IMovie 11 :: Using IMovie 11 And Virtual Memory - Is It Enough

I am shooting high school basketball video with two Sony HD cameras:
1 camera follows the action on the court, the other stays on the clock.

I then use iMovie 11 to superimpose the clock video using Picture-in-Picture onto the game footage.

Both cameras shooting highest HD at 30 fps.

Last basketball season, I was using iMovie 09 on a MacBook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD. I would import Video 1, import Video 2, superimpose Picture-in-Picture, share to iDVD, burn videos, no worries.

This basketball season, I am using iMovie 11 on a Mac Pro, dual Intel-6-core, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I am having some kind of problem with memory (I think).

I boot my Mac Pro. I import the 1-hour Video 1, it takes 11 minutes. If I now import the 1-hour Video 2 (with no reboot), it takes about 30 minutes.

If I boot my Mac Pro, import 1-hour Video 1 in 11 minutes, then reboot the Mac Pro again, the 1-hour Video 2 takes 11 minutes.

When I share to iDVD to burn standard DVDs, if I reboot, it takes about 30 minutes. If I do not reboot, it takes about 2 hours.

When I export to Quicktime at 1920x1080 to burn on a Blu-Ray disc using Toast without a reboot, the export fails 4 times out of 5. If I reboot before exporting to Quicktime, the export always works.

On my MacBook Pro, using iMovie 09, of course all the times were slower because of fewer/slower cores, but I was never rebooting constantly.

IMovie 11 :: Why Can't I Download Mts Files From Canon Hf20 To IMovie 11
I have searched and searched and searched for a solution to this problem and I can not find it. I have a new Mac desktop (10.6.4) with iMovie 11. I have a Canon HF20. All I want to do is download my videos and burn them on Dvd's.

When I connect the Hf20 to the computer, open iMovie and then click on "File, import, movies," the .mts files are blacked out if you will and can not be selected. I was told by someone on the this site that you have to download them directly from your camcorder and that if they are on your computer already, you can't load them into iMovie. Well, I tried it and it didn't work.

IMovie 11 :: IMovie 11 Import Bug - Not Showing Any Clips?
Just installed the new iMovie 11 (well, all of iLife 11). Did a restart just to be safe.Opened iMovie and it updated a few things in video events, etc. Popped my SD card with some new movies on it. Import window came up as usual and proceeded to import about 20 short clip. About half way though, iMovie just locked up. No response. Waited about 30 min or so, and finally did a Force Quit and restarted the machine.how, the Import From window shows no clips.

I archived the SD card to my machine, formatted it, and took a single video clip (just to rule out the files on the card getting corrupted as the culprit). Still, the Import From window shows no clips. Any ideas? It seems as if I can't get iMovie to recognize any clips on my SD card.

IMovie 11 :: Clips Missing Audio After Exported From IMovie?
While in iMovie, there was no problem with the video and audio but after exporting, 3 clips out of the whole project were missing the audio. After trying numerous things like deleting the clip from the timeline and putting it back in, undoing the audio skimming, exporting using quicktime, movie and DVD, nothing worked. We even took out the clips missing the audio and created a new project and those exported perfectly with both audio and video. What worked in the end was going into "clip" and detaching the audio. Doesn't make sense but it worked and I was able to export and create a DVD with the audio.

IMovie 11 :: IMovie's Compression Of Footage?
An example - original clip, captured as a .mov file from my Canon camcorder is 2.78GB.

In iMovie '11, I used the image stabilizer and added a filter. The exported file, a .mov, using the two ways you can do this, is a highly compressed 487MB.

I work in Final Cut Express. I did upload one video stabilized in iMovie and edited in FCE to YouTube and notice the quality of the video resolution is far below what I normally achieve with fiddling with Quicktime's conversion to achieve an under 2GB movie file for uploading.

I've tried every which way to get iMovie to export the clip at its original size and it compresses, compressed, compresses.

Movie 11 :: Imovie 11 Loosing Every Second Line - Imovie Hd 6?
i know this has been discussed before but quite frankly I am just about to put my mac and all that goes along with it into the bin. I was editing away on adobe prem ele 7 ( cheapest of the cheap ) on pc with no problem in quality at all.I upgrade to a mac and imovie 11 and find out the same clips look terrible in imovie 11 compared to adobe prem ele 7.I have final cut express 4 but I need the cheesy themes and trailor for my wedding dvds that are filmed from a videobooth ( 15 - 45 second messages left from guests ) but i do use fce4 for editing surf footage.Ok back to the point I have read in many forums about imovie discarding this second line resulting in a loss of quality what the **** is this about I mean why would they do this its so frustrating, why would they focus least on the most important part of editing - the quality of the final product

IMovie 11 :: IMovie To Be Viewed From NAS
I have a large iMovie library recorded with my Sony cam in HD. All stored on one Mac Computer. In our family we have 4 computer. Two running on Mac (with the latest OS and the latest iMovie family pack) and two running on Windows 7. I want to be able to watch the iMovie library at least from the two Mac computer, idally from Windows as well. ...and ideally without any conversion as it will take days....

I purchased a Netgear Duo NAS, have implemented it, can access it from all computer in the home network etc. Copied all iMovie(s) to the Netgear as I had hoped to be able to play it from the other computer via player. However, Quicktime, VLC and what have you are only playing the sound and not the movie. It appears to be a problem of the icod (AFC) file format. Any idea or suggestion how to fix this relatively simple ask to be able to watch iMovie(s) in a network from a NAS without complicated conversions to other formats (at least in a give Mac environment)?

IMovie 11 :: Does IMovie Use Every Beat Marker
I am new to using beat markers. I set up a song with beat markers and dragged in photos and videos. I noticed that iMovie didn't use every beat marker, especially ones that were close together. I also noticed that it didn't seem to line up the beat to the dead center middle of the transition each time. (I do have snap to beats selected) Is this the way it is supposed to work? Regardless, the result was pretty good. I'm just not sure if that was coincidental or if imovie is just that smart as to where to line up the transitions.

How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?

Applications :: Won't Import Imovie Project Files Into Imovie / Not Recognizing Files
So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.

IDVD (iLife 09/11) :: Files In IDVD But Not IMovie / Can't Get Them In IMovie?
I filmed a movie, edited it in iMovie, and successfully burned it from iDVD. Stupidly, I then deleted all the source clips for the movie on iMovie, meaning that when I attempt to upload the movie to YouTube or anywhere else, nothing but the music I added plays. The movie still plays in full on iDVD. Is there some way I can either a) get the movie (in full) back into iMovie or b) upload the movie straight from iDVD?

I did try using a DVD extractor (the free demo, at least) but it still wouldn't allow me to import the iDVD files, I assume because it only pulls things off of DVDs or with a particular file type. Apologies if this has been posted before, though I skimmed through the first few pages to make sure it hasn't been.
