MacBook Pro :: Possible By Making Buttons Under Erase File Not Clickable?

Sep 11, 2014

My Mac has a virus or has been hacked and it says I have no airport card so I can't get on the internet at all, it won't let me even turn on the airport. Also I thought it would be good to do a factory reset but it's also making that not possible by making the buttons under the erase file not clickable.

MacBook Pro :: Spilled Milk - Buttons Held Down Making Tone

Mar 7, 2010

Last summer my wife and I purchased a Macbook Pro that supposedly had milk spilled on it. I'm technologically inclined enough to know that it was a very good deal. So we bought it to be used as her main computer because she doesn't do much beyond managing her iPhone, Facebook, and word processing, like most College Students. At the time I thought my Macbook was more than adequate but I've come to realize that there is a substantial difference between the two machines. I'm going to college as well for video production and I've not noticed the difference until I edited on hers while mine was in the shop. Anyway, long story short, I want to really get her computer repaired and trade her, which she's fine with she thinks my Mac is 'cuter' anyway... So I now realize this whole first little bit was unnecessary but nonetheless I'll leave it.

It has a few issues but functions perfectly as a desktop computer, we have a bluetooth keyboard & mouse for it. I really want to make it more mobile. But here's the list of the issues:
1) The 'o' and the '0' button do not work at all.
2) When you first turn it on sometimes it makes the tone that button is being held down and if you put the cursor in a text box it continuously types ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo until you hit backspace on the computer then it's totally fine.
3) It doesn't totally go to sleep. Even if it's closed you can still blatantly hear the hard drive clicking back on like you just opened it every minute or so and if you tell it to go to sleep while it's open it'll wake itself up within a minute.
4) When it's unplugged and not off the battery lasts less than 2 hours at best with an average of about an hour.
5) and the back lit keyboard only really glows in the middle of the keyboard supposedly where the spill occurred. The other keys do glow but not nearly as bright.

I think that's about it. I've taken it to the local Apple Store and they said that I can get just the keyboard replaced for about $150 then if there's no major damage we can send it off to get the other issues fixed because it's still under warranty until next July. However with the liquid spill that voids it which I'm sure you know. But if they crack it open and it's all nasty then they won't do anything and it could cost up to $1,200 to fix which is still a much cheaper deal for a machine with the same specs. I also have a 500 GB hard drive waiting to go in this bad boy. It's a Late 2008 15" MacBook Pro Model A1260, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB Memory, GeForce 8600 at 256 MB. Hope my descriptions where good enough I have a feeling that the milk spill has affected the logic board which is a hefty fee. And I plan on taking to to the Mac Authorized dealers here in town, like Mac Authority, to see if they'd be cheaper.

Why Does Mac OX 10.6.8 Keep Making Copies Of File Anytime Download / Copy / Move File

Feb 25, 2012

Why does Mac OX 10.6.8 keep making copies of a file anytime I download, copy, or move a file? It will copy, dowload or move the file, then begin making copies until I reboot. This makes it impossible to deal wit hfiles unless I want to spend a lot of time rebooting after every time, then deleting all the redundant copies.

Intel Mac :: Erase A File That Says It Cannot Be Deleted?

May 29, 2012

I have a file that suddenly appeared and it says that it can not be deleted.  I dragged it to the trash and the exact message is:

The item "7702D020" can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted.

I tried unlocking it.  It does nothing when I try to find the info.  It says that it is an Excel file and I can not open it either.  I am afraid that it is a "nasty" type file.  Malware or something along those lines.

OS X :: File Permission Of "-rwxr-xr-x" Making Application Impossible To Read The File?

Dec 30, 2009

The first batch of videos was copied to an external drive from a Windows PC with MacDrive installed. When I came back to my Mac, I plugged the external drive into my Mac and moved those files to my hard drive. The second batch was copied using Connect to Server command right from my Mac.The funny thing is Final Cut Pro cannot recognize the first batch of videos. So I took a look at the file permissions using Terminal. All of the videos in the first batch have a file permission of -rwxr-xr-x@ but the others have -rwxr-xr-x. I tried to do a chmod 755 on every video file, but the @ sign still wouldn't go away.

Tried the same with my own folder and happens exactly the same.

OS X :: Create Clickable Email Hyperlink

Mar 6, 2010

In windoze I can type, for example person@server.com?subject=Fish&body=Cod and when I send the email with that in, the person I send it to can just click the link and it will: create a new email put the person it goes to in the 'to' field put the subject in the subject field put the word 'cod' into the body However, when I do this in snow leopard, I just get an unclickable line of stuff, much as you have probably viewed above. Also, when someone sends me an email with a similar link, it's also not clickable and I have to laboriously create a new email with all the fields remembered and filled and gone back to and well you get the picture. How do I make it clickable? It's not the same as a clickable URL, I've discovered, so that didn't work.

OS X :: Bottom 100px Of Screen Are Not Clickable?

Jun 12, 2010

Well this a new one. Any time there's an element in the bottom 100 pixels or so of my screen, I can't click on it. It's in any application. I first noticed it in Safari, but I've tested it in Finder, Photoshop, you name it. In Safari it's mostly solvable because I can just scroll the page up further and click on the link.If it's a link I'm trying to click and it has a hover property, the link will change color (or underline, or whatever) on hover. I just can't click on anything.Another interesting thing to note is that it's things that are in their own windows, I guess. The dock works and my Adium buddy list is fine as well (I keep it in the bottom left corner).

OS X :: Disk Erase Error - File System Formatter Failed

Apr 26, 2010

I'm trying to format a new external hard drive and it is not working. It is a Seagate 1TB Expansion drive. The box only says PC and Windows, but the guy said 'it should work on a mac too, as long as you format it on a mac', and other people on the internets say it should be fine also e.g. here.

So, when I go into Disk Utilities > Erase tab > change Volume Format to Mac OSX Extended > click erase, it gets about 2% in and then an error window pops up which says "Disk Erase failed. Disk Erase failed with the error: File system formatter failed."

Applications :: Making DVD - File Too Big (Encoder Settings)

Jan 28, 2009

I'm trying to make some DVDs using iDVD. I want to play The Dark Knight and Benders Big Game at other locations. Anyways, I'm trying to make separate discs, not one disc for both movies. When I try to drag the file to iDVD, it says that the file is too big and to play with encoder settings. The encoder settings are already at best performance. In Finder, the file is 808MB, yet iDVD claims it is 8.08GB. I know for a fact that the file is 808mb, not 8.08GB. The file was .avi, so I converted it to .divx, and this still didn't fix it. I also tried the other movie which is .mp4, and I had the same problem.

MacBook Pro :: Making Making Cracking Sounds While Opening

Sep 27, 2009

Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

MacBook Pro :: Map Media Buttons On Logitech K260?

So far, out of the box, the volume buttons, the play button and the power button work fine. All other media keys don't work, and I'm not really sure how to map them to commands. Also, I'd like to add that next track is labeled as the alternative to "End" and the previous track is "home" (i.e. you'd expect to press shift+end and get to the next track), but this doesn't work either. I've tried installing the Logitech Control Center, but no luck.
