Power Mac G5 :: Dual Displays On Power Mac PPC Dual 1.8ghz
I have been trying to set my PowerMac PPC G5(vintage 2004) for dual displays.I have two Apple cinema displays, either one will connect to the back of my computer via the ADC. The connector in the computer is an 18 pin (with funny jumper) female receptacle. It follows that the ADC on the display is 18 pin (with funny jumper) male connector. One of my monitors is brand new. I am using a Radeon X800XTC card that has one ADC (female receptacle) and one DVI connector (also female). Is this possible?? I did order what Apple told me would work, the DVI to ADC adapter, model M8661LL/B. I could not use this item on my system, as it comes with the exact opposite sex for the connectors! Also the Belkin adapter is the wrong sex as well.Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Power Mac G5 :: Dual 1.8Ghz Tower Won't Power Up?
I went on a weeks holiday, and stored the tower in a cool dry lockable cupboard for security. Cabled it back in to mains/monitor etc. Pressed the power button and nothing happens. There is a click from the front of the tower, the power light flashes on once for a short time then fades out.

I have tried resetting the PMU/SMU, unplugged machine for 10 minutes, pressed the PMU reset button etc. I have taken out the most resent RAM upgrade (installed about 4x months ago) still wont restart.

It's beginning to look like either a power supply failure or possibly a logic board failure.

Power Mac G5 :: Process Of Troubleshooting A Dead Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8GHz Machine
I'm in the process of troubleshooting a dead Power Mac G5 dual 1.8GHz machine. I've been through every procedure I can find on the Internet and I even have a second machine that I have been using to swap certain parts with for testing. During my experience I have had a few questions that I cannot find an answer to, even on other forums. If anyone out there can answer these questions, I'd be grateful.

1. The Power Macs that I am using to swap parts are slightly different models (revisions?). As far as I can tell one is an M9393LL/A (ser. no. G84010VSQES) and one is an M9454LL/A (ser. no. G84493NQQPQ). I know the CPUs are good in the M9454 model because the machine is working fine. When I put one of the M9393 processors into the working machine (M9454) in slot B, the CPU does not show up in System Profiler. The working machine boots fine, but it only registers one CPU. Does the logic board in the working PM automatically reject/ignore the CPUs from the other machine because they are from a different revision, even though they are basically the same spec?

2. If I can't swap the "in-question" CPUs into the working PM, how can I determine if one or both of the M9393 CPUs is bad?

3. In my experience there is normally a plastic or paper shield glued to the logic board beneath the dual CPUs. The logic board in the non-working PM does not have a shield. Is it possible that the lack of a shield caused the failure? Is the shield there to prevent contact between the CPU daughter board and the logic board? Or is it there to reduce heat transfer? Or, why is it there?

4. Is there any way to run a diagnostic on a PM that is completely dead and won't start or boot even from CD?

5. I'm 99% sure the logic board is bad in the M9393 machine, but how do you troubleshoot the logic board itself to find out what has failed? Or, do you always have to install a new logic board?

Power Mac G5 :: Dual 1.8GHz 2GB RAM Cannot Run IMovie
I have heard that despite what the requirements for iMovie '08 are, it will run on a dual 1.8GHz Power Mac G5 (I swear I read that a fellow PMG5 1.8GHz user was doing it...with if memory serves, 3GB of RAM.) But do I really need 3GB of RAM? I wanna max this bad boy out but I dont have the money to do so at the moment. However its beyond me as to why it installed without a single problem. It even says it requires a dual 2.0GHz. But I just popped the iLife '08 DVD in the Mac and it installed everything on the DVD no questions asked. What I find a bit weird is I went to a friends house (he has a PMG5 Single 1.6GHz 4GB RAM) it wouldnt install. Ok so maybe his specs were too low. =( but this thing is super fast. (Im running Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard hes still running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger (I sold him my 10.4.6 DVD when I bought my 10.5.6 DVD) And we have blazing fast machines.

Power Mac G5 :: Finding OS X Leopard 1.8 GHz Dual Processor
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 1.8 GHz on which I installed Leopard as an upgrade once v.10.5.1 was released. After the installation, I noticed intermittent problems of applications freezing on launch, abruptly quitting, and having to be force-quit to close. Some applications, especially Word and Quicken, sometimes give strange messages, such as being unable to find templates or unable to save memorized transactions or copies of a file. When these issues occur, rebooting the G5 makes them go away for a while.

Power Mac G5 :: Dual 2.7GHz Processor L.ED Indicator Is Red
I got a power mac g5 dual 2.7GHz here and it is acting weird. I found out it is the liquid cooling system that causes the problem. I took out the whole lcs unit and fix it. But when I put everything back, turn it on, there is no display and chime sound. The fan seems to run at the normal speed and when I check the processor board, there is a red l.e.d light at the bottom, which i didn't notice it before. Could that mean one of the processor is having error?

Power Mac G5 :: Dual Processor Runs Final Cut More Effectively
I've got two G5's (both running with Tiger 10.4.11). Power Mac G5 :: Dual 2.7 Has Been Showing 50% - 100% Processor Activity On Monitor
the Activity Monitor that I have up in the Finder toolbar has been reflecting some pretty high processing going on, even with nothing major running. What could be going on? Each of the two processors seemed to be running at an average of 50%, and even spike up to about 90% on occasion. I should add that I just recently installed Tor and Privoxy (though I do not really know hot to use them to make them effective, as I am still seen on [URl]

Anyway, could those things be causing what looks to be my processors working in overdrive? Interestingly, I haven't noticed an increase in sound/whirling/revving from my tower; so that's good at least. Also, I performed a power cycle, but still the same thing.

Power Mac G5 :: Using CPUs From DP1.8GHz In DP1.8GHz?
I have (2) Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz. One is a June 2004 and the other is a Late 2004. The June 2004 has had either a bad logic board or bad CPUs (since I bought it (it has never booted and usually gives the no good RAM banks error code when powered on. It does chime). I recently bought a pair of used CPUs for DP1.8GHz, but they turned out to be for the Late 2004, and not the June 2004. My question: can I install the CPUs from the later DP1.8 in the earlier one? Are the June and Late 2004 DP1.8s identical?
