Snow Leopard :: Software Will Not Recognize Scanner

For over a year I used my Macbook as my primary computer, running 10.5.8. It was connected to an HP Photosmart C4280 All-in-one printer/scanner. I used Adobe CS3 Photoshop and Acrobat Professional to scan photos and documents without problem. Recently I bought a new iMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.2). I transferred all data and programs using a Firewire. This process went smoothly except for one small glitch. My desktop prints to the HP printer fine, but when I try to scan anything, either through Photoshop or Acrobat, I get the error message "HP Scan Pro Error Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)" I've tried un- and re-installing the Adobe software, but this had no effect.

My scanner previously worked and the error message I get is that the scanner cannot be initialized. I have a MacBook, OS 10.5 and HP C4385 All-In-One. I have rebooted computer, uninstalled the HP software, reinstalled 9.7.1 and shut off the HP Driver update of 1.1.1. But it still does not work. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Force 10.7 To Recognize And Install Current Scanner?
Suddenly, my scanner disappeared from Print & Scan | System Preferences. The maker warns me specifically NOT to use the CD that came with the scanner. So I downloaded a new driver, installed it . and System Preferences | Print & Scan will only offer me the option to deal with my printer. No scanners appear, though I've rechecked the connection, and restarted my system. Data: Mine is a MacBook Pro, and the scanner is Epson "Perfection" V300 Photo.

Snow Leopard :: Scanner / Fax That Works?
Anyone want to suggest a laser scanner/fax machine/printer (all in one) that works in 10.6 - one that simply 1) will scan from a document feeder so that multi-pages can be made/saved into one PDF on any computer on the network and sent to clients (absolutely the most important feature); 2) one that will act as a simple old time Fax that plugs into the AT&T wall outlet so I can send and receive Fax's the old fashioned way (also important); and 3) that I can print from if my other network printer needs a breather? Must be something that is networkable (Airport) OR at worst - for scanning - something that I can plug into one iMac and access from others across the network (this last need is for scanning only - scans can be dragged and dropped to other computers if need be).

My HP Color LaserJet CM 2320 nf MFP is not going to do it for scanning with 10.6 and I need something that will work like a mule (HP support has no idea if or when a scan driver will be available for that device - and the dadgum thing is only 14 months old with a 3 year "CarePack").

Snow Leopard :: HP Scanjet 4070 Scanner ?
I have seen a great deal about printers and all-in-ones, but little regarding stand-alone scanners. This scanner is attached to my Mac Pro8-core running 10.6.1.

Does anyone have a good work around or info on Drivers from Apple or HP? Right now my work-around is to use my Mac Book Pro running the latest version of Leopard. That's a bit slow for large, hi-rez images though.

If no drivers, can anyone recommend a good stand-alone scanner? I do not like all-in-ones - they seem to be masters of none.....

Snow Leopard :: HP Printer / Scanner Not Working With 10.6
I have a late 2009 MacBook Pro running 10.6.2. The printer, an HP 2350 All-in-One, was working, but the scanner was not. Then the printer stopped working. I got an "error" message in the print queue box. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, downloaded updated software, deselected and reselected the printer (in which I received the message some software was missing), did all the various unplugging, replugging, etc., etc. The scanner gives the message that another program is controlling the scanner. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Now instead of "error" in the print queue it says "printing", but nothing happens.

OS X :: Can't Share My Scanner In Snow Leopard 10.6.2
I know that snow leopard was supposed to make scanner sharing easier, but this just isn't happening for me!! Its really odd.

I have two imacs (24" and 27" brand new one). The scanner is hooked up to the 27" imac and both computers are running 10.6.2

The 24 is networked to the 27. We share files and can share printers. I have had no problem with me printing to his computer and him printing to mine.

We also can both move files back and forth to each other without an issue.

We have opened the system preferences on the 27" imac and selected "scanner sharing" and then we can see the scanner that is hooked to that computer and selected it. Then we closed the lock icon to keep it that way. The preferences should be all set.

HOWEVER, i still can not import from the scanner and can not see the scanner from my computer.

ALSO, when we open IMAGE CAPTURE on the computer that is directly connected to that scanner, I can see the scanner under devices, but it does not show under shared devices.

It used to be that you can set the sharing in the image caputer program - apparently now you can not.. but in trying to make it easier, it seems something got lost.

I just read through three pages of google results when searching this forum and nothing.. just a load of threads saying that Snow Leopard CAN, in fact, share a scanner..

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Computer Cannot See Scanner
My computer cannot see my scanner.I am using a UMAX 1220U flatbed scanner. It's connected by a USB cable. It has worked in the past with both Graphic Converter and Image Capture Version 6.0.1 (428).It has never worked with VueScan. Now, today, it won't work at all.Image Capture reports that no camera or scanner is connected. For drivers I use the SANE backends and frontends that I got from When Image Capture works, I see the SANE icon up in the "Devices" section of the column on the left. When Image Capture does not work, I do not see the SANE caption there.I have experimented with the USB cable, unplugging it and replugging it at both the computer and the scanner. I have moved the cable to different ports on the computer without success.

