OS X Leopard :: Mail Cannot Verify Identity Earthlink SMTP Cert
So, I'm seeing Mail produce a "Verify Certificate" window when Mail tries to connect to smtpauth.earthlink.net. Further verbiage starts "The certificate for this server has expired...". Then I click "Show Certificate" and in the lower pane, the certificate info that appears lists expiration in August, 2011. Clicking one level up in the upper pane, where there is an icon with a white X in a red circle, shows an expired certificate at the "Intermediate certificate authority".

I'm leery of checking the box "always trust "smtpauth..."" and of the options under "Trust" in the lower pane, which are "use system defaults", "always trust", and "never trust". These are all too categorical for my taste. I have no idea if the issue is with Earthlink, Apple, Mail, or something else. I've never seen this issue in many years of using Mail. How do I update the "Intermediate certificate"? shouldn't this be automatic?

I recently started receiving the error "iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "<pick one from the subject line of this post>" .The certificate for this server was signed by an unknown certifying authority. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "<pick one from the subject line of this post>", which could put your confidential information at risk. Would you like to connect to the server anyway?

Mac Safari :: Certificate Warning - Cannot Verify Identity Of Website
At work I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard. Ever since I installed the Safari 4.0.5 update a couple of weeks ago, I get a warning when I try to go to comcast.net web sites:
Safari can't verify the identity of the website "login.comcast.net".

When I click on Show Certificate, it says that the certificate was signed by an unknown authority. The certificate was issued by VeriSign Class 3 Secure Server CA. I don't have this problem on my iMac at home that's running Snow Leopard. I compared the Verisign certificates in my keychains and they look the same on both machines. I can click Continue to get past this, but it's a PITA.

Snow Leopard :: Can't Verify Identity Of Website / Something Corrupted?
In Mail, I recently started getting the message that 'Mail can't verify the identity of my corporate exchange server.' It says "This certificate is not valid (host name mismatch)."

Going to http://exch.corp.earthlink.net the certificate error says the certificate is for a248.e.akamai.net which is definitely a domain-mismatch.

Note that I get the same error if I try to navigate to that site from Firefox or Safari on my Mac. However, I can navigate to the same site from IE (Parallels VM) without getting the error.

Any ideas? Is something corrupted or is there a virus?

OS X Leopard :: Mail Can't Verify The Identity Of "imap.gmail.com"
About a month ago, I started getting this message from my Gmail account when I launch Mail. When I explore the details of the Certificate, it says that pop.gmail.com cannot be verified, although I have the account set up as IMAP. There's nothing POP about. It worked as IMAP for years. On a possibly related front, Gmail is not syncing between my multiple Macs -- if I read a message on one computer, it still is Unread on the other.

Anytime I open the preferences in Mail and click on the "accounts" button, Mail prompts me with the "Mail can't verify the identity of Account" window and asks me to verify the certificate. This wouldn't be a problem, except I deleted the account months ago since I let my domain and account expire. I even opened my keychain and deleted all instances of the domain login details and certificates, and yet it still pops up in Mail. What gives?

ICloud :: Outgoing SMTP For It?
iCloud is now functioning on my MacBook (OS 10.7 Lion), iPhone, but not the iMac (OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard). I converted from MobileMe.  Incoming mail functions with iCloud on the iMac, but I am not able to connect to Outgoing and therefore unable to send outgoing Mail from this computer. The Mail Connection Doctor in Mail Preferences indicates that I am connected to an outgoing SMTP account in Mail. I manually added smtp.iCloud.com.(name). but to no avail. So therefore two questions that may resolve this issue:

(1) what is the correct smtp address for iCloud?

(2) does the iCloud server support SSL?  Please note that I have no idea of what SSL is, but the Mail Connection Doctor advised that I check this out.

Mac Mini :: Verify Disk Versus Verify Disk Permissions
So between today and yesterday I have just been doing some casual maintenance with my Mac Mini. I decided I would run the First Aid program in utilities just to make sure everything is doing well. I was just wondering what is the difference between the two options "Verify Disk" and Verify Disk Permissions"- what exactly do each of them do? It almost sounds self-explanatory but can someone shed some light for me?

I've ran all the verification tests on each hard drive I have and repaired them when needed. So far it has only been my external WD hard drive that needed to have a repair, though I didn't notice anything wrong with it prior to running the verification test. Basically, I'm just wondering what each of the functions do.

But what does it mean and where does this message generate itself?

