MacBook Pro :: Transfer Data On New HD

May 13, 2010

I have a 13" MBP and just got a new 500gb HD to pop in replacing my 160gb one. I have about 200gb free on an NTFS external I was planning on using time machine to back up my system for seamless HD swap but as we know, macs don't play nice with NTFS. If possible, I would like to not have to re-install all my applications and such. I found other software (SuperDuper) that should do the same thing but none will play with my NTFS external. I guess my question is this: I have a SATA to USB adapter, can I: Plug in new HD via USB, Format to OSX Journaled, then do a time-machine backup to the new drive, pop in the new HD and be good to go?

MacBook Pro :: Transfer Data From Old Internal HD To New HD?

Nov 26, 2009

I'm going to buy a new internal HD (Scorpio Blue 500GB) for my Macbook Pro.

My question is how to take everything I have on my old HD and put it on my new HD.

From searching I've seen people talk about SuperDuper. Exactly how would I use it?

Also I've seen some mention using Time Machine. If I use that way, do I put in my new HD first, then install Leopard, then go to Time Machine and put everything back onto my new HD?

I want to make sure I know what I'm doing so when I get it, I know which method I will use.

MacBook :: Transfer Data To It From Dead One?

Jun 11, 2012

My MacBook 2.1 (2006) recently had an accident with a glass of water and died. I just purchased a brand new MacBook running Version 10.7.3, and I'd like to see if I can rescue any of the data on the old MacBook. At the Apple store, they said I'd need to purchase an enclosure to run the old hard drive as an external drive, but they weren't able to give me specifics as to what kind of enclosure I would need to purchase. Can anyone recommend a specific enclosure that would work with those two computers for data transfer (assuming anything can be rescued)?

Mac Pro :: Buy 2010 Mac Pro To Run Maya 2009 - 2011?

Sep 4, 2010

I'm thinking about buying a new workstation for Maya 2011. I'm looking at either a 2010 Mac Pro 6-core 3.33GHz/ATI Radeon 5870, or a 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 2.93GHz/ATI Radeon 5870. I've been told by Autodesk tech support that although Maya will see all the cores, that its not guaranteed that it will use them, and use them efficiently for rendering. They said that Maya 2011 isn't optimized for processors more than 4-cores.

I just started using Maya last year on OS X, and I find it absurd how slow Autodesk qualifies new hardware and operating systems, not allowing professionals to take advantage of the latest technology that can save a ton of precious rendering time. Has anyone pulled the trigger and purchased a new 2010 Mac Pro for use with Maya 2009-2011? If so, which Mac Pro, and what configuration did you get and Why? What version of Maya are you running? Are you having any problems running Maya, bugs?..................

MacBook Pro :: Ethernet Connection / Data Transfer From PC?

Mar 21, 2010

I just purchased an external HD for my Powerbook G4.

Im trying to transfer my old media from my PC to my Mac.

I've had difficulties partitioning a section of the hd on my pc that will be compatible with mac because the pc will only partition in one format (NTSF I believe).

So my questions are:

Can I connect the two via ethernet?

Or is there some other solution I have not come across?

I've searched for an answer but most help instructions are not according to the exact specs I'm dealing with.

I'm running Windows XP on the PC and Osx 10.4.11 on my 1.5 Ghz Powerbook G4

Can 2009 Macbooks Accept Ram From 2011 Imac

Feb 6, 2012

We have just purchased a refurbished 2011 27" i5 iMac. It comes with 4GB of ram standard.  As I don't want to waste that ram when we upgrade it, I was wondering if I could use it in my early 2009 macbook.I've checked on crucial and the macbook will accept 4GB of ram. There is a similar question on this forum, but the answer was ambiguous. I have also trawled a really useful forum on macrumors, but it wasn't clear whether it could accept it or not.
