Jun 28, 2009Perhaps this has been answered before but nothing turned up in my search. I'm a Mac convert switching from MS XP, where I was using Word 2007. Over time, I compiled several special dictionaries. If I switch to Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to transfer these from Word 2007?
I understand that Word for Mac does not ahve VBA support, therefore no macros like in Word 2007. Does office 2008 (Word) have some sort of macro capability.

Nov 28, 2010My university wants us all to use RTF files. As I am sure you all know text edit sucks.But it automatically opens all my RTFs.I have to manually get word to open them which is a pain in the ass.How can I fix this so that all RTF's are automatically opened by WORD?I am still on the old version of word because I have to use ENDNOTE - which has no support for Word 2011 right now. I have a copy of 2011 sitting on my desk and I am itching to use it, but I will loose 200+ citations if I do.

Jun 4, 2012My imac became very slow all of a sudden (stalls when clicking and typing), 2-3 mths after Lion (not sure it's related), mount_hfs and syslogd taking up 80-99% of CPU in Activity Monitor.After digging online, checked my Console and found repeating messages exceeding 20,000+++. But I'm not sure what is being repeated (sample below).I've already turned off Time Machine.I was able to delete the syslogd activity, but still left with 99% mount_hfs, which 'maybe' related to the 20,000+++ repeated messages.Not sure if it's relevant...but I was digging through my asl folder, and it is up to 10g for a single date for some reason! Feb 29, 2012I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

Jun 1, 2012I love sync, Calendars, and Mail and would hate to lose them on my Macbook Pro, but it seems that if I upgrade to Lion to operate iCloud, then Word2004 won't work any more. I've tried using Word 2011, but it seems to hang up avery 5 minutes and require a force quit.Â
I hate being forced to choose. I work every day with Word, to prepare reports, notes and manuals for my teaching job. I want somethign that just works, and Word2004 (like Word 5.1 which I used for 12 years before it) works. Word 2011 does not seem to be as reliable.Â

MacBook Pro :: Transferring Files Over WiFi - Fails To Transfer All Files?
Feb 16, 2010I'm banging my head against the wall with this problem. I have a new MBP 13", 4GB Ram, etc etc. When I transfer files across my network (or the office network), it will consistently fail to transfer a few of the files. For instance, I just tried to copy 50 photos to an SMB share on our server here at the office. The transfer window show the progress of 50 files, but when I look at the folder, there are only 48 files. Sometimes I get less, sometimes I get all 50. The same goes for my home network to an SMB share. I've confirmed this failure over N and G networks. The AP at home and the office are different models and I went as far as purchasing a new one for home since I thought it was the problem. Same results. Is there some hardware error going on here with my wifi card? Is there any way to test it? Are the SMB shares the problem?
