View 3 RepliesSo in Windows you can do tuneups by cleaning the C:/ and stuff. For some reason my Macbook all of the sudden wants to take 3 minutes to shut down, instead of the normally 15 seconds. Is there anyway I can clean up my computer to get this back?

been meaning to sort my itunes library out for months, to get all the album artwork and sort out all the album names.
noticed tune up advertised on macrumors for a while but can't find any solid reviews.
I wasnt able to find anything on google and I know absolutely nothing about sound and tuning or anything like that but i have these really crappy cheap desktop speakers (im talkin no brand name like 8 years old that came with an old pc) and until i can afford new ones im wondering the best way to tune them such as:
-Best macbook pro output volume
-Best volume on the speakers
-Best base setting on speakers
-Best treble setting on speakers
ITunes cannot connect to the tuning service.I've not had problems in the past.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know the specifics, or have a specific opinion, regarding the use of Cocktail or Mac Tune Up? I have the trial of Cocktail based on the recommendation from MacLIfe, but I see that my local Best Buy carries the Mac Tune Up application. There is a minimal price difference so I ask, what would you use, if any?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhile our Macbook Pro and PC zoom along in everything, our old G4 DP 1 GHZ running 10.14.11 on the same connection is really sluggish and has gotten worse with time. I know this machine, I have had it running since 2001! For the web, I am using Firefox most of the time. Though I clear all cache and history each time I quit Firefox, today I cleared out my security certificates and either I am on drugs or it made a difference in page loading.
Still, the old girl seems a little slow all around, not just on the web. It is almost as if it were a PC that has gotten bogged down with adware, but we know that can't be true - right? Not since the bad old days of 7, 8 and 9 have I ever had to reinstall a system and I doubt that is called for here.
So, where is the best place to find any and all tips to clean up and speed up an old Mac that has a lot of life and usefulness left?
i am looking to get some but unsure on which is the best on out there.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'll be ordering RAM from OWC for hex core 3.33 mac pro in the next few days. I can't spend $1k at once on 24GB, so I'm thinking of getting just 2x8GB for now and get the extra stick in about 2 months or so.
I know theres about 25% or so theoretical bandwidth loss with just two sticks, but what's the real, noticeable performance hit vs 3...if there is any?
After some difficulty upgrading my 4HD RAID0 2.66 MP to SL I've discovered my full screen Hulu and WB browser video is choppy if I use a full screen pop out window. If i go full screen it works fine. I've checked my Internet speed and it is as good as ever. I have not changed my config. of three LCD screens or any other hardware. This problem happens in both Safari and Firefox. I did have to reset the PRAM in order for the SL installer to see my RAID0 HD per Applecare. The bottom line is I used to be able to watch Hulu via a pop up expanded to the edges of my 24# LCD, and surf using one of my 22 inch screens. Now I can't unless I want the video and audio dialog to sych. I did confirm the the main Radeon 3870 card is still running at 16X. Could this be driver problems?

View 13 Replies View RelatedSo I just installed the Apple ATI Radeon HD 4870 in my 2.66 quad Mac Pro1 1. Everything seems to be great but when I ran Cinebench I noticed that it is running OpenGL Engine, 2.0 ATI-1.5.48. In the results I see another 4870 with higher scores running OpenGL Engine, 2.1 ATI-1.6.6. My question is this. Is there something I should update for better performance? Is this a difference in cards, OS, drivers, firmware?
Well? Is there anyone using the 11.6" as the primary computer? If there is, post your thoughts here. Is the screen too small? How is the performance for your day to day tasks?

View 14 Replies View RelatedHas anyone tried running multiple virtual machines on these guys yet? I'm looking to run base installs of different OS's for my InfoSec classes. I'm really just testing different security configurations nothing fancy.
I'm looking at the 11.6/1.4/4gb of ram. Most of the time I'm only running 2 Virtual machines, just want to know if it can handle them.
I've seen some people have got win7 to run which is cool but the second os running is critical in this scenario.
I wan' t to replace my 160 GB MacBook Pro drive with a 1 TB drive for storage and better performance (7200 rpm disk) can anyone suggest me a model with good performance and also a low noise level?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm thinking about buying a 13" mba to be my computer everywhere i go, but I have some doubts about it's performance because there are a lot of different opinions around the web.
It will not be my primary machine, since I have a sony vaio F (heaavyy for carryng around!) and a powerful desktop for gaming and rendering, but i will ocasionally need to do some work on adobe cs5, autocad, and google sketchup light work on the mba. Have you guys ever tried one of this programs? how is the performance?
I currently got the 5870 driving a 30" ACD and 23" ACD. Would there be any noticeable performance increase if I were get the gt120 to run the 23" and have 5870 run the 30" ACD (my work display)?
View 18 Replies View RelatedAnyone know if there exists a utility for 10.4 which replicates the "System Prefs.. Energy Saver.. Options.. Processor Performance" option but in a more accessible way? I tend to switch modes fairly often, so ideally I'd like a little menubar icon which I could click to toggle performance modes, or maybe a dock icon. No widgets please

View 24 Replies View RelatedMy PowerBook 12" 1.5G has 100% CPU usage when playing back the new TV program from iTunes store. And sometimes it even choke.
While I have no virus scanning software, some programs running such as Opera, iTunes, Entourage and have about 20% CPU usage when idle.
Why is it so slow on a PowerBook while you can actually play that video on an iPod? Is it the iPod too powerful or it is just because apple did not optimize enough for older Macs (pushing people to new hardware)?
I have just ordered a new iMac but I am not happy about my PowerBook which is just one year old.
I just ordered a new Mac Pro 2.8 with the primary purpose of doing video editing on Final Cut. (5-45 min. videos here and there). Because of my budget, I cannot afford the the $800 price tag on the apple raid card but I would like to optimize my rendering and writing times. A lot of the forums I have read do not distinguish between software raid and hardware raid.
So here's my 2 questions.
1. Will I benefit from using the software raid in Disc Utility or would I be better off just using a separate scratch/write disc?
2. With such a fast processor and 3 gig Sata HDs, will raid 0 improve speed enough to make a significant performance jump anyway?
I would use a separate hd for my programs and regular files.
I have an older Ti-Book G4 800MHz Dvi, and I wanted to expand the ram and wanted to make sure that this ram i found would work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally bought my Mac Pro last week, and needless to say it continues to impress me. I was transferring some files from my 1tb Seagate 7200.11 to my boot drive consisting of two 74gb Raptors in software raid 0. Since i've had it, the 4gb files have always transferred at about 60mb/s, but tonight the speed somehow managed to double to a maximum of 127mb/s (and a sustained 100mb/s). Why would the transfer rate double in speed?
