Oct 2, 2010I've a ipod shuffle 2gb and just wondering if converting songs to AAC could help me pour in more songs in this tiny things..
Most of my songs are either 192 or 256 kbps MP3 format with some even at 320kbps..While syncing we get an option to convert selection to 128kbps AAC.I never tried that option because I was scared as this might effect my original file.Does it convert the actual file and then syncs it to ur ipod or does it retains the original file and sends converted file directly to ipod without effecting my original file...

Jun 4, 2010I regularly receive songs in WAV format. In the past, I have always converted them to AIFF to overcome tagging limitations with WAV. Up until recently, I converted songs from WAV to AIFF by right-clicking them in iTunes, then choosing "make AIFF file" (that's not the exact wording, but similar). Just tried to do so today and found that this option is now missing! Was this removed in the latest version of iTunes [I'm running 9.1.1 (12)]? Could it perhaps be restored by some command-line entry in Terminal?

Mar 22, 2012I've got an iPhone & iPad who's filling up quickly mainly due to my audio tracks. They range from 128kbps all the way to ALAC. Currently the audio is consuming 36.9GB but when I select "Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs" to 256kbps, I'm hoping that anything higher (e.g. my 320kbps and ALAC) get converted down and thereby overall consuming less space.
When I select this option, the Audio jumps up to 45.1GB instead. What's going on? Is it upsampling my other 128/160/192kbps tracks up to 256kbps? This option currently seems counterintuitive to me.

It happens every time i check "convert higher bit rate songs to 192/256 kbps" on iTunes 10.6 (40) on my Mac.
On the screenshot (iPad 2010 running iOS 5.1) Bon Iver's album copied by default settings, and Coldplay's album converted to 192 kbps.BTW on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) all covers are OK even when convert feature is ON.

Jan 8, 2011I have a Mac OS X install on a hard drive which I've removed from my system due to installing a new SSD with a brand new install of OS X. I'd like to use the old 500GB drive as a storage/backup drive, but the file system/all my data is still intact on the drive. This could be useful as I want to keep all my data and would save me having to copy across to another drive, format the entire disk and then copy it all back.
I'm just a bit worried about what to do with the system files that were on there... can I just move all the files I want to keep out of the usual Mac home folders and then just delete all the system folders as if they were never there? Or do I have to re-format/re-partition to get the most out of the 'new' media drive?

Jul 4, 2008I'm currently using a combination of normal and smart playlists in iTunes. I've got normal playlists for all my albums, and smart playlists for music I have as an album but never really listen to as an album, for example, my Jazz smart playlist consists every song with the genre as "Jazz".
Needless to say, this takes a lot of organizing but it's definitely worth it. Now I've been thinking about making them all Smart Playlists, this would make organizing even more miticulous, but there wouldn't be "accidents", like songs I accidently deleted from a playlist when hitting the delete button or w/ever.
Since smart playlists update on-the-spot if you add new songs, I was wondering if they use more CPU? iTunes is already a memory/resource hog, will adding hundreds of smart playlists make a big difference in resources used?

Feb 4, 2009So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?

Nov 22, 2010I transferred all my itunes library to an external hard drive.I had all my songs in itunes and then went to "preferences" and set itunes to look on my external hard drive for my itunes. Then I went to "library" and then "consolidate", and it moved all my library over to my external. I can verify that my songs are all there on my externalHowever, now, itunes won't play any songs of mine. I double click on the song in itunes and it just wont play. There's no error message, there's no exclamation point, it just won't play. Any idea what is goign on? Preferences still shows that my library is directing to the external

May 21, 2008I've been having a problem with every software out there it seems. I've got a Parallels VM running on my leopard 10.5.2 and even I tried some programs out and they just weren't very user friendly.I've got about 10 gigs of my training videos, I'd like to import to iTunes and use it instead of Windows media player on my VM.I've tried video converter for mac, handbrake, a bunch of other programs for pc some freeware, some not, I just want an easy way to batch this all up and run at night while i'm sound asleep.
The problems I've been running into are related to the WM codec for either Flip4Mac or whatever, I don't get audio when playing with quicktime. So i don't know if a mac program will even convert the audio then if there is no audio coming from when I play the file.
