I'm looking for a program that will allow me to input the number of shares of various stocks I own, and at what price I bought them, and have it show me the current stock quote as well as the current value of my holdings. Anyone know of a program like that? Something that went on the dashboard would be perfect.
View 2 RepliesI've recently purchased some webspace to which I upload files via FTP and then link to the files I upload on my various blogs. With a view to simplifying the procedure, can anybody suggest to me a program into which I can drag & drop any file, have it upload in the background, and then allow it to provide me with a user-clickable url rather than an FTP link to the file? I've been using Transmit, which I really enjoy, but I can't seem to find an option to grab a url that's viewable to everybody. Despite me uploading the files to my public_html directory it just copies an ftp:// link, which is of no use to anybody, and I then have to go into my webspace client's file manager system online and grab the user-viewable url. I seem to remember a program like this existing, one that would sit up in your taskbar and be active and waiting for files to be dropped into it for upload at any time but i had no use of it back then.

I was looking at Web Secretary, but it's a *nix app that doesn't have a GUI and I'm not entirely sure it would do what I need. I would rather have something a bit more user-friendly anyway, and preferably free.
I've been looking for a good one for a while. Quicken for the mac isn't supposed to out for some time. I looked into some of the free options (iSquirrel), but they were disappointing. I've heard good things about iBank (http://www.iggsoftware.com/ibank/), but does anyone have any experience or recommendations? I really just haven't found an efficient way to download my online statements (OFX file support), categorize them, and view them in a line graph.

I'm trying to find something worth while that will let me view the multiple ip cameras at once, just grid up the monitor basically.
I've seen EvoCam from [URL], but it doesn't appear to be true multiple cam like i'm looking for, you basically have to open each camera in a separate window and arrange them on the screen each time.
I'm looking for something a little more "once i've set it, that's how it is everytime."
Looking for a basic app to monitor my home wireless network. I have a Time Capsule and have Macs and PC's using the network. Looking for app to capture URL's, emails, IM's, and other social network communications. Making sure the kids are not abusing their web access. I tried PacketStream but it is a little to technical for me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAt home I have about four laptops and one desktop computers. All of them use a wireless connection to connect to the internet. Sometimes, one of my siblings is downloading something huge or is downloading torrents or what not and it cripples the speed for the rest of us.
I also can't see if someone has managed to crack my WEP password and is using my connection (a neighbor or someone). Is there freeware that tells me who is connected to my network and how much traffic or data they are using?
Anyone know if there is an application that can easily browse windows/samba shares? Finder works okay, but I find it annoying that I have to mount everything in order to get to it. One thing I miss in Windows is being able to type / hostname somewhere and getting to the share. Now I have to open finder, open the network dialog box, type in the hostname and wait for it to connect. It'd be great if there was another application that would allow me to quickly browse to all these shares.

I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!
So two questions (I will try to write out as best as I can, hopefully it's understandable).
1: Is it possible that while I am on a business trip with my laptop that if I needed to access my network at work that I can remotely access it to view computers on the network with abilities to grab files from a computer, check things / alter things, and maintain. If so how?
2: If someone is on my network is it possible to see what traffic they are bringing in or out of my network without installing a file on their pc / mac to know the site they entered, file download, etc.
I am having a problem at work where someone (the janitorial staff?) is coming in and using the computers in my office without permission. I'd like to install some monitoring software to see who's doing it and what they are doing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe AFP and SMB shares provided by my machine (OSX 10.6.5) seem to be messed up. Specifically:
1) There are shares which are visible from other machines which do not exist in System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing
2) There are share listed in System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing which cannot be deleted
How can this be cleaned up? What drives the set of shares? /var/db/samba/smb.shares is clearly a generated file. What generates it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLooking for a recommendation on temperature widget. This new i5 is too hot to the touch on the top. Well I could hold my hand there but it is not fun to do so. So I want a good widget/etc that will give me an idea of how hot it really is. On a side note. I cannot hear the drive or fans in my new i5. For wow players, all options (including full shadows but no full screen bloom), it bottoms out around 27fps in heavy effects environments or fast spin in busy Dalaran.
Peaks are beyond refresh (in fact I may want to cap that). After a three hour session the top portion of the aluminum enclosure was too hot to keep my hand pressed to it so I am looking for something to convince myself I am not going to end up with a cooked iMac in a few weeks. Since my desk is in the center of the room there is no problem with air flow but I don't want to have to run the ceiling fan.
I'm just wondering if there is a bandwidth monitor widget that doesn't reset itself on a reboot. I feel like I've tried hundreds from the Apple widget download page, but all reset themselves. It's not vital that I know how much bandwidth I use as I've got unlimited broadband, but it would be interesting to see how much I get through in a week/month/year.
Is there a monitor that will allow you to view the bandwidth on an IP address you specify? I want to be able to monitor all traffic coming in and out of my router, but I can't find an App that does this either. All they monitor is my local IP address 192.XXX.XXX.XXX (Specific to my iMac). I have a static IP address with my broadband so can I monitor traffic flowing through that? Or would I just need to monitor the routers network and/or broadcast address?
I have cable TV streaming in through my Firewire port. What is a good program for viewing it? So today I decided to run a cable from our TV room to my laptop desk so I can watch "educational" programming. But I ran into a small problem:
CableVision to old VCR so I can make use of its built-in tuner, RCA cables from VCR to ADS (Converts inputs to RCA & Firewire out), and Firewire from ADS to MacBook.
This all works fine but I then realized I have no decent program to watch the video on. I can open Quicktime and see a small window, and no doubt if I hit record the sound would be captured as well but the sound is not audible while monitoring. I tried iMovie and again had a small window to watch. Still not what I want. So what can I use to watch the video from my Firewire full screen and with sound?
Recently I've been frustrated by having Mac OS X automatically downloading all software updates without asking. Sometimes I am on an internet connection where my downloading is limited and I don't want to be wasting the bandwidth on multiple updates that I don't need that urgently. I feel like earlier versions of OS X never started downloading the update without your permission to start the updating process. Is there anyway to ensure that the OS doesn't perform such tasks without having to resort turning off my wireless? I'm running 10.5.6 on a MacBook.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of shares on my NAS that I have linked in my login items, and when I log into OSX I get these on my desktop. The "server" is "afp://NASNAME(AFP)._afpovertcp._tcp.local/SHARENAME". This has worked great for ages, and all that happened when I logged into OSX was that these shares got an icon on the desktop. However, since the "upgrade" to 10.5.8, these shares open up when I log in. This is so irritating; I do not want these shares to open up, just to have an icon on the desktop. What "feature" did Apple screw around with, and what can I do to get back to status quo?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large collection of ripped (TV-on-DVD that i own) mp4s. I want to add these to my iTunes library (space is a non-issue). I import them by adding them to the "automatically add to iTunes" folder. iTunes auto-magically adds them to the "Movies" section. At this point i can group-select, hit cmd-I, and change them to TV Shows. Easy! The only other piece of meta-data I would like to add is the episode number. Is there a quick way to do this? Or do i have to hit cmd-I, add episode #, hit OK button, select next episode, repeat....?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, so I have been a life long pc user who recently bought one of the new unibody mbps. On my old pc I had a large collection of .mp3 files that i moved over to my mac. My problem is that on the pc I could easily edit all of the information by right clicking and going to properties. On my mbp I right click on the file go to get info but it wont let me edit any of the stuff in the "more info" section, like the year recorded, comments, album, or title. Is there anyway to do this? I am really ocd about how my music is organized and like it all to be the same. (seeing unorganized ipods drives me crazy) I know you can do this in itunes but i want to do it on the actual files so it is changed permanently.
