Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Remote Command Line Installation

I try to install Snow Leopard Server on a xserve without display. I would like to make this installation as I made a 10.5 installation, using CLI and sa_srchr utility. But I cannot find it on my computer (I've installed the Admin Tools on it). Is this feature disappears from 10.6 Server?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Upgrading From 10.5 Via Command Line
Can anybody tell me what package(s) should be installed when upgrading a 10.5 server to 10.6? I don't need any of the language kits or printer drivers or X11, just the basic install option. I'd like to install the packages via command line, but there are a few that look relevant and I'm not sure which ones to install.

These look promising:
MacOSXServerInstall.mpkg
MacOSXServerInstall.pkg
OSInstall.mpkg
OSInstall.pkg

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Send Mail From The Command Line
I am sitting with a Snow Leopard Server and want to send email using the mail command in some shell scripts and PHP scripts.

The server is sitting on the intranet and handles all internal mail and sends external mail through our ISP... everything works fine.

But I am not able to get the mail command to send any mail... neither does any PHP script that runs on the server! The file /var/log/mail.log is empty?

What is going on here? I am used to servers that do handle internal mail out of the box and allow scripts to send notifications to an administrator! Nothing of this seems to work.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Submitting Title Via Command Line
So I'm submitting files via command line. All is working well but I need to set the Title and description on the fly from a script. So I'm attempting to use the title and description options. But the submission fails when I do. Anybody out there make this work on 10.6.4?

Example below:
podcast -s my.server.com -u user -p password --submit --file /path/to/file --workflow "Workflowname" --title "my new podcast --description "This is the Description".

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Starting Over - To Reconfigure A Remote Server From Scratch?
With no experience at all with OS X server, I bought and remotely deployed a new mini server running 10.6.5. Spent some quality time learning how this beast works, and now that I've made most of my mistakes, I want to wipe out the existing configuration and start over with an essentially virgin setup.

I must be missing something basic, as I don't see any obvious way of doing this. I did try running the setup assistant from Server Admin (remotely), but am stymied as SA reports that the server is already configured and won't let me go further.

The machine is colocated at macminicolo.com, and I do have Remote Desktop installed so digging into the machine shouldn't be an issue. I also have a FQDN for the machine with its own A record.

So, how I can I wipe out the existing server configuration and start over?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Can't Apple Server Host Multiple Remote Sessions
On my old Unix system, we had multiple users logged on and working at the same time, using X-windows to run applications from dumb terminals. That is, several people could be anywhere in the world and interact through the network, seeing the windows that come up just as if they were logged on locally. I know I can do a VNC/remote-desktop kind of thing with an Apple Server, but it's only one user at a time; if OS X is a unix-like system under the hood, what is it missing that prevents multiple users from being logged on and using the Mac remotely from a thin client terminal?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Options For Remote Access To Files
I'm planning on adding a mini server to our network, serving a very small office. I expect to run services pretty much out of the box using Server Assistant to administer. I had thought Mobile Access Server would let me get to our files on the server from outside the local network. I understand that I will need 2 machines running OSX Server to use MAS (does that require 2 separate server licenses?), but will this even provide access to files? The closer I look, it seems like MAS just lets remote clients participate in iCal, Address Book and other such services. Simple access to files is not part of it. If that's correct, does that mean VPN is the next best tool for remote access to files?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cloning Mac OS X To Remote Location
A Mac Mini running Mac OS X Server is in location A and a second Mac Mini running Mac OS X Server is to be acquired and setup at a remote location. Do a nightly backup of Server A to the second Mac Mini so that Server B is a bootable clone of the primary server. What is the best software/approach to do this? I'm familiar with and use SuperDuper, Synchronize Pro and Carbon Copy Cloner for performing file by file backups and synchronization where the hard drives are on the same server ... but I'm not sure if any of these are the best alternative to backup a MAMP Pro installation on the Server (along with other applications and data) to a remote server box.

I realize that particularly within the Moodle VLE (that will be running on the servers) that absolute links will still point to the primary server but that is not an issue for me. In the event of a catastrophic failure of Server A at least there would be an offsite clone that could be accessed if a few settings were changed. Server A is hosted by a commercial hosting service and no backup drive is available on-site for a file x file backup/synchronization. We do have full access to the server via ARD, Timbuktu Pro, AFP, etc.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Remote Access To Network Accounts

My problem comes when wanting to get computers that are not on our internal network to conduct the same authentication process. On the external computer i go to login Options>network account server>and add the servers static IP address. But when i go to fast user switching and try to log in, the login window just shakes fails. What preference have I not enabled? TO make matters more interesting, I can successfully use the "connect to server" option in the "Go" menu of the external computer to connect to the servers file system using the same static IP address.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Choosing Just Upgrade Existing Installation?
I think I have everything on my XServe backed up in case it all goes screwy, but the Installer is worrying me. When I boot from the SLS disc, the installer starts, but it gets to the point of choosing the target disc and the button that is obviously to continue says "Install". Maybe it's me, but I was thinking I'd get the chance to specify that I want to UPGRADE and not a total erase first before that final looking 'Install' button. It just looks like it's going to go off and do it's thing without asking me first what that thing needs to be. Does 'Install' just take me to the next step and let me choose the install type? I've done countless installs, although not LS to SLS so far, but I still cannot remember and I'd rather not have it dump what's already there. Anyone familiar with the SLS install? At what point can I choose to just upgrade the existing installation?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: NetRestore Installation Hangs - Not Working Again
It's time for my annual "NetBoot isn't working again" post. Actually, I think I skipped last year... 10.5 seemed pretty solid for that. However with 10.6.4 I'm having a problem where the images get created okay but when the client boots and the installer loads, the indeterminate progress bar immediately freezes. I have left it for hours and it doesn't do anything. I have also run sudo tcpdump -i en0 -s 0 -nvX port bootps or port bootpc or port tftp and I can watch the communication between the server and client... once the installer loads and freezes, there is no further communication between client and server. I have created several images in my usual way -- set the system up how I want, connect it to the server in target disk mode and run SIU. The most recent image I made for testing was completely 'stock' with no workflow customizations in SIU... as simple a NetRestore as you could ask for. Still I get the same behavior. I have even connected the server directly to the client via ethernet -- same thing! I'm taking the image from a new MBP 13" and applying it to an identical MBP 13". I've even tried sending it back down to the same computer and got the same results. So at this point it seems likely that there is a problem with the image... ech image I've created, whether I've used a custom workflow, whether the image is 'stock' I always get this frozen installation screen. I suppose the alternative is that there is some problem with NetBoot but I haven't found anyone else seeing this behavior.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Upgrade Installation Failed On XServe
We have 3 Xserves, two which were on 10.5 and a new one that come loaded with 10.6. We want to move the other two servers to 10.6. I made a NetInstall of the 10.6 DVD and used that to upgrade one of the two Xserves without issue. When I tired to upgrade the remaining Xserve, however, the install failed. There's no error message, no hint of what's gone wrong -- only that the OS "cannot be installed on this computer". I've tried everything -- NetInstall, trying to install off the DVD directly, even trying to do a fresh install (and not an upgrade). Nothing works. Is there any way to find out what's causing the install to fail?
