I have a late 2007 20" Alu iMac and when ever I watch videos they appear too dark. I have tried changing all the settings I can find and nothing helps.
Its ok if I use VLC as I can change the brightness within the program but anything else ie quicktime, youtube or other embeded video always looks way too dark.
Has anyone else encountered this or is there something out there that I can do do brighten the video image?
Just trying to figure out if this is a issue with my macbook pro. When the screen is dark/black when movies are playing ect.. I noticed light on both sides of my screen. Not sure if this is normal but it bothers me a great deal. I have a 15' early 2008 macbook pro with applecare. Picture is side ways sorry[URL]
My iMac has these dark spots on the screen and I wanted to confirm that it is a hardware issue before I make an appointment with an Apple genius. I thought it was dirt, but cleaning it didn't do anything.
I can barely see digital pictures and the likes. But websites and such i can see fine so long as the colors are light and looking on this site... [URL]
the first image i absolutely cannot see, it is 100% pitch black.. the other bellow it shows up just fine. But the two left/lowest squares on the color table on the very bottom the page both appear the same shade of pitch black.
I can see light but not dark. I tried callibrating and adjusting brightness and contrast.
dread going to work and use pc all day. anyway the only issue i have is every so often i will be working away and my whole screen goes blank for a second,,freezes. I have to tap the mouse to get it to come back,
So after giving up the new iMacs after two replacements about six months ago for yellow screens......I thought I would try again.
The good news is that the white is very uniform with no yellowing. The bad news is that it has this dark band across the bottom of the screen just above the dock.
So I am basically in the same spot I was six months ago. Replace the unit for a new one, replace the screen, or just live with it. Maybe I am being too anal but for $2,500, I shouldn't have to live with anything but a perfect screen.
My screen has gone to a very dark grey on startup. I can faintly make out the desktop icons, but it is about 98% black. Everything else seems to be fuctioning. iMac G417" Flat Panel 17" [Pixar-lamp style] OS 10.4
How many others on here have an imac with burn in problems? I have a tone! I am so unhappy with this product. I am happy I have the extended warranty, I am now getting a new monitor for my imac.
I have a question (whoa). I have an iMac Dual Core, bought in mid-2007 (it's the White Plastic version, not the newer Aluminium with the glass-display).
For some time now I had some dark spots, kind of shadow like in the bottom left corner. I wasn't bothered too much by them, but they got bigger, and now I have these in all of the corners except the bottom right one.
Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of them? (no, no three-year guarantee plan ... stupid me), or if not if it'd mean to replace the whole display or if it's just some cleaning (I talk money-wise here ...)
I attach two not-so-good pictures (the background is plain-white and the image is a bit enhanced ...) so you guys can see what I mean.
Ok... so probably asking for a miracle, but would there be any way to play halo for mac on my iMac G3? Specs: 500Mhz G3 750 640 MB ram 16MB Vram 20GB HDD. Mac OS 10.4.11 I know the game requires 32MB Vram, but i'm hoping theres a way around this.
Also, i had panther on before, and i could play videos off the HDD fine, but since i upgraded to tiger, it plays lousy. and yes i've tried VLC. should i downgrade back to panther if i want to watch videos?
Just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina, refurbished (because why not - the same product for a cheaper price) around a month ago. It's the 13 inch and is the model before the most recent one came out (4GB of RAM instead of 8GB - late 2013). From the very first day, playing a full-screen video on any site (be it YouTube, Facebook, etc) just makes the fan much louder than usual (so loud that you can almost hear it more over the video itself). Thought it may have been just a thing with Flash Player being buggy, but the problem has persisted for a while now. I'm not even pushing the CPU to any limits - literally playing a full-screen video on Facebook (not even in HD) makes the fan go crazy.
Just last night I tried installing Borderlands 2 and it was the same thing - FPS rate was fine, no lag, just the fan was so loud that I actually got scared for my computer and turned it off. After closing the app and checking out the fan temperature, it was at 91c.
Never happens when browsing/surfing or doing my usual work.
Should I go give it back to Apple? The thing is I start university in less than a week (and hence will be traveling), so not sure if I can afford to give my laptop in to them for a long period of time (I know it should be free though since mine is a refurb item). May it just be an issue that is quickly repairable or is this worse?

Ok, I've noticed this week that my 2010 13" MBP hangs a lot when it plays any videos I've bought off of itunes (it's fine with other videos). I mean anytime a itunes video pops up on my itunes player, the whole computer hangs (beachball of death and can't do anything). And it hangs for quite a bit (haven't timed it but a minute maybe?)
