I'm very disappointed in this app. For several reasons. A few of them are:
1. It randomly zooms in and out and moves around when you don't want it to.
2. When you try to go to places outside the country (like Nepal or Thailand), everything is blurry when you try to zoom in on any area.
3. When you click the "Zoom In" or "Zoom Out" button, it often zooms all the way in or out - instead of just one click level in or out.

Anyone else experiencing crashes with GE 5.x? I downloaded it last week and it ran fine. Did various searches and it looks nice. Now when I run the app it crashes on the last search. I've deleted and reinstalled the app a number of times but still crashes. Weird part is it is retaining my last search and I can't find any preference file that it may be using. Anyone else seen this behavior or know of the preference file(s) to delete?

So I mounted the app today and on the left is the Google Earth icon that you install in your app folder, while on the right is the Web Plug-In version of it. Apart from accessing Google Earth through an app VS. through web browser, is there any other difference? Why should I install web plug-in as opposed to the app?

I downloaded the Google Earth 5 dmg and clicked on it to mount it. But I got a window with an error message saying the dmg was not recognized. It would not mount. I deleted the GoogleEarth plugin and the GoogleEarth Plus plugin preference files but still could not mount Google Earth dmg.

I've noticed this really strange problem with google earth. I've had it installed and running fine for a number of years on my computer (leopard), but maybe a couple months ago, I noticed a google earth dmg will randomly mount on my desktop, appear for a few seconds and then disappear. This happens like maybe once a week. I have tried desperately to find the file that is mounting in order to delete but I cannot. I also tried uninstalling google earth and then reinstalling.

I have searched the threads for an answer, but found none for my issue. I downloaded the new Google Earth app to our new iMac (20", 2.4Gz, 2Gb). It started up fine and looked OK at first. As I zoomed in, the images began to fragment and scramble. The closer I go, the worse it gets. I tried adjusting settings and preferences in both the app and on the iMac. Nothing seemed to work. Any ideas? Oh, it was the latest version, 4.2 something, with the sky images.

I recently re-downloaded google earth after I deleted it a while ago. So after downloading it and opening Google Earth I notice that it is quite slow and not nearly as fast as it was when i previously had it. My macbook is a White one with a Core 2 Duo processor and is a late 2006 revision. So does anyone here have any suggestions on why is it slow. I am also wondering if it could be my hard disk, but I doubt it since I haven't had any crashes and I have been staying at a steady amount of space for at least a month.

I am considering making the switch from PC to Mac. The desktop switch is easy, I would simply replace my Dell with an iMac, but I also need a portable computer, running OS-X not iOS, to replace my ageing netbook, running debian. I will be using it for Internet access, light audio editing and streaming with Audacity, QuickTime and VLC (Ogg, FLAC, etc), some light spreadsheet work (I will switch to Numbers), heavy writing (I will switch to Pages), Sykpe, iCal, and Mail, but most importantly: I am a very heavy user of Google Earth and Google Maps. I am currently looking at the entry level MacBook Air 11.6 as this has a footprint similar to my netbook, but is far thinner and lighter. I rarely use my netbook for more than a couple of hours so battery life is not critical.
I have searched the web and here on MacRumors but I cannot find anyone who has installed Google Earth on the entry level MacBook Air 11.6. I would like to know how it handles navigation, elevation, layers, and streetview? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have found the system requirements for Google Earth (below), but I would like to know how it actually responds in real world use on the entry level MacBook Air. Google Earth Minimum Requirements: ......

Just seen that Maps, by Google, is offering an 'Earth View' I downloaded the plug in but am having trouble installing it. I have the .dmg file which when i open shows me the plug in as a sort of Lego brick and states I must double click to install. So i double click. Nothing appears to happen, but i assume it has and go back to Google Maps which tells me i still need the plug in! Please tell me how to manually install plug ins or what could be wrong with my poor mac.

I'm a brand new member, having acquired a 1st Gen Mac Pro 4x2.66/4GB/4x750GB-HD system at a corporate fire sale and just upgraded it with an ATI 3870 / Accelero cooler. The nVidia 7300 P.O.S. card that came stock in this system was noticeably choppy in Google Earth. I was hoping the ATI 3870 upgrade would put that issue to bed. It didn't. When viewing Manhattan Island with 3d buildings on, it is as choppy as the Gulf of Mexico during an ill-fated fishing trip. But the 4 cores aren't really that stressed - I have iStats Menu installed and they are not maxed. I'm trying to look to the future with this video card purchase (Snow Leopard will support the 3870 for OpenCL operations). Other things seem to be smoother, but I was really looking for better performance with Google Earth and other graphic apps (iTunes visualizer, Core Image demos, etc.) What happened? I'd like this Mac to be somehow faster than my Windows XP box with a Core 2 Quad and a 9600GT card, but it is not so.

Have OS X 10.5.6 on an new Intel IMac 24. When I use Google Earth or run X-Plane I see these random polygons/lines appear as i move the mouse. All other applications seem to be okay. anyone else seen this? Apple support say they know of the problem but there was not sufficient momentum to look into creating a fix.

To start my computer is a early 2008 Penryn MBP with the 2.4 C2D and a 256mb 8600M. Today I was trying to show something on google earth, but once the app started, I could not control the map, it would just freeze. Once I was able to zoom in, but it would not do anything, it would zoom in on pixelated junk. I tried reinstalling it, but no dice. I thought there may be something wrong with how the data is streaming, but it works fine on my hackintosh and my iphone. This got me thinking about the well-known faulty 8600m.
I have, on rare occasions, had some screwy issues with my display, like some pixelation and difficulty getting the display to work after sleeping, but these have been few and far between. I was curious if all this could be related to the GPU, and if there is anything I can do to test before going to the apple store and complaining how my google earth won't work (I am still covered under applecare). I don't game, so I have nothing of that sort to try out on it. I did download and run cinebench, and it gave me an open GL score of ~9.4fps.

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Encountered problems opening a .MOV file attached to a Mail email. The file crashed. Now, none of these files will open: Mail, Safari, itunes, iChat, Google Earth, Skype. The icon bounces ONCE, then...nothing. At first I thought it was only internet-linked applications, but I am able to run Firefox browser, as well as open other applications that don't link to the internet, .I have opened similar MOV files from the same source before, and no problems. Â