Mac Pro :: BDR-206DBK Blue Ray Burner Won't Verify A Disc
I just installed a Pioneer Blu-Ray Burner on my MacPro 3,1.  I'm using this burner for data backup.   The first two BD-R's worked using the Finder for burning but soon after that the BD-R's stopped verifying successfully. It will burn but then it gives  me an error like this: Sector 6756448 is unreadable.  Verification failed. 72%  Some things I've tried.

1. Turning off sleep functions for the hard discs.

2. Lowering the burn speed to 2x.

3. Purchasing Toast 11 Titanium to use for burning.

4. Checked firmware and it is the latest. ver 1.06

The other bit of interesting info is that I installed the same drive on a MacPro of similar vintage and had no issues.  More later on those specs.

OS X Leopard :: Mac Mail Inbox And Sent Folders Empty After Recreating My Identity
Recently my ISP mail server may have been hacked, as I found that I was spamming my contact list with links to ads. In the course of troubleshooting this and the aftermath, I found myself following a tech support person's advice and deleting my wife's profile, then recreating it from scratch.

When my wife next logged in to her account, she found that "All the mail is gone!

Needless to say, this is my fault. Apparently, deleting the profile made this happen. I looked at the account on the server using the online (web) app that she refuses to look at, and it appears that all her mail is there.

I marked it all as Unread, and tried to re-DL it from the server, but no dice.

I have restarted the app and tried again, restarted the machine and tried again, put it down and walked away, running errands and looked online for answers and still nothing.

OS X :: Bug In Mac Mail - Using Multiple SMTP Servers
I use mac mail for my mac account and exchange. In preferences for smtp server I have set "only use this server" for each account, ie mac account sent emails end up in mac sent mail box and exchange sent emails end up in exchange sent items box.

The problem now is that despite the fact that I select an account to send a mail, lets say my exchange account, Mail does not send the mail and return a dialog box where I have to select the exchange smtp server manually. This also happens when I send a mac mail, then I have to choose the mac smtp server to send the mail out.

This is highly annoying because your work gets interrupted by this popping up "cannot send mail using the server Mac" messages! Only after selecting the server the message is sent. If I uncheck 'only use this server' then all mails are sent but with the mac server! So my exchange sent items box remains empty.

ICloud :: Some Contacts Not Syncing - Have Checked 'on My Mac'
I have a mac mini, a macbook, iphone and ipad. I upgraded from mobileme to icloud recently.

on my mac mini i have 833 contacts, I am syncing with iCloud, but icloud is only showing 750 contacts.

I have checked my mac mini for a group that says 'on my mac' and i don't have one, it's not showing in my group list which means that theres no contacts in there.

Under the iCloud group on my mac mini, when i click 'All contacts' the missing contacts are in there. (these include my boyfriend and my dad!) yet these contacts are not on icloud.com, my iphone or ipad...

I seem to have baffled iCloud support and am still waiting for a resolution

Is there some way they may be in an 'on my mac' account and not showing somehow? but then i dont understand how they'd appear under all contacts in the icloud account.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: SMTP Relaying For Virtual Email Accounts?
We are a small company that just recently started using Lion Server for a few simple services. We've been pretty happy with it and are considering trying to host our email on it as well, as we've had a little trouble lately with our hosted email being rejected as spam (since they're shared services). It seems to work correctly in a controlled environment on test email accounts that I've created, but I'm having trouble figuring out if it's possible to allow smtp relaying from a device (cell phone, tablet, computer) outside of the local network when the sending from is a virtual address.

Basically, it seems "user@company1.com" can send from devices off the network and authentication allows them to. However, we have two sister companies that we need email for as well. I would like them to be able to send messages from "user@company2.com" or "user@sister3.com."

When I try to send from one of those test accounts on an iphone outside of the local network, it says "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipent "recipient@addressee.com" was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying." If I add the specific IP address of that device to my allowed relay list, the message sends with no problem. Obviously, I don't want wide ranges of IP addresses allowed to use the relay service. Is there no way to allow relaying from any IP address based on an authenticated user?

ICloud :: Can't Use .mac Address?
My main email is a gmail address but I would like to start using my Apple mail more frequently. I have moved services to iCloud. I use OS X Lion for my Macbook and iOS 5 for my iPhone. My apple account is still myname@mac.com and this address is still listed as "verified" in account settings. When MobileMe came along I mainly used the "@me" affix but I still occasionally sent mails using @mac, selecting it in from the drop down menu in Mail.Recently I tried the same, selected to send from myname@mac.com but got the following error message:And when I tried to sent an email to myself from my gmail I received the following error message:"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently..Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: myname@mac.com (state 13)."The myname@me.com works as it should, operating normally in iCloud. Is there any way I could use the ".mac" affix? I now think that this makes for a more handsome address than the more egocentric "@me".