At first I thought it was the graphics card as the first time I realized what was causing my computer to randomly freeze up (it's been starting to do that this week but at first wasn't sure what cause itunes was in the background) it gave the wierd color bars on the video screen for the video it was playing (I have itunes play the video in the small box on the left bottom corner). Like the whole video screen was random fubar color bars and not the video (it took a minute and then eventually played fine after me reclicking the video). It has not done that since.
I played around with it and noticed it seems fine when I play videos I have not bought off of itunes but it reliabley hangs the whole computer when I try to play a video bought off of itunes. It eventually plays but it is really annoying particularly cause it holds up my whole computer until it resolves whatever issue it is.
So, hardware or software and any suggestions if it is software on how to fix it?
Being a history enthusiast of that era, I've been waiting for Empire: Total War to come out for quite a while. I'm also a bit of an enthusiast as well and would really like to get a new iMac. I'm just wondering if anyone out there is playing E:TW on an iMac with Boot Camp and how well it's been working. Any particular video card recommended over the others?
Whenever I play HD movies on my iMac in full screen with QuickTime, you can always see the pixels, some are big some small, like boxes. Is there any fix to this? also this is a Aluminum mid level 20 inch iMac
when ever i log into world of warcraft. and start playing after five minutes my screen will just shut off but the computer will still be running. maybe the video card ?
I started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.
I tried to use some software to test the display. I found when the screen goes to completely dark with the backlight on, the bottom side of my screen is brighter than other parts.... have u guys met any problem like that, or is this some problem with my MBA?
I have a problem with my MacBook screen. Everytime I try to turn on the MacBook, the blue screen appears for a second and then everything gets dark (but I can see that the computer turned on normally, it's just the screen that gets almost black, without light). Sometimes only the right side of the screen is blue and then gets dark just like the left one. I was looking for the problem and I perceived that the left side seems to be loose and I can't fix it. What should I do?
I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.
Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.
my screen is just randomly going dark. its not shuting down - just seems to go to sleep but nothing I do wakes it short of turning the power button off then on. When I do that it quickly comes on again and seems to work fine. Seems to be happening with more and more frequency and is not particular to any software. I've read the boards here - I'm not a gamer ( no games on this computer) I'm a photographer with lots of files and I use photoshop alot. Yesterday I was on you tube and my screen went dark again but the video was still playing - I could still hear it. In fact, I could hit my mouse to stop and start the video but I couldn't see anything. I bought an Imac 27'' like 6 months ago, but my screen seems to have some dark spots in the corner, when I put any white image, on that spots it shows like the screen were dusty but is not, at the same time in the middle screen when if Iput some black image some pixels show lighter than the others.
Late Model 2010 Macbook pro, opening screen from closed position allows the screen to turn on as normal, but two seconds later, goes to complete black. Temporary fix includes hitting F1 to lower brightenss (if the screen was at full brightness) or F1 or F2 (if screen was not at full brightness) changing this brightness level brings back screen to full brightness -1. this problem seems to be pretty prevelent and related to the nvidia card ro something simialr. are there any known fixes? will apple acknowlege this. this just started happening to me a week or so ago but i've seen articles are far back as early 2011 with the same symptoms.

My iMac Screen on my left side darker than my right side but it have been having this issue with my screen brighten up and down by itself from day one. Purchase my iMac about 13 months ago
My MacBook has suddenly gone dark. It charges fine and the battery lights show there's charge. The screen is very dark when powered up? When I turn the brightness down fully, then go to turn it up the screen lights up for a second then goes again?
My MacBook Pro's screen has been going black recently, sometimes is pops back up and sometimes I have to shut down and reboot. But while the screen is dark the computer seems to be functioning (music still playing, sounds from touching keys randomly in the dark) I recently upgraded to Yosemite - coincidence or is my 6-year old Macbook just getting on in years?
My MacBook is from 2007, so it is old and has its problems. When I turned it on one day, it was all normal, and randomly the screen got so dark, it looked like the computer had shut down on me. I knew it was still turned on though because the little light was indicating that it was on and it was still making the cd drive/booting up sounds.
After a while, I noticed that the screen just went very very dim, because I could still slightly see the webpage I was on. Turning up the brightness of the screen did nothing, same with restarting the computer.
Sometimes the screen would come back to the normal brightness, until I would go to do something on the internet and it would go very dark again. It's so unpredictable, I don't even want to deal with it anymore.
I just bought the latest and greatest 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display in mid-2014. Every once in awhile, my screen will go dark. When I hit the touch pad, the cursor will show up and will move, on a completely black background. At that point I panic and start depressing the touch pad, when that doesn't work, I try depressing the on/off key; which does not respond at first, but finally the screen returns to normal.? NOTE: My operating system is OSX 10.9.4.
