noticed that Mail.app randomly decides to download all the IMAP messages all over again at random intervals (could be a few days, could be a few weeks). I've noticed this behavior on both of my computers, additionally I know other people with this same issue. Does anyone here have this issue as well? If so, what is the problem?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have emails in my inbox , all from same person and email address, that show up under the "From" heading with different labels - or names, such as
Can I change these so all emails from one person show up with same name (makes searching for email by sorting 'from' more productive) ??
and what are these < > ? where did they come from
I'm using Entourage 2008 with an exchange server account and this morning it stopped receiving email into the inbox on my account.
Where I've set rules to move incoming emails into other folders these are still being received and re-directed, but anything that should go straight into the Inbox is not showing up.
Other mailboxes that I have added as Delegates are also functioning as they should and mail is coming into them ok.
I have access to Outlook via a VMWare image running Windows XP and there I can see all the mail coming in ok, so I am definitely being sent stuff.
Any mail I send (either from Entourage or Outlook) shows up in my Sent Items and messages I deleted in the Outlook Inbox show up in Deleted Items in Entourage.
I thought maybe there was a filter set that was restriciting the view of my Inbox to everything received yesterday and earlier, but I can't see anything. I've tried searching (both in Entourage and Spotlight) for messages I can see in the Outlook Inbox to check if they've been moved or filtered somewhere else, but they don't show up in any searches.
I'm now completely stumped! Everything was fine yesterday, but this morning nothing.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard (might only actually be since 10.6.1) my Gmail account set up as IMAP in mail.app keeps going offline with the following error message: quote: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account Gmail or try again. The server returned the error: Account exceeded bandwidth limits. (Failure) I am way under the Gmail quota. Has this happened to anyone else?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently set up Apple Mail with a new account, this new account is an IMAP account for school. The school has a bunch of public folders set up and I really don't want those public e-mails to be contributing to my "new mail" count or downloading to my computer AT ALL.
I searched the Mail help menu and it says that you can control which folders you can subscribe to by going into the "Get Account Info..." menu. However, when I got to the "Subscriptions" tab, none of the folders load. It's just an empty list.