I have tried unplugging the power cord to the scanner for a while and then replugging the power cable. That has worked in the past, but not in the last two days.Today I redownloaded and reinstalled the SANE software again. It did not work.System Profiler does not list the scanner in the USB Device Tree.

Snow Leopard :: HP Scanner Not Initializing With IMac Or MBP
HP Scanner will not initialize with Snow Leopard using iMac or MacBook Pro. A work around has been found. Insert a memory stick into the front of the all-in-one HP. I used a 64MB in the MS/DUO slot. Press scan menu. Select the option--Scan To Memory Card. Printer should already be connected via USB to the computer. This should open iPhotos on the computer.

Once the scan is complete, select Import All on the bottom right of iPhotos. After that the option becomes available to email. Select full size. The computer then opens client email with the scanned image prepared to email. Printer function is not affected with the upgrade to Snow Leopard; it is just the scanner which will not initialize.

Snow Leopard :: Cannot Use Scanner Function In Wireless Network
I just added a new mac mini to my working place to my MBP15" (2008) and plugged the brother DCP-7030 printer to the time capsule which I use as wireless network. It was easy to set up the wireless printing for both computers. Since this is a laser printer/scanner combination I would like to use the scanner function wireless (otherwise I have to unplug and plug everytime I want to scan from one or the other macs), but there is no way to set it up or make it work in any way. With the cable attached to both computers no problem. Is it not possible to scan in a wireless network?

Hardware :: HP Scanner No Longer Works With Snow Leopard?
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.1). I have an HP DeskJet F4280 All-In-One. It used to work great under 10.5.x, but now it will print fine but not scan.

If I launch HP Device Manager, and double-click Scan Picture, HP Scan Pro window opens, but I get the following error: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found.).

If I press the hardware Scan button on the top of the unit itself, the power light blinks rapidly for about 10 seconds, then reverts to its normal state, and nothing else happens.

If I launch Image Capture 6.0(424) I get this error: No camera or scanner connected.

Under System Preferences>Print & Fax>Scan a window opens that reads HP Deskjet F4200 series and I click on Scanner, but it says No scanner selected.

However, System Profiler lists Deskjet F4200 series under USB High-Speed Bus, and, as already mentioned, the printer works fine.

Hardware :: Seeking Flatbed Scanner For Snow Leopard?
I have an old Epson Stylus CX5400 all-in-one which works fine for my organization's occasional scanning needs (that's all we use it for). However, it's big and bulky and I'd rather replace it with something small that's more convenient to store and transport. I could probably get $50 for it on eBay.

What replacement do you recommend? I've checked out Epson's v30 and v300 and Canon's LiDE 100 so far. Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard compatibility would be best, though only the latter two are essential. I'd like not to spend more than $80.

Snow Leopard :: Canon LiDE Scanner Drivers Installation
I see there are many threads about LiDE (20/30/80 etc) Canoscan scanners no longer working under Snow Leopard. I had so much trouble and so many re-installs that I was wondering if 64-bit was never going to function with the old (2003) Canon software and drivers. My error was rudimentary - I failed to properly uninstall the scanner driver before I reinstalled. Here's how to clean install LiDE software: Go to the website and get the 2008 or 2009 downloads: [URL]

Start with selecting your Canon scanner series. Next click "OS" and then "OS X". The next part is annoying in that you have to download 3 things, but each one requires a licence "agreement" - and the refreshed page is a little clumsy to work. When you have downloaded the latest software - use the Canon uninstall software first. It takes a few minutes to finish, but it will finish. Next install the ToolBox software so that the Driver will have a place to go later. Next install the Driver.

I believe you can do the above if you already have the ToolBox (without removing the ToolBox). Just properly uninstall the Driver and then install the newest 2008 or 2009 Driver from the Canon website. My mistakes from the beginning were: 1.) to install old drivers, then to 2.) install the newer Driver over the old Driver, or 3.) to install the Driver first (before the ToolBox). I was so surprised when it finally worked - I couldn't believe these details matter.

Snow Leopard :: Scanner Not Found - Unknown Device Plugged In
I just picked up a used Nikon Coolscan 4000 from a friend. I purchased Vuescan and started scanning. Everything was going fine, then I left the house for a couple hours and my computer went to sleep. Because I had been doing some big scans and had lots of applications running, I decided to reboot the computer. Upon reboot, the scanner stopped working. System profiler sees the scanner plugged in, although it shows as "device unknown", but it detects something is plugged in. Now, neither Vuescan nor Image Capture recognizes the scanner plugged in.

I went into my VMware XP machine to try it, and it also doesn't see the scanner, although on the windows side, it could be a driver issue. I plugged the scanner into a friends Mac Pro tower and tried Image Capture and it didn't see it either, although system profiler showed a firewire device connected. I've never seen any firewire device have a connection problem before (old school ipod, video cameras, card reader, external isight, firewire drives). I've powered off the scanner and computer multiple times in different order to see it would somehow reset itself.
