ITunes Mac :: How To Change The 'new' Library Back To The Old One

I've just installed iTunes 10. Than I deleted it and replaced it with a backup copy of iTunes 9. Now when I open my iTunes, it tells me that the library was produced with a newer version of iTunes and that I can't open it.

HOW can I access my good old library?

ITunes Mac :: Plists - Change A Setting That Can't Reset Back To Original?
There are 3 plists on my iMac for iTunes:

1. com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
2. com.apple.iTunes.plist
3. com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist

It looks like the first contains the equalizer settings, but what do the other two contain?

What would happen if I removed the iTunesHelper.plist? Ditto for the iTunes.plist?

I'm trying to change a setting that I can't reset back to the original.

ITunes Mac :: Sharing Library Doesn't Include All Music That's In Main Music Library?
I turned on Home Sharing in the Remote app on my iPhone 4. It readily found my Home Sharing Library from my iMac (that contains 1306 items). After entering in my Apple ID and password, I tried to search for a recently purchased song using the Remote app and it didn't find it. I went to the iMac and immediately found the song in the Library and in the Purchased playlist. I also noticed that the Library on the iMac contains 2781 items.

Question #1: Why wouldn't the Home Sharing Library on my iMac not contain the same songs that are in the Library on the same iMac?

To solve the problem, I just synced the iMac to the Remote app (not through Home Sharing) and was able to see my entire library.

Problem/Question #2: Since my Home Sharing library doesn't show all the music, when my wife's MacBook Home Shares, she too does not see all the music available for streaming. They are all on the same wi-fi network. The reason I use Home Sharing vs. Sharing of the library is that I automatically transfer iPhone apps across the network as she syncs her iPhone to her computer (she wants no music).

ITunes Mac :: Ipods Library Won't Sync With The New Library?
I had do erase everything off my hard drive to fix a problem with my iphone today and when I went to restore itunes, my ipod won't sync with the library. I get the message that I would need to erase everything on my ipod because its sync with another library and sync with the new library which just has the things I brought in the itunes store. I have a lot more music that the music I got in itunes. So my question is how can I copy the flies (music/videos/movies) from my ipod to the new library?

ITunes Mac :: Set 'watched Folders' To Automatically Import Media To Library?
One thing I've long missed in iTunes is the ability to auto-import new music as and when I drag it into one of my music folders. Unfortunately, as I keep my music in a few different places (one large folder for my album collection, one large folder for my iTunes and 'singles' collection, DJ stuff, audio projects for work etc...) the options provided to me by Apple don't really seem like they're going to work for me. For instance, if I click 'File>Add to Library' then it's going to take me forever to remember which tracks are new since I last updated, and in which folders; I can't just re-add the entire folder tree as there's a lot of them and I'll probably end up with a load of duplicate entries. iTunes' supposed 'Automatically add to iTunes' folder also won't work for the same reason. I actually can't see how that folder helps; surely people want to automatically add ALL their new media to their media player program? I can't see anybody placing their whole music collection within a single folder called 'Automatically add to iTunes'?!! Surely there's a better way to watch a variety of folders for new media and import it automatically as it's created??!

Mac Mini :: Change In Refresh Rate Scrubbed Display - Can't Get It Back?
I have a Philips Ambilight LCD TV, which features, usefully, a VGA input toward the rear. I am trying to connect my Mac Mini to utilise as a media centre. When I plugged in, I got a picture first time, however it didn't fill the screen, although the ratio seemed right. The display was flickering very slightly, so I thought I'd have a look at the refresh rate. There were only two choices: 60 Hz (selected) and 55 Hz. Having moved it to 55 Hz, the display disappeared and I probably rashly rebooted. When I boot up on my Dell TTF, there doesn't appear to be an option to set to default or whatever.

ITunes Mac :: See IPod Songs In ITunes - But Can't Save Them In Library Or Music Folder?
Initially had loaded my iTunes onto a PC and "homeshared" to my Mac. PC died and could not disable homesharing on THAT end. But did disable homesharing on my Mac.

Synced by iPod (appears to be a PC model) and all songs showed up under device in iTunes. But, all songs were downloaded from CDs (not iTunes store). So: tried to select all and save to a new folder under music. No dice.

Tried "Add to Library" from iTunes File Menu...nada. Since the songs were originally loaded to the iPod from a Windows PC, do I need a utility in order to get them uploaded to my Mac? Really don't want to have to re-record them all (>1000 songs) and know I must be missing something obvious here.

The title pretty much says it all. When I click on a song, the little speaker icon appears next to the song title and the play button switches to a pause button (and vice versa when I click it again), but the playhead will not progress at all. ITunes Mac :: ITunes Library / Gone And Won't Show Up
I recently reformatted my Mac after some partitioning issues. I backed everything up on Time Machine, launched Disk Utility, reinstalled the OS, and then restored data from the backup. Worked incredibly smoothly - everything appears to be in working order except for one thing: iTunes.I launched iTunes 10 and all my old playlists were there, but they were all "empty" (it wasn't even an empty list, just a blank white screen). I've tried everything: reinstalling iTunes (after following the complete uninstall directions on this site as best as I could), deleting previous libraries, and nothing will show up. The same applies to Movies, TV shows, etc. I just opened a song in iTunes and it plays fine...after the song ends it switches to another song I added, so I know that the songs are there, just nothing's displaying.

