Mar 17, 2009I'm having a hard-to-explain problem. It seems that the date 05/01/2008 is everywhere. I bought my IMac in June of 2008 and I don't recall having this problem before. I'm a British user, so my iMac should be set at DD/MM/YYYY. I don't know whether this refers to a day in January or May. I wouldn't know where to search on the internet to see if a certain application or malware causes this glitch, but I thought someone on the forums might know.
A few recurrences of 05/01/2008 include:
All of the podcasts in my iTunes including Apple Keynotes, Quick Tips, Will it Blend and MacFormat have a release date of 05/01/2008
In System Profiler, below the titlebar, there is [my name]'s iMac and to the right the date 05/01/2008 18:26. Does anyone know what this date is a reference to? Could this be the day it was made?
I tried searching for files made on that day, but Find, didn't let me enter in a date in the field! Just for the record, I'm running 10.5.6 on a 2.4ghz iMac - the one released before the latest refresh.
Intel Mac :: Running Constantly Hot - Changed The Hard Drive But It Is Running Hot?
Mar 5, 2012I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen.
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc drive

Mar 21, 2012my 4 year old IMac 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo with 2gb running 10.7.3 has been running really slow since I installed photoshop CS4 and upgraded to lion ( I have 137gb of free space on hard drive) I mean it wont quit out of photoshop I always have to do a force quit and most applications run really slow. Do I need a new computer , what should I go for to have a smooth running mac?Was thinking of a new IMac 27-inch: 2.7GHz with 4gb memory.

Aug 1, 2009I just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

For example, when it's time to remind me of a monthly meeting on Oct. 15, 2009, I'll get a whole laundry list of reminders dating back to, say, March 15, 2008. I've tried eliminating the Calendar Cache but that didn't help.

May 8, 2012I've been experiencing recurring kernel panics for at least a month now and I seem to have narrowed down the issue to the RAM. Now I'm just not sure whether it's corrupt kernel files associated with the RAM or the actual hardware itself. I've run the extended apple hardware test and the error message I recieve (within 5 seconds) is that the error is with the file 4MEM/1/40000000:0x84938218 I've downloaded memtest and run that within terminal. Funny thing about that is as soon as I type "memtest all" my macbook kernel panics almost immediately. Something about the "memory lock-up" phase".
Other than that my computer works fine as long as I don't run too many applications at once. Often times video streaming or opening too many tabs in a web browser will do it. And you can forget about running games that will kernel panic almost immediately. here's an example of the logs I've been getting. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Recurring Kernel Panic On MacBook Pro
Apr 13, 2012This issue just started a couple of days ago. I noticed something weird happening when I watching a YouTube video - the video stopped playing but the sound kept on going like nothing was wrong. Anyway I ran the Apple Hardware Test yet it detected no problems. I even went through the extended test just to make sure. I originally got this machine as Snow Leopard but upgrading to Lion.
Basically what happens is the whole screen freezes and i reboot and I am able to go about its business until the next freeze. The times that I have came back into the room to see it froze up was when the screensaver had turned on or when I was playing any kind of game it seems like it had frozen up(one time playing a game in VMWARE (windows xp). I dont know if this could be a GPU issue or not.

Jul 1, 2014I'm invited to a recurring event (a weekly meeting), which is an event sent by someone else that I accepted, so it shows up on my calendar. However, I can't seem to set an alert on it, so I either sometimes overlook the meeting start time or I have to create a whole new calendar event just so I can set an alert.

Jun 6, 2012I have set my zoom to default in safari and the font sizes in Preferences should be set to the default. In most websites I visit that have a navigation bar at the top, I can't read even read the word within the button. The font is abnormally large. When I use the zoom font only feature it doesn't change much. When I use the regular zoom commands, all the graphics zoom like normal, but any the font of any of the links remains huge. So large that a lot of websites are unusable b/c all the links run together. This issue is on an 10.7 using safari 5.1.

Jun 2, 2014I'm having a major fontbook problem on my imac as of yesterday. I'm a graphic designer and for me this is an aboslute nightmare - a horror story. I lost all of my downloaded fonts yesterday (i opened font book because it didn't upload a new font that i had downloaded and wanted to see what was going on) and got the shock of my life. I am now having major issues with this software. On top of losing all of my downloaded fonts, I can't upload any new fonts anymore and for some reason it now has alot of chinese/hebru fonts loaded into it which is baffling.

Mar 25, 2012Any way to increase this? With my screen at full resolution the print is very small and gives me headaches very quickly, so I have to set it to 1920x1080. I switched to Imac for processing photographs, so the advantage of a good quality screen is somewhat wasted. Also, at the lower resolution, the print is not so sharp.
