I put my ibook to sleep yesterday with 30% battery and when I got home that evening and hooked in the charger it still wont turn on. I have taken the batter out and back in. the front light is not pulsing. the button on the back near the batter shows around 30% when pressed. What gives? no engine sound, nothing.

This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.
a friend of mine with an ibook g4 1.4 ghz, Is having some troubles as he described it to me; an apple comes on the screen and blinks off
then the screen turns white the whole screen then it turns red then blue then green every 3 seconds do you guys have any idea what this could be he is out of the apple warranty.
Here's a fun one for you guys. My teacher in my class (tech school for computers and networking) acquired an old iBook, 14 inch. He has no idea what model it is, or what the specs are. He gave it to me to try to repair, being the only Mac guy in the Here's the deal. It charges the battery, and but won't turn on. I tried the PMU reset.

View 13 Replies View RelatedBasically, the iBook G4 (last revision) will not turn on. What is happening I press the power button, the iBook chimes, HDD makes its regular "computer was just turned on" noises and then the computer sits at the Grey Screen and the little swirly loading thing comes up and nothing else happens. What happened before the issue I was browsing the web last night and before turning it off for the night I ran MainMenu's batch tasks. I have been using MainMenu for several months with zero issues up till now. My sister said she needed to use my computer for a few minutes so I turned it back on. It sat at the Grey Screen for 15 minutes so I force shut down and tried again. After another 15 minutes I went to bed (it was getting late) and left it to see what happened over night. Somewhere in my 8 hours of sleep the computer gave up and turned itself off. I have not heard any tell-tale signs of an HDD failure - no clicking, buzzing or scratchy noises. Possible Culprits UNO - has been installed for over a month but it does have access to system files so I'm not clearing its name. MainMenu - Been using for a while but it was the last thing I did before the problem arose. What I've done to fix it - Reset the PMU by pressing Shift + Option + Control + Power Button - Boot off restore disk and repaired the disk in Disk Utility. The volume bit map and volume information needed repair. is the poor sucker dead?

Yesterday it started going really slow and pressing the power button wasn't bringing up the usual options, so I held the power button to switch it off. On turning it back on it got stuck on the screen with the Apple logo and spinner for a long time so again I powered it off with the holding of the button. I then let it cool down (it was really hot) but now when I switch it on the spinner spins around 6 times then it turns itself off. It is still chiming. I'm away from home and don't have any discs - anything I can try or is it time for the Genius bar?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI bought an ibook a little while ago because I wanted a small, simple notebook and I love my home iMac. I found one for a good price on eBay and when it arrived everything seemed ok. I wanted to re-install the OS and set everything to my specifications because I was having a little trouble with some of the apps. Anyway, I went through the lengthy re-install and just as it finished counting down the seconds to completion, it shut down. I thought it might be in sleep mode because the little white light was on, so I hit a key and the light went off but nothing happened. Nothing on the screen, no HD noise, nothing. I'm at a loss because I really don't know much at all about hardware or software, which is why I liked the user-friendly Mac so much. The only thing that tells me it's getting power is the little green light at the power connector. I tried a PMU reset (there's no reset button on my model so it was a button combo of shift-ctrl-option-power I think) but that didn't do anything.

This was fine for a while but now it won't turn on, whenever I try to turn it on it just comes up with a grey screen and wont load. I have important information on my Mac which is vital to the course I am studying, I have tried turning it to hard drive mode to try and get the information from it but it doesn't show up on my other mac.
My ibook G4 died last night. After having some trouble with the battery (i have to replace it), the laptop finally did'nt turned on never again. Although is plugged with the power cord, the computer does'nt make any sound and it does'nt turn on, it does'nt even sound the cooling fan spining.

1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.

What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
I have an iBook (running OS X Tiger) which is wirelessly connected to a home network via a wireless router. On this network I have a Windows PC to which a HP Laserjet 1010 is connected via USB. I would like to be able to share this printer on the Windows PC so that I can print from the iBook.I have set file and print sharing options on the Windows PC. I have then added a new printer in OS X over 'Windows Printing'. OS X sees the printer and allows me to add it after puting in a username and password (I used the 'Guest' username). However when I try and print from the iBook the printer initialises and then procedes to print "%!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1 %%..." and then lots of random letters. I thought that this looked like the iBook wasn't using the right drivers and after checking it appears it is using Generic Printer drivers.

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.

So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

I have tried restarting a lot of times and I have let it stay on in sleep mode for a while, nothing seems to work. I have had the problem occassionally where my MBP won't wake from sleep but it usually works after I restart it. Is there anything I can do to get my MBP working properly?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have read over and over how many users have sleeping issue problems. The way I look at it is just leave your computer on. Mine runs 24 hrs. a day 365 days a year. I never put it to sleep. Yes you well save a little hydro but your problems will go away. When I am not sitting at the computer I turn off the monitor. I have done this for the last 10 years on the PC and since Feb.14 on my new MacPro without any issues. So in my opinion, leave your Macs on and turn off your monitors when not in use.

I'll keep my old 17" ACD as a second monitor, but I won't need to use it that much and would prefer to power it off when it's not in use.
Is there a way to do that? (I touched the power button for almost 15 seconds and it didn't turn off.)
