I tried to capture the video camera (Sony Handycam 2007) on to my iMac and it wont open till I need to install the sofeware MPEG file so where can I easy to download the free software on internet?

So my problem is I just got a macbook and I am transferring my files from my pc to my mac. My old sony handycam videos on my mac will not transfer. It says on my mac that "this is not a movie" and cannot be played. I have tried saving a video to a flash drive and doing it that way but no luck. I have figured out how to download videos from my handycam to my mac. I just need help getting my videos from my pc to my mac. Do I need to convert them to a different format? I am getting rid of my pc and am desperate to get these video's off. Also my burner is busted on my pc so I cannot just burn them either

iPhoto detects my camera and will import photos, but seems the videos are coming up as incompatible.
How do I download video from a Sony NEX-VG10 Handycam? It says it wont download on a Mac, and to contact Apple. The odd thing is, that it has Registration for MAC.

Plugged in my Sony camera which has worked with the old G4 Quicksilver for the last 4 years. iPhoto didn't open, so I checked Image Capture, which says "No device connected"... Checked leads, restarted etc, still the same.
Took the MemoryStick out of the camera and put it in a card reader and iPhoto opened immediately.
Swapped USB sockets. Checked System Profiler; no camera shows as connected.
Any suggestions as to how to get the Sony working again from its cradle? It seems to be connected in the cradle because it's charging OK.
I just discovered that my MAC does not support my Sony handycam. What do I need to do for my Quick Time Player to run the video I shot with my Sony.

I just converted to a 2007 Macbook (wife's old comp) and was using Sony's PMB software with my PC (Windows XP SP2). I know that I can use iMovie '08 to import the files but they are HUGE. I assume it's because PMB imports in AVHCD format and iMovie uses .MOV? Is there another program I can use to import my files. I don't want to waste all my hard drive space importing a few movies.

Anyways, he finally decided to get a mac (probably b/c he likes my mbp so much ) Well, tonight we realized that his Sony DCR-SR82 60GB Handycam Camcorder is not compatible with a mac. I guess Sony uses "muxed" video which means it is mixed together instead of having seperate video and audio tracks. I have got the run around from a whole bunch of sites and I need help.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm tryin to transfer video from my Sony DV camera to my iMac, but neither iMovie not Adobe Premiere cannot recognise the device. They both automatically select my iSight camera as the one and only video source.
When I check the Firewire status in System Profiler I get the message: "Unable to list FireWire devices".
I have tired restarting the software, unplugging the camera, unplugging the firewire cable, restarting my Mac but still no result.
I spent a considerable amount of time Googling for solutions but have not come up with anything that helped. I have also tried unplugging all other USB devices, restarting the machine, trying again, but still the same issue.
The weird thing is that about a year ago I managed to capture video just fine from the camera into Premiere without any problems.
The only thing that is different now, is that I have Windoes XP installed on my Mac as well. Could this be an issue, with XP "stealing" my firewire connection in some manner? I'm not sure how this would be possible, but I suppose it could be...

iMovie is version 8.0.6 and Premiere is CS4. As I said, I had managed to capture video using the same equpiment about a year ago and the only difference now is that I also have a partition on my Mac with Windows XP (Service pack 3) on it.
Of course, the cable itself could be faulty, but since it hasn't been used in over a year, I doubt that's the issue. I still wanna try anything else, before I buy a new cable.

I have a camera with RCA style jacks for power, audio and video. The red RCA jack is used for power, and has its own power supply. Yellow and white RCA jacks provide video and sound, and which I connect to my VCR Input jacks.
I would like to capture the camera's output into my computer.
Do you have a recommended product for this, or link to read about my options. My computer is not new, which may be a complication. But I have a couple of empty bays.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to capture about 30 hours of DV tapes from my camcorder using Final Cut Express on my new iMac and was hoping to find the optimum configuration for doing so.
I'm using the Firewire port to connect to the camcorder. So then the question is: which hard disk to use for the capture scratch? Since the iMac has only one Firewire port, and that's used for the camcorder, the only choices are the internal Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive and an external drive connected via USB 2.0.
I wanted to avoid using the internal drive because it's the system drive and especially to avoid the significant internal heat build-up, but when I connect a 7200 rpm Seagate FreeAgent disk via USB, I'm consistently getting dropped frames.
So I've resorted to using the internal drive for now, and when I'm done, I may copy/move them off to the external drive, but I still would prefer to capture directly to the external drive (without the dropped frames though).
Is there a way to capture a still frame from a video? From an in-site movie, from You Tube, on iMovie, etc. I want to save some stills and insert them into a document or in iPhoto. I'm on Mountain Lion 10.8.5 ...
