Applications :: Compare 2 Folders For Equal Content?
Mar 11, 2010
I copied a folder that's 276 GB big and has 432 files in it from one external HDD to another one. It tooks about 2 hours to transfer. Now just to make sure I looked up the folder information (⌘+i) of both folders.
Strange thing is, that the new folder is 7 GB and 4 files short! It didn't give me any errors while transferring and I don't have the time to manually compare every single file.
Is there an application that compares 2 folders and tells me what files are missing/different?
I have used an excellent program on the PC called "Beyond Compare" for comparing folders/files/content changes (such as on my site vs. computer, etc.) Handy when updating modified files on the site and keeping track of changes. Anybody have recommendations for a quality compare program for the Mac?
Is there some Lion-compatible Finder-like utility that will do the following? Display the list of files from two different folders, in parallel columns.Preferably display, too, such other attributes as you select (kind, date modified, size).indicate visually the differences between the two folders: -- (a) which files in the first folder are not in the second, and vice versa;(b) which files are in both folders but are newer in the first folder than in the second folder, and vice versa?
Obviously if a utility can list the contents of two folders next to one another, you could go through the two lists file-by-file. But that's not what I'm asking about.note that I am not asking about comparing and showing the differences between two files. Thus so far as I can tell, the following apps do not do what I'm asking about:Araxis MergeKaleidoscopePath Finder Path Finder, at least, can display two folders in parallel columns; but so far as I can tell, there's no way to get it to indicate what I ask in #3, above.

Clicking every playlist folder shows not what actually is there, but the whole library. For example clicking on Bob Dylan folder shows not his albums, but every song in the library, and the same is with every other folder?
I'm seeing a Raptor on sale at Best Buy for $160 Model: WD1500AHFDRTL. When I go to Dell online I see two Raptors for sale. One is WD1500AHFDRTL for $286, and the other is WD1500ADFD for $219.00. So what is the difference in models? One has a window into the hard drive, the other doesn't?
After reading through the entire gaming benchmark thread I still have yet to conclude whether the new i7 in hi res is better, worse, or equal to the 2.8 for gaming?
II discovered a very interesting anomaly with my mid-2009 13". I plugged my ipad in to syncs and charge, and the ipad said, "not charging." some research on the net yielded information that the iPad requires a higher powered USB port, which all late model macbooks have... All except mine apparently.....
So, I tried the other USB port, and low and behold, the ipad started charging. So the question is, is this the design of the MBP, or do I perhaps have a sub-optimal USB port?
My Applications and Documents folder on my dock dont seem to have the folders with there symbols on it, they seem to other material. How can I get them to show the folders. Im running on Snow Leopard!
As I want to buy a case, and I don't want to get the model number wrong, I just want to check. The Shop says that the case is suitable for MB466/MB467/ MB990/MB991/ MB374/MB375/ A1278.So, is MB347 the same as MC347 (Macbook Pro 13' Mid 2010)If not, does it matter if it isn't the model specified?
I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro with a display port that uses the same connector (presumably) as a Thunderbolt...does that mean this MacBook could access a Thunderbolt drive? Or not?
I've recently seen Sky HD on my parents set up and was wondering what is the difference in quality between iTunes HD content and Sky HD. I know they're both 720p but is there any major difference watching it on a tv?
I've been trying to backup my DVD. It has 8.1GB of content. I tried doing a disk copy before and it failed at the 400MB mark. Then I used Mac the Ripper and did a full extraction to my MacBook Pro. Then I used Titanium Toast 10.0.6 to try writing another CD.
This time it went farther but failed at the 27% mark. I don't know what to do. Do I have a bad batch of Blank dual layer dvds? I bought them at the apple store 3 years ago. They are made by Verbatim 8.5GB blanks. Any one know whats wrong? Below are screen shots of the error it giving me.
I updated MacJournal, and to my horror, see nearly all the notes in multiple journals BLANKtwo years worth of notes just gone. The page titles are still there, but no content. The data is critically important to my business. Where is it? How do I get it back? FYI: Ive been on the road for work, which means no Time Capsule backups for the past week. While on the road, Ive been constantly working on four pages in one Journalthese, plus maybe four others in different journals still show data. My guess is that restoring from an older backup will mean sacrificing newer data...which is not an option. Ive dug through Mariner Softwares forums and blogs, but cant find anything (other than angry posts from people saying Mariner is horrible about responding to problems....great. This is a nightmare.

