ITunes Mac :: Copying Files Failed, Because Don't Have Permission To Change

New day, new problem. I have tried to consolidate/move songs to external drive through itunes/library/organize/consolidate. At first it looks like everything is copying over and at the end I get an error message saying, "copying files failed, because you don't have permission to change your ITUNES media folder or a folder within it." does anybody know what that means and what to do. I am an administrator for the laptop so I should be able to do what I want in that regard.

ITunes Mac :: Consolidate - Copying Files Failed /The File Name Was Invalid.
My system is 10.5.8, iTunes 9.2.1 (4)

I tried to consolidate my iTunes library to an external HD. After about 100GB of copied music, I got the message : Copying files failed. The File name was invalid.

Now everytime I try again to consolidate, I get immediately this message. I am looking everywhere for a solution, and I only find the same problem for Windows iTunes users.

ITunes Mac :: Consolidate Library - Copying Files Failed The Required File Is In Use.
I'm trying to move all my mp3s to the external hard drive.

I changed the location under iTunes preferences to the external hard drive and then when I go to Library-Manage Library-Consolidate, I received that error:

Copying files failed. The required file is in use.

I have no idea what file is in use.

I tried unchecking all the files in the library so it'll just copy files that I have checked only, that didn't work either.

I am running into "chmodperation not permitted" when I try to change the permissions on my time machine backup manually.

Here is the complete info. I brought a new MacMini server and was trying to copy my music folder from time machine backup(of my MBP) into the Server. From the Server I logged in as root and tried to change the file permissions of the music folder with this command

It throws the above error.

I don't have my MBP with me to do anykind of stuff. I don't want to install SL on my macmini and restore from time machine bckup. Is there any other way.

This time I get an error message (error code 8003) and am not allowed to move the files back onto the drive or out of the trash, even after changing the permissions. I've searched the support forum for error code 8003, but find nothing that relates to back up files.

ITunes Mac :: .m4V Files Don't Appear Until Played From Movies Folder
Some .m4v camcorder movie files (from a recent .avi conversion using Handbrake) just don't appear in my iTunes 'Movies' library until I double-click on them in the iTunes 'Movies' folder. Handbrake did the batch conversion and placed the converted files in the iTunes 'Movies' folder. All of the converted files are visible in that 'Movies' folder of iTunes. And when I double-click them they play in an iTunes window. iTunes 'Movies' section seems unable to display them until they have first been played from the iTunes 'Movies' folder. Am I missing something about the way iTunes handles .m4v files?

HOWEVER... now even when i log in to my old account I CANNOT ACCESS MY TIME MACHINE HARD DRIVE. It says "the folder "Time Machine MacProDitchey" can't be opened because you don't have permissions to see the contents. "

When i go to time machine's info, all the privileges read "Custom". I cannot change them to read/write..

Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Won't Restore / Don't Have Permission
I am trying to restore a project folder containing website files. It was backed up originally when I was using Leopard and then again after the Snow Leopard upgrade. I need access to the pre-snow leopard files, which are visible in time machine. When I click "restore", however, time machine creates a blank folder and gives me the message: "the operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access name of file."

Nothing has changed besides the operating system. The computer and the backup disk are as they have always been. The computer has only one user, so it's not a user conflict. I've reset permissions and restarted. I have tried restoring to several different locations, including the file's original position and the desktop, as well as replacing and keeping both.

OS X :: Frozen - Finder And Desktop - Don't Have Permission To Open Certain Programs
The Mac OS X on the system has suddenly frozen her out of everything but the finder and the desktop. It boots fine and pops up on the desktop, and everything looks completely normal. But when you want to run an application and click on it, a big fat question mark appears over the icon in the bottom menu, no matter what application you click on. Further more it appears that all applications has been wiped from the system when you enter the applications folder. It is completely empty.

Now I've tried to click on different stuff, such as the internet, to turn it off, but nothing happens. I've also tried to enter the OSX preferences, but nothing happens when I do. At times it comes up with the message that you don't have permission to open certain programs, even though the programs apparently dont exist on the Mac. I've interrogated my girlfriend about her activity, and she swears she has done nothing out of the ordinary like download shady software or anything, and apparently all of this has come like lightning from a clear sky.

ITunes Mac :: Not Copying Files To Media Folder
I added a NAS and followed the steps to transfer my iTunes Media Library off my local hard disk to the NAS, all through iTunes, i.e. the application did all the work. iTunes Advanced Preferences have 'Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library' checked. So, after the move, Library Consolidation, etc., I have since downloaded music from eMusic and Amazon (using their downloaders) and updated iPhone apps through the app store. Everything new that has come down the pipe since my previous steps is going into the local hard drive, NOT the iTunes Media Folder. And yes, the iTunes Media folder location, the new one on the NAS, is correctly set under Advanced Preferences, it has to be in order to do the move and consolidation.

This appears to be the software failing at what it clearly indicates it will do, but is there another element I'm missing, or a way to get it to do it's job without me spending the time manually adding files to the library?

ITunes Mac :: Copying Music Files And Playlists Onto New Computer?
I just received my new MacBook Pro and am going to need to copy my music files, iTunes playlists, etc. from my existing PC to my new MacBook Pro. Can anyone recommend some good/definitive articles or posts on how to do this seamlessly?

One thing I should note is that while I keep a lot of my music in my iTunes folder, I also keep a lot of it in other folders on my hard drive, and I'd strongly prefer to maintain this file organization. I'm hoping this won't cause any issues with the transition. I also really, really, really hope I'm able to cleanly transition my playlists without having to manually recreate anything, as I have hundreds of playlists that I've spent literally thousands of hours curating!

IMac :: Can't Delete Trash / Saying Don't Have Permission To Delete
I dual boot my iMac using Boot Camp and I'm having problems deleting a bunch of files in my Trash. A short history. I purchased a OWC external hard drive case and I've been going through my old hard drives which originally were used in my Windows XP computer. The drives were contaminated with Windows viruses and so I installed the drives one by one in the OWC case and proceeded to delete files and programs which I didn't need in each drive while in OS X and keeping the files I wanted to save in each respective drive. Now what I'm faced with is a Trash bin filled with Windows XP software (including Windows XP itself) which I cannot delete because OS X says I don't have permission to delete those files.

OS X Leopard :: When Copying Files / How Do You Skip Bad Files And Continue Copying
I've done some research and it seems like there's a solution to this problem using apple scripts, but since I don't know anything about that, I was hoping for some sort of application or program that could resolve this issue.

Basically, I'm trying to copy a bunch of files off a DVD disc to my hard drive. Sometimes, I can copy whole folders without an issue. Other times, when a folder contains a file that brings up Error 36, it stops copying when the error happens. This makes it really difficult because then I have to go back and see which files copied and which files I still have to try and copy. I really don't care if I can't get every single file, but I'd like to get as much as I can transferred from the disc to my hard drive.

Is there a way to have it copy the ones it can without stopping the entire process? What's worse is that it doesn't even copy them in order, so I can't just rely on looking back at the list of files alphabetically in order to figure out where to start the process over when an error occurs.

I just bought a new 160GB Samsung HM160HC internal hard drive for my Powerbook and have installed it in a Rosewill 2.5" hd enclosure with the intention of cloning my current hd onto it before installing it in my machine.
