View 1 Repliesin trying to record old cassette tapes into my laptop - macbook pro circa 2011. There is no input port other than USB! Question . . . is there an audiocable (3.5mm) to USB? Does it need an audio interface? Then . . . if they exist . . . how do I do it?

I would like to convert at least some of my thousands of hours to audio tapes to CD's. It would be a blessing if I could do something about the sound quality, compile songs, etc. I've downloaded the version of "Audacity" that matches my PowerPC G4, and it seems like it will do a lot of what I want. Now, the question is, how do I get a signal from my tape deck that my Mac will recognize? Will it be enough to simply use a RCA/USB connector, or do I need some kind of converter? I notice, btw, that I do not have an "audio input" jack, which might have answered my question.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAllow me to explain exactly what I am trying to do: For those who don't know, there is a trend on YouTube where people post vids of themselves playing video games. These are (usually) called "Let's Plays" and I have recently gotten sucked into it. I'm currently trying to record a "Let's Play" of a PSP game. There is a way to output a PSP display to your PC using a homebrew app called RemoteJoyLite. Sadly the app is Windows only and it doesn't look like it will get ported anytime soon (I've looked into doing a port myself as the source code is out there, but it uses DX calls throughout and not sure how to convert them to OpenGL calls). I have recently gotten it to work in a VM (running Win7 x86) though.....................

I tried running a simultaneous audio recording, but it doesn't recognize the audio coming in with the video as an audio feed. I'm using Quicktime X on a Dec. 2007 macbook running Snow Leopard. I know the Mac has a screen recorder, but the problem is it doesn't record onboard audio in addition to the screen recording. I've also tried the audio recording stuff and it just doesn't work.So are there any programs out there that can record audio AND video at the same time, in one file, on the Mac? I've tried the AudioHijack and Audacity stuff, but it's impossible to sync it with the screen-recorded video

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy built-in external mic doesn't record any audio when recording at all with the webcam. I've seen that this problem happens a lot in iMovie and Photo Booth, but my problem is a little unique, in that it doesn't record audio when recording with any program, not just Photo Booth and iMovie. I've tried QuickTime and even YouTube's webcam capture option, to no avail.Â
However, the most puzzling aspect of this is that I know for a fact that the built in external mic is functional, because I can make video calls from Skype without any problems.

I've done a lot of research on the best method to convert old 8 MM tapes to DVD. I don't have a working 8 MM camcorder anymore, but have lots of old tapes with family footage. Apparantly some Digital8 Camcorders can play back old 8 MM tapes, and then can be transferred digitally to my computer via firewire cable to iMovie or Final Cut Pro. This is what I would prefer to do. However, has anyone done this with a specific camera? I've read that not all Digital8 Cameras play back old 8 MM tapes. Some people say you can't even do it this way. I would like to do this myself so that I can edit my video.
