I'm experiencing a intermittent screen scrambling on my MacBook 2 GHz Core Duo. It's a 3cm block which runs vertically down the screen and scrambles/inverts the colours in a flickering way.

Recently I have noticed that in certain videos, specifically those that have a lot of movement and blinking lights there is a horizontal line that will appear and float up during playback. I tried using different media players and the floating line remains. I have also tried to de-interlace in VLC to no help. I will also add that all of my drivers and software are up to date.
I'm currently using:
iMac
Version: OSX 10.7.3
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512

So my laptop case has been splitting near the screen and it also seems to swell at random points. I have never dropped my laptop, I take great care with it as I need it for school. Last time I went to the apple store they told me it was a cosmetic issue and id have to pay around $800.00 to get it fixed. This time I decided to call the national apple line. They told me they think it should be taken care of, and that some one was being dis ingenious in the store (did I get screwed maybe because some one's boss told them to stop giving customers replacements? I have no idea). So Now I am taking this to the apple store tomorrow. What do you think I should argue? I think since I have a 3 year protection plan, I should get at least my entire case replaced, if not a refurbished macbook pro/ or an upgrade.

I've recently acquired a 23" ACD. I've seen the "BackPack" shelf concept that attaches a little shelf onto the metal foot of the display. I was wondering, has anyone come up with a solution to vertically store a MacBook (Pro) behind the display, also attaching to the display (or onto the surface if more support is necessary) in this same manner? After hooking my new ACD up to the laptop, I can't help but think how sweet it would be if my laptop could be tucked out of site behind this gigantic screen.
I guess I'm not really looking for a commercial solution if one exist (as they tend to be exorbitantly expensive, but more for pictures of home-made solutions to this sort of thing. I'm never going to look at it for more than a few minutes at a time, so I could care less how it looks!

I currently have a MBP1,1 running 10.6.4 on an external monitor with the ideal resolution at 1920x1200. From time to time, when I wake my MBP from sleep through external keyboard/mouse to have it run solely on the external monitor, it sets the display at 1600x1200, so everything seems squished vertically. After a fresh reformat, the problem persists, though it is less frequent. It's just a minor annoyance that I can't seem to find a solution to fix permanently. I usually have to go to safe mode and adjust the resolution back to normal. Alternatively, only sometimes if I put it back to sleep and wake it up again with the external keyboard, it will detect the right settings.

I have a 3 gig file that I want to send to someone by burning it on a few cds (no dvd burner T.T). What is the best way to compress the 3 gig file and burn it over a few cds so my recipient can take the files off the cd's and recombine them? I've seen rar files like this, and I guess that would be good but I don't know how I would do it.

Currently, I have all of my media in one iTunes library. This includes 40+ movies, 3000 songs, music videos and podcasts. I also have lots of apps for my iPhone. I have an iPhone 3GS, iPod nano, and Apple TV connected to this library. The files and library are stored on an external hard drive as I don't have the space for this on my uMBP. I would like to split the library (saving all my metadata and album art so that I don't need to redo this) into two. One library will remain on the external hard drive and contain all the movies, whilst the other will have all my music on it. The first library will be used to stream movies to my Apple TV, whilst the other (in the MBP HD) will be used to sync music/apps/photos to my iPhone/iPod nano.
However, at the moment I also have all of my music synced onto my Apple TV, and if I split the library with one containing just movies, all the music will be removed from the Apple TV and I won't be able to keep it up to date with any new albums I put into the iPhone/iPod library. Basically I would like the convenience of having all my music (but not movies) on my MBP hard drive so that I can sync my iPhone without having to connect to the external drive. At the same time, I can't be bothered managing music on two libraries to keep my Apple TV library synchronised with my iPhone library.

I would like to backup the main hard drive, the two portions of the media hard drive all to the backup without splitting the hard drive.

I have a .txt file that is quite long and I need to get some data off of it. The file is made up of a few thousand lines each with a format similar to: 1 2.4 5.4 abcde abc.def, The 1, the 2.4, the 5.4, etc each signify a different value and I need to somehow get them into separate columns into excel. The number of digits in everything except the first value (which is always one digit) varies, and all the values are separated by spaces. What is going to be the easiest way for me to get these values into numbers in separate columns? Realistically, doing this manually isn't an option.

I've got a 500gb internal drive for my iMac (250gb to XP and OSX), but my iTunes library takes up 300gb. 50gb of that is music. What I'd like to do is have my music on my internal drive and keep my videos on the external, which would be powered off (it's rather noisy and doesn't have an auto-power down like my other, smaller HDD's).

I need to invest in a larger screen and updated mac, but I HATE the glare of the screens on imac. I'm a writer - long hours - who has been waiting for Apple to respond to complaints and request for matte screen.Seems like no prospect of it happening soon. Any suggestions/ solutions for someone on a limited budget?

When I start up my iMac the desktop photo only takes up part of the display area in the upper left. The Dock is also showing up on the right side of the desktop photo and not on the right hand side of the screen where it should be. All my desktop file icons are where they should be.
If I switch accounts and switch back the display is back to what it should be. This just started happening in the last week or so and only happens on one account on the computer. I have not made any setup changes or installed any software before this happened but I did install the latest OSX update right before this started happening.

I have a 27" iMac. Just recently, the screen has begun to randomly shut off. I then have to squeeze the power button, followed by a click of the mouse. This will bring me back to my password screen. Sometimes, that would be it, other times, it will do it repeatedly, for no reason, and then settle down.
Just for those of you who are bound to ask me about my Energy saving settings: Computer to sleep – Never. Display to sleep – 15 min.
It seems to me that this could be a hardware issue, but just incase any of you have had any experience of something similar, I thought I would ask.

This just started yesterday (May 31st). I keep everything updated as it comes out and nothing new has been installed in the last couple of days.
When I need I wake up my iMac (now requiring a keystroke or mouse press instead of just moving the mouse), the screen comes up black, but the cursor is there and moves around fine.
It stays black for a while (15 seconds or longer, but it feels like forever) and then it finally comes up completely.

I just got home and I realized the power was out. I bought this iMac literally like two months ago (I actually bought one two months ago but it wouldn't even turn on so they gave me a new one) It was working perfectly fine, and I was writing a report. I left the computer on and left the house only to return hours later with the power out, and when I turn it on it shows the start up screen with the Apple Logo, the little progress circle, and a progress bar that fills up to the end everytime but once it fills up to the end it stays there for a few minutes then the computer shuts off.
