Is there a program like Shazam that I can use on OS X? I really don't want to go through parts of my library using Shazam on my iPhone if there is something I can run natively right from my Mac itself.

ways to use osx and its applications, besides keyboard and mouse.
I know about speech recognition. Recently I found about opera browser gesture-based internet surfing.
Maybe there are other programs that use isight in order to take commands from our face expressions. Of course, from hardware side, there is also trackball, tablet surfaces etc

Is there any alternative to the dock? On Windows, I love Objectdock Plus. It's more flexible than the actual Mac dock. Is there anything like this for Mac?

I've done a few (well a lot) of DVDs now with iDVD using avi files on my hard disk with a view to either giving as presents or watching with the family on TV.
We do not want to hover around my laptop to watch a movie In about 90% of these iDVD created DVDs I get an error message from iDVD that there was a problem during encoding and if we try to watch them throgh the TV/DVD player then the film just stops about 75% of the way through.

Does anyone know of a reasonable alternative to AdBlock for Safari? I would like an unobtrusive ad-blocking extension that is equally effective. I understand that it will not be officially supported, but that's fine so long as it doesn't compromise performance/security. AdBlock uses way too much memory and it cripples Safari, causing it to hang/crash repeatedly. You can find the bug report here: [URL]

I am looking for an alternative to iPhoto for viewing and organizing photos. I need something that allows for tags like iPhoto does and preferably something with a full-screen mode for editing.
My main problem with iPhoto is that it gets bogged down when you have imported thousands of photos. And I hate having to import photos on external drives before I can view them.
I've seen a lot of recommendations for Picasa, but I can't use that 'cause I'm on a PPC.

I'm a freelance journalist and want to start using software that will help me keep track of contacts, projects, outlying opportunities, etc. Daylite gives me damn near everything I want, but I cringe at the $189 price tag. Are there any alternative programs out there that provide the same sort of functionality for less cash? I've played around with the trial version of OmniFocus as well, but I can't figure out any way to have it store contact/client information and link clients to projects...and I really need to be able to do that.

I'm looking for an all-in-one app (preferable) or suite of apps that can handle business contacts, general note-taking, to-do lists, tasks a calendar, basic project management etc.
Big plus if it can also do invoices, but that's not required.
So Omnifocus and Things wouldn't really apply here because those are specific for GTD type stuff.
I've looked at Contactizer Pro, SOHO Organizer, and Relationship so far. Not crazy about any of them.

I just started using iTunes as my music database. For that reason I started to rip all my CDs. Much to my surprise iTunes doesn't find the metadata (for tagging) for a lot of my CDs. I know the data is on discogs and sometimes even on amazon. Is there a way to automatically retrieve the data from those alternative sources. Just like media monkey does? It is really annoying to manually tag all those CDs.

My father-in-law is considering switching to macs, but a deal breaker is whether or not he can continue to use his genealogy information. He's been using Family Tree Maker which is peecee only. I've read that Reunion is a good mac alternative, but will he be able to transfer his data from FTM to Reunion? What if anything would he lose?

I tried Flash and found it good, but too expensive as I'm not going to be using actionscript and any other advanced flash thing that's in it. I also tried Pivot stick figure animator (on DarWine) but found it too limited as everything must be made of stick figures.

I just got iWork 09, and while I am loving it, there is one feature that I greatly miss and use a good deal of the time. I NEED an equation editor. I really don't care if I have to export to an image, but I need something that will let me put equaitons in iWork. It also must be free, because I blew what money I had left on iWork, Airport Extreme, and an iPod case (yes I know, I went crazy at the Apple store). I only have about $20 left, and I am saving that to upgrade my RAM at some point. if you could please suggest something, I WILL try it. For now I will be using the equation editor from Openoffice 3.0 to do my equations, but that is hopefully only temporary.

I am a switcher and to be honest with you I cannot live without some of the Windows applications. One of such programmes is a tiny one called RapidUploader (an official upload manager for [URL]). At this time I am using RSUploaderX for Mac OS as an alternative, but unfortunately it is veru unstable and stops with uploading from time to time. Could you tell me what application you use for uploading files to [URL]? Is there a good programme as the official RapidUploader for Windows?

I would like to be able to buy from Amazon video, tv shows or movies and then import then to itunes. Amazon video will keep your purchases online and you can download and view when you want. Is there a way to import these type of purchase into itunes so can view on apple tv or iphone? If not amazon video, is there another opton that has an online library/storage system and allow downloads to be imported into itunes when needed ?

I find myself occasionally wanting to edit images, splice 2 or more images together, or just do some real basic photo editing and cant justify the cost of photoshop since I will NEVER use it to even 15% of its potential. What is a good (preferably free but under $25 is okay) app for osx that I can download?