Like it says. I don't want to use up 40GB on my MBP's HDD on just loops, but I do want access to all of them. I know I could install the entire Logic package on my external, but I'd rather have the application on my hard drive and the loops on an external.
I am currently developing an application which will be able to sync your iPhoto content with Flickr. First shot will be one-way, i.e. iPhoto will be the master and all images will be uploaded to Flickr and added to Sets. The application will use the capture date to keep track of images and so it should work even if you already manually uploaded some of your images. With this post I hope to gather some feedback on the idea.
I hope to have a version ready for beta test in a few weeks. If you would like to participate in such a test, let me know. My email: Here are a few more things for you to comment on:
1. Currently I sync everything, but I expect to have an option where you can filter out images which should not be synced. 2. Currently an iPhoto Album = a Flickr set. What about events? 3. Currently all keywords from iPhoto are added as keywords on Flickr. Would filtering be nice to have?
I've recently had my external hard drive stolen (police dealing with) which housed my iTunes content I've got all of my music on my iPhone so can easily get that transferred back onto my replacement ext HD, i've already come to terms with having to put another 6 months aside to re-rip all my DVD's to be viewable on my computer and ATV, which just leaves my purchased iTunes movies and TV Shows.
it seems for me that Safari 4 is very slow at loading content. Most of the time, i am on broadband, but when i go over my limit, i get shaped to a much slower speed. (Typical Australia ISP!)
I noticed that while Safari loads a page, on the bottom toolbar, it says....
Loading "Website" completed # of #.
for example, on "ninemsn.com.au" it can take me quite a while for the page to load, as Safari does not load the content until ALL or most of the content has been downloaded.
is there a way/plugin for safari 4 to load content AS SOON as its been downloaded? I would like to see my pages load immediately as soon as the content has been loaded.
Sorry for misspelling on title line. It should be --lose not loose. So it used to work just fine. I obviously did something wrong. Retracing my steps as follows:
1. Cloned my original single drive with iTunes and iPhoto data already on it. Clone worked same as original-just fine.
2. Then took new SSD-formatted and partitioned and did clean/hybrid minimal OSX install plus transferred applications, library and home onto new boot drive-about 28GB.
3. Then took larger SSD formatted and made 2 partitions-one for iTunes 160GB and 2nd for iPhoto 80GB.
4. Used drives in external enclosures to test. Could not get any iPhoto picture data to show up after unmounting and iTunes has the content, but after unmounting iTunes (along with iPhoto since on same SSD) all database (album artwork, etc) disappears when I reboot and go back to either Application-iTunes or iPhoto. What did I do wrong?
i need to return my iMac to service so it's time for me do a latest backup and my question, is there a way to do backup of whole disk but when restoring only the content without the system because this is a great opportunity to do a fresh install of snow leo.
When replying an Mail, I cant see the original email any more, just a white page as with a new mail.Instead, I have to forward the email and copy all the addresses if I want to have the originals and it's so uncomfortable.
Everything has been working brilliantly until last week.
I have a first generation Macbook that's starting to get long in the tooth. I keep hearing how the MBA sometimes feels sluggish... and I can understand how it would compared to the new aluminum MBs and MBPs. However, I would imagine it would be a fair bit faster than my old white MB. Am I right in assuming that... or am I way off?

Here's what I need and I'm not sure how I'd do it so I thought I'd ask, since I'm new to macs. I have a hard drive with mp3's on it. Each artist has it's own folder with their albums located inside. What I want to do is print or compile a text file [or whatever you recommend] just the Artist folder with another folder to determine what Artist's I'm missing on the one hard drive.
this is what im currently goin with.. SSD as boot/apps and a 1TB for data.. but a couple people suggest 1TB drives in raid.. 1. what do I need for raid? 2. how does it compare against the SSD+1TB setup? 3. can I add raid to the SSD+1TB and get more 1TB drives later?
As a DJ, I rely heavily on iTunes' file-viewing options "Date Added" and "Date Modified" in order to gauge how old files in my collection are. However, each time I move files from my computer to my external, 'date added' and 'modified' reset. Clearly 'moving' files to an external is really copying them to an external, but maybe there is a way to copy library content while retaining or freezing the iTunes library's DATA connected to the content....? Is there a way to get iTunes to realize that the identical files previously on my computer are on the external with respect to 'date added?'
I created a word document all texts not any picture and saved it. Later on I came back and opened it all texts were changed to symbols. Is there any way how can I recover it to bring it back to normal.
