Snow Leopard :: File Named Client Node Appears On Desktop

I was have some problems earlier with a very, very slow MacBookPro which wouldn't shut down. Every program interrupted Log Out. When I finally restarted, a file named "client node" appeared on my Desktop. It's a quite large file (1.23G). I tried to trash it, but Trash won't accept it. Is it important, can it be thrown out?

Does anyone know where the folder 'client node' comes from. It's actually a folder that you can open. Can't delete it. If you put something in it, you can't see it anymore.

OS X :: After Downloading And Opening An .rar File A File Named .DS_Store Appeared On Desktop?
I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Share File/send Link To External Client
I'm looking for the best method of securely sharing and/or sending large files (big Keynote documents and videos) to external clients. Basically a YouSendIt-type solution, but hosted and running off of my OS X Server.

What I'd like to be able to do is generate a secure URL for an individual file that can be emailed to a client. I would prefer not to have them need a username/password, but just be able to click and download from the link.

Snow Leopard :: Library Folder Wrongly Named
I installed Snow leopard a few months ago and mostly its working fine. One problem that I am having is with an app not being able to store its prefs (so I need to re-enter the registration code each time I use it).

After some investigations, according to their support, the file should be stored in;"Your disk" / Library / Frameworks /

but my MacBook Pro has the following path;Macbook Pro / G4Library / Frameworks /I'm not sure why the folder is called G4Library and not Library (Im pretty sure I didnt rename it!).Do I need to re-install 10.6? or can I rename the folder somehow or can anyone else suggest a solution?

Snow Leopard :: Create A New .DS_Store File For Desktop?
I have an account, in this case it is the System Administrator account (which I seldom use), where the Desktop icons all scrunch up to the right side of the screen. I can re-arrange them, but when I log out and sign back on, the icons are shifted back to the right side of the screen. I thought perhaps I had a corrupted .DS_Store file that needed to be removed. However, it turns out that I can find no .DS_Store file to remove for this account. Finder just doesn't seem to be able to create a new one. I'm not sure how or when the old one disappeared.

Any suggestions how I can get the Finder or something else to create a new .DS_Store for the Desktop so that icons will stay put?

Snow Leopard :: File / Folder Names On Desktop Appear Shortened
Files and folders on the Desktop appear with short names regardless of actual length.For example, "Macintosh HD" appears as "M...D", "untitled folder" appears as "u...r", etc. Here's a screenshot.This issue appeared after putting the machine to sleep, then waking 15 minutes later. The only things that I've done since then are to create a new folder to test the phenomenon, zap the PRAM, and write this post. The PRAM zap had no effect.

Any ideas or suggestions before I start poking around (and screw something up )?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To File Sync Between Desktop And Laptop
On the MS Small Business Server system I normally use for Windows clients, there is a built-in file sharing scheme that automatically synchronizes user document files from desktop to the server. If a user's laptop is plugged in, it can also sync document files continuously. Thus, when a person leaves the office and has his laptop, they have all of the docs they need from the server. When changes are made on the road, and the user returns to the office and syncs, the changes are automatically populated to both the server files and to their desktop.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Need VPN For Remote Desktop And File Share
I've set up server and have the VPN working, I think, I need to have several outside systems join the servers VPN permanently to allow for file sharing and remote desktop. I don't want the "normal" internet browsing to go through the VPN (huge slow down) I have read that a "split DNS" or "split tunnel" is what I need, then to disable "send all traffic over VPN connection" option on each remote system. I was a little confused after reading on how to do this on Leopard server (the only instructions I found) but have absolutely no idea on how to do this on Snow Leopard server (the server I set up is 10.6).

OS X :: Apple's Mac 10.6 Code Named "Snow Leopard" - Report
Apple is indeed well into the development of Mac OS X 10.6, which the company has internally code-named "Snow Leopard," according to ArsTechnica. Citing a person familiar with the situation, the technology website confirms several details of the next major Mac OS X upgrade first reported on Tuesday, including a scheduled release as soon as Macworld 2009 this coming January, and that it will not introduce any major new features.

Instead, Snow Leopard is said to focus heavily on performance optimization and security, a move that will in all likelihood widen the gap between Mac OS X and Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system in those areas. "Things like the MacBook Air, iPhone, iPod touch, and other mysterious devices that have yet to be announced need better performance for better battery life, and that's definitely something Apple wants to excel at in the years to come," wrote Ars' Jacqui Cheng. Unconfirmed is whether the software will be shown off or discussed at the company's annual developers conference next week. However, AppleInsider in recent weeks has been told to expect discussion of "another big cat" at the event................

OS X Leopard :: Time Machine Appears To Leave The Backup File Open?
WHS error message --> (Conflict: File is Open) with the Time Machine backup file.

WHS = Windows Home Server

Is there any way to get the Mac Time Machine software to close the backup file when not in use? I use the HP MSS with WHS to store my Time Machine backup file. The WHS complains (Conflict: File is Open) when the backup file has been open for more than 24 hours because it is not able to do its regular "house keeping" tasks. If I shut down the Mac Time Machine software and dismount the share drive where it is stored and then run a DE (Drive Extender & Drive Balancing) on the WHS this does clear the error.

So if there is a way in the Time Machine software (or via some scripts) to close the backup file when it is not in use that would be very helpful. I prefer to leave my Mac running 24x7 so turning it off is not a good option to solve this problem.

Snow Leopard :: No Overview Appears On Scan
I was just doing some scanning in Image Capture for the first time since my networked HP 2510 regained that ability in November, and from my account on my computer, found that I was getting no overview. I didn't realize at first that there should be - so, thinking it was poor software design but I'd work around it, I set the scan area to 8.5x11, figuring it would just scan the whole scanner glass area & I'd cut out what I didn't want if it were less than a full page. But that didn't work; it would just scan some (random to my eye) part of the image, not the whole page. ("Detect separate images" was unchecked.)

So basically scanning is not practically functional in my account. I tried opening the scanner from my husband's computer, and there was the overview! An area could be selected, and the selected area scanned correctly. Next I tried his account on my computer - that worked, too. So it's just my account. In my library, I threw away all the image capture plists and anything with scan in its name (those were all HP pref files). I removed the printer, reinstalled the HP printer driver package of November, and added the HP back to the list of printers. I didn't expect that to work, and it didn't. I'd really like to scan without switching accounts.