Also when viewing iTunes preferences, sometimes it crashes giving me a -50 error, so I know that there has to be something wrong here.

ITunes :: Songs Don't And Won't Appear In Library
I'm having problems with songs I've loaded into iTunes not appearing in my library, even though they're on the hard drive, and properly filed in the iTunes folder.

I ripped all of my Beatles CDs a couple years ago, and now that I'm looking at them again, certain tracks are missing when I search under album, title, or artist.

Strangely enough, they ARE on the hard-drive, properly organized in the iTunes folder.

Even more strangely, when I try to drag the file into iTunes again, it STILL won't appear, though it WILL play.  However, even when it plays, the library still does not show that the song exists. Do I now have to somehow rebuild the library?  It seems like that's what's called for.

ITunes Mac :: Can't Change ID3 Tags In ITunes 10?
Ever since the update to 9.2, iTunes seems to have lost the ability to convert ID3 tags. Prior to 9.2 (and obviously, 10.x) I would be able to add mp3s to my library, select all of the newly added tracks, then Control click and change all of my ID3 tags to NONE to strip it of any extraneous info, wait for iTunes to rescan everything, and then I'd re-convert my ID3 tags to 2.3.

Since the update(s), it'll allow you to go through the motions, but the tracks don't actually rescan. I'll try to convert to NONE and nothing happens. This is an important function for me because I use iTunes in conjunction with Serato for DJing and sometimes Serato has trouble reading a track if the ID3 tag is an older version.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this merely an oversight by Apple's iTunes team or is there a known reason why this function was removed?p.s. -- I have always been under the impression that you cannot change an ID3 tag from say, 2.1 to 2.3, without first converting the ID3 tag to NONE first. If this is no longer the case, can someone please enlighten me?

ITunes Mac :: Can't See Library In Itunes 10
I installed itunes 10 on my new macbook pro, and it is glitching so that I can't see the contents of any of the libraries or watch tv episodes or films. Oddly I can play music, but it won't show me what I am playing.

In an effort to fix the issue, I have...
- uninstalled itunes and re-installed it
- uninstalled itunes 10 and installed itunes 9.2 instead
- checked all possible software updates, and downloaded the available ones
- uninstalled all itunes and installed 9.1 as a replacement

nothing has helped. I have also been having trouble downloading episodes off of a season pass as itunes has (even prior to the update) as over the course of a few days it has said that itunes is unavailable even though it let me purchase a new episode.

ITunes Mac :: Can't Complete Gathering Information About Your Library
I am using iTunes 9. I have a 78 GB music library on a network attached drive (it is where my iTunes folder is). iTunes works fine but I cannot turn on Genius. When I try, the status bar opens and it says "gathering information about your library". The status bar fills up about 20% and then I get the spinning beachball. It sits there until I force quit iTunes (which is characterized as "not responding").

I have combed the discussion board to see what other people have done. Here's one thing I tried: quit itunes; went to home folder, then library, then preferences; deleted "com.apple.iTunes.plist"; went to itunes folder and deleted "itunes library extras.itdb" and "itunes library genius.itdb"; emptied trash; restarted iTunes. This did not work.

OK, I have a very weird problem... I purchased and downloaded some music from the internet, and when I try to add to iTunes it says it loaded them, and transfers songs to "iTunes Music" folder, but the songs just don't appear.

I also discovered that if you make a playlist and add the songs directly there they do show up. But they are not in the main "music" part... and if you do a search they don't come up. I've tried restarting, both software and system. No clue what to do... it'd be really inconvenient if I can only listen to these songs through a playlist

ITunes Mac :: Transferring IPhone Purchases Back To Library
I had to reinstall my Mac OS. No backup. Anyway, I have an iPhone full of paid stuff. Now, obviously iTunes wants to know what to do when I try syncing the iPhone. If, I sync it will erase my iPhone. But, it did give me an option to transfer the contents of my iPhone back to the library. My computer is authorized so I click the 'Transfer' button. It starts syncing but I notice it is erasing some stuff from the phone! Immediately disconnect. The items it deleted are not in my library. So, my question is if I continue through the the process, will I lose everything or does it reload everything after it erases the phone? Seems weird it would erase to transfer. Especially given the 'Transfer Back' option. Or, maybe my iTunes account remembers all my purchases and syncs from that info?

ITunes Mac :: Consolidating Library - Required File Can't Found
I'm trying to move my library off of an external hard drive and back onto my MacBook Pro's internal drive. As I don't want to lose all of my metadata I'm using the consolidate library method to copy everything over from the external drive and update all of the library links for me automatically. Unfortunately thought I've stumbled upon a hitch. My library is roughly 27GB. Along the way I've had a few errors popping up and saying "Copying files failed. The required file cannot be found."

This hasn't been an issue up until now as I've just had a quick scan through my library, identified which tracks have got broken links by looking for the little exclamation marks by them and then updating the links accordingly. Unfortunately I've now got about three quarters of my library transferred successfully to my laptop but every time I try to go back to consolidating the library i keep getting the "copying files failed." message appearing. I've scanned through the library for any exclamation marks and can't find any; I've also run Doug's script for MIA files (of which there appear to be none); and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do.
