Applications :: Can Use Photoshop CS3 For Mac Mini
Oct 14, 2010
Beginning Photography school and we are using Photoshop CS3. I currently have a PC laptop, which will not handle photoshop. I am looking to get a Mac Mini and was wondering if Photoshop CS3 will bog it down too much or will I be ok. Which Mac Mini would you recommend?

I have only recently started using macs but I have been quite enthused by the experience. So much so that one of my friends is considering purchasing a Mac Mini. He wants to run Photoshop on it and (like me) is about to buy CS3 basic. If he hates the mac adobe will apparently let him cross platforms back to windows for a small fee. Also will he be able to run boot camp with XP fairly well or is the machine too small to allow this? He will buy the beefier of the two and with 2gig of ram.

I have Photoshop CS2 on a Mac iBook G4. I also have a Mac Mini. Can I transfer CS2 to the Mac Mini? I want to do this so I can upgrade to CS4 on the Mini. I don't believe it's possible but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'm looking to get a MBP, but since i can't swing the $3k+ for it (laptop, warrenty, accessories, and software) I want to get a mac mini. How well does it run the Adobe suite? can i hook it straight up to my own vga / dvi moniter? will my standard windows keyboard / mouse work with it, usb? Where is a good place to find benchmarks on this product?

I am poised to make the change from PC to Mac. However, I have a decision to make. I am currently running a 3ghz QUAD core, 8gb RAM with Windows Vista. The system runs well (yes, even though it is Windows) but I wish to move to Mac and ditch the Windows world. I plan to use Logic Pro so need a Mac. I have 2 x 24" monitors that set me back 700. I was thinking to keep those and perhaps buy a Mini Mac. The mini Mac can support 2x displays.
My big question is this: If I went for the 2.66Ghz Intel Duo Core Mini Mac with 8gb RAM, would this tun Logic Pro without any problems? Would it also run software like Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / Premiere without hanging or being very slow? Who has a mini Mac and currently has these softwares installed? Please advise? Should I simply sell everything and go for an iMac?

I run a MacBook (White) 2.16 Ghz 2007 model, which is running x64 Snow Leopard. When I open Photoshop CS5, the splash screen shows it is x64. So I wait for it to load, and based on Apple Developer news and articles, you can't have a 64-bit Carbon framework application. I knew that with Carbon framework applications, you can't drag a window around by its titlebar when it's not responding, or frozen. With the 64-bit enabled Cocoa framework you can. When it was loading, I tried dragging the titlebar, and it wouldn't work, so I thought maybe it isn't 64-bit after all. I inspected the program with Xray, and it told me it was Carbon. I was confused. Is Adobe having the Mac users on or is just my computer playing up?

So I have CS4, and it's been wonderful on my new 24" iMac. After the latest 10.5.6 update, it started giving me this message every time I open Photoshop:
Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for latest software.
GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences.
This never happened before 10.5.6. A coincidence? Or did something change? Why does it keep giving me this message?

I am having a problem with Photoshop Elements 8. The software will not open on my iMac for it says that I am missing applications or something around that ballpark. Once I come home from my gf's house I will be able to give you guys/girls the exact message I get when trying to open PSE8. I do not know if the PSE8 is compatible with my current iMac due to its model/year/specs etc. I purchased my iMac around the year of late 2006 early 2007. Should PSE8 be compatible with my iMac or not?
I believe it should, but yet I do not know the reason why it will not open. I recently purchased the Bamboo Pen & Touch for my gf and it came with the PSE8 software. I Installed the PSE8 on her iMac (Which she purchased the Black Friday that passed.) But before installing the PSE8 on the iMac, the Bamboo installer was installed first. Maybe I need to install the Bamboo installer before installing the PSE8 software that was included with the Tablet product?

I have PhotoShop on my Mac at the moment, but don't really do much with it - just the basics like cropping, resizing etc. Was thinking of swapping over to Pixelmator instead - it seems much easier to use with plenty of online tutorials.

I would like to uninstall Photoshop Elements 3 as I have CS2 now. I checked Adobe web site; but their site does not say if I can just drag the folder icon for Photoshop Elements to the trash can or not. Do I need to go through the proper uninstallation step for this? Or, can I just drag it to the trash can?

Is anyone running PhotoShop Elements 4.0 on Leopard? I installed Leopard last week only to discover that PhotoShop Elements 2.0 won't even launch anymore. Adobe says Elements 4.0 isn't designed for Leopard. But, I'm now desperate for photo editing software. I've got about 5 years of learning invested in PhotoShop Elements. So, I'd prefer not to have to learn a new package.
I'm going to try out Acorn to see if I can get it to work. I downloaded Pixelmator. It looks sharp! But, the brother who designed it seem to have gone missing and their forums report many and major bugs when running it on Leopard (even though it was supposedly designed for Leopard). I just need basic functionality to save pictures for my website. Just a lasso tool to drop out the backgrounds, change the contrast and brightness and to be able to save to .gifs and jpegs.

I just bought a new Canon LiDE 600F flatbed scanner and have set it up and installed the driver disc. I want to be able to import documents and photos directly from the scanner into Photoshop CS, however when I select "File>Import>CanoScan LiDE 600F...", instead of taking me to the default Photoshop scanner preview window it opens up the crappy "ScanGear" from-the-disc software, which I don't want.

How to deactivate Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac? I want to uninstall PSE 6 but the uninstaller tells me to deactivate PSE 6 first. However, there seems to be no option for deactivation in the applications installed with PSE 6 (i.e. PSE 6 for Mac itself, Bridge CS3, Stock Photos CS3, Adobe Help Viewer 1.1). I have tried to search the web and Adobe's knowledge base... with no luck. Search in PSE 6's internal Help returns one result for 'deactivate' - but it's something about editing pictures. There's no 'Deactivate...' under Help menu.

I have a 2006 MBP 2.2Ghz with 128mb Nvidia 8600M graphics card. I installed a trial version of Photoshop CS4 back in November, and was able to use the OpenGL effects of zooming in and drift-moving the canvas around. However, having installed the full version earlier last month, I've noticed none of these features are enabled, and in Photoshop's preferences it claims I need a new video card or driver. My drivers should be up-to-date, as I've installed all Apple's firmware and software upgrades via autoupdate.

I just downloaded Photoshop CS4 trial and created an image. I am trying to print it but the selection is grey'd out. If I open an image from my HD it will allow me to select print, but not from something I have created in the trial. Is it as obvious as just being the fact that it is a trial or am I missing something here. I have tried saving it as a .tif and a .psd as those are a couple of the very few saving options available.

I've been having a particularly peculiar problem lately with Photoshop CS3: Every time I try to use it, it immediately crashes. I'll open it, the splash screen will appear like normal, and everything appears to be OK. Then, when I go to do anything, (like opening an image, creating a new one), Photoshop crashes. This is not a sporadic problem, nor is it a random one. It happens every time! I have not had my precious Photoshop for a couple of weeks (since about Mid-February).
I'm using a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I'm not sure if this is the culprit, but I've heard some buzz that Security Update 2010-001 (which I have installed) is causing problems with CS3. So far I've ruled out Dropbox, Displaperture, FinderPop, issues within my account, and disk permissions; and I've reinstalled Photoshop outright (granted, it didn't wipe out my pref's or licenses). The exact same problem has happened to several other people I know, and the only thing in common is that we a) use Photoshop CS3, b) use Snow Leopard, and c) keep our systems up-to-date. Furthermore, I do some Cocoa development, and every time my application starts, I get errors in the debugger console about loading Adobe's Applescript extensions.
