Power Mac G5 :: Dell Says Need To Update Display Drivers - How To Find

I'm running an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card with a Dell 24inch 2407WFP monitor, and my original purchase has run fine on my machine for almost 3 years. However, I recently ran into problems with the power button and Dell sent me a refurbished model that does not work when connected via VGA (works fine via DVI). They are trying to tell me that I need to update my drivers and refresh rate (they recommend 75 or 72hz) but they cannot instruct me on how to do this because I'm on a Mac. They told me to contact mac and see if they have any updates for my display drivers, as they are confident the problem is not the monitor, but the drivers.

I find it very interesting that my original has worked great since day one (no drivers necessary) yet this refurbished model would suddenly require updated drivers.

Power Mac G5 :: 30" Dell Display - Lines Of Pixels Flickering?
I purchased a Dell 30" display, the 3007WFP-HC to be exact, and I have this weird issue with light green and blue lines of pixels flickering when I'm on a dark (not black) area and dark red pixels flickering on light (not white) areas of the screen. I have a link to some pictures and movies of what exactly is happening on my idisk . I called Dell and their Indian call center was no help. They keep saying its an issue with the video card or drivers. I bought a new, different model card from OWC,

IMac Intel :: DELL 3115 - Scanner Drivers - How To Use With My Mac
I was given a wonderful DELL 3115n all in one Color Laser. Prints beautiful over my network with all of my MAC's pulled the driver direct from DELL, no issues. Prints local VIA USB as well.

I want to be able to use the SCANNER function at the very least to SCAN via USB, but would REALLY like to SCAN via the network for all the MAC's to use the scanner functions.

There is no driver at DELL for the MAC's (which I think is totally stupid) is there a way to use my scanner with the MAC's - where can I get a driver or a workaround?

Hardware :: Using Touch Drivers For Dell SX2210T Monitor
I bought a Dell SX2210T touchscreen for use with my MacBook Pro, hoping I'd be able to find drivers for it. OS X 10.6 has API for tablets and multi-touch, so, I'm hoping to use this monitor for dev work until Apple releases their tablet and touchscreen iMacs.

I haven't been able to find drivers for the touch screen at all -- no multi-touch, not even drivers to emulate mouse clicks.

Touch-base is working on updating their Mac drivers to a new version that will support multi-touch with the touch screen in the SX2210T, but they won't be released for "several weeks". I'm hoping to find an interim solution.

Driver info for the touch screen:

MacBook Pro :: Software Update Wants To Continuously Update HP Printer Drivers Update 2.3?
Each week per schedule, Software Update pops up wanting to update my printer driver with the same exact driver as last week. I have HP printer drivers 2.3 already installed yet Software Update does not seem to detect it. It is easy enough to reject the update, but I am wondering if something is wrong.

As a matter of fact the driver or printer does not work well. The printer has to often be shut down and restarted in order to work. . I would not recommend the HP wireless printers to anyone who wants to get work done without interruption.

So, why would SU keep wanting to update the driver?

MacBook Aluminum :: Dell Display Cant Display Video Mode
I have a Dell LCD display which I have connected to my Macbook with a MiniDisplay Port to DVI converter, and then a DVI cable running to the display. My computer seems to acknowledge the display, but the display reads "Cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1360 x 768 @ 60Hz". When I go to System Preferences > Displays > Gather Windows, I can see the settings for the Dell display. They are the correct settings, the same as above.

Is there anything I am doing wrong or need to change to get the display to work? I would not like to mirror the displays, I would like to have it as an extended desktop.

Power Mac G5 :: Won't Recognize New Dell Monitor
about three weeks ago my co-worker and I buy two identical monitors (dell E228WFP) for our two identical Macs - Dual 2GHZ PowerPC G5 running the new Leopard 10.5.2, GeForce FX 5200 video cards we installed leopard right after putting in the monitors. So, not that I have to say it, but one computer recognizes the monitors just fine - reads the name, brand, and the native resolution - 1680 x 1050 @ 60hz, the other (mine), doesn't read it at all and so I am forced to select a resolution that's "close" to the optimum - which looks like crap. Yes, we've swopped cords, monitors, everything - same results. My co-worker's monitor is read and looks great - mine does not. I tried Dell's web site for drivers and it doesn't have any for MAC. hmm.... The CD that came with the monitors also did nothing for me.

I have two Dell CRT monitors attached to my 2004 G5 (dual 2 ghz) by using both ports on the back of my G5. I had trouble opening a game I was playing, getting the error "out of scan range" on one of the monitors when the game tried to reset it to 800x600 resolution. I tried messing with the screen resolution in System Preferences, by changing it to 800x600 then back to 1024x768, but got more problems. It's hard to describe, but it wouldn't display properly, with lots of horizontal lines. So I tried to restart. Then I got this screen of death written in nerd-ese:

Windows On Mac :: Where To Find Drivers For 7 64-bit
I just downloaded, burnt and installed the new windows 7 RC, x64, on my alu 24" iMac. Maybe I should have just taken the 32 bit version as it has only 2 gigs of ram, but I don't feel like wasting more time and another dvd on getting the 32 bit one. The problem is, everything went smoothly, partitioning, installing etc., but when I insert the OSX installer (1) dvd (10.5.4), it says that the 64bit version is not supported by boot camp. Apparently others have had this issue, but no one seems to care to write down there workaround anywhere. I read that using the vista 64 driver set works (also read it doesn't), so I downloaded it from the official Apple site. When I try to open it, it asks me if I want to allow the programme to make changes to my pc, I click yes, and nothing happens.

Mac Pro :: Dell Ultrasharp 24" 2408 Versus Apple LED Cinema Display
I really want a new monitor.

and now i have last 2 choice.

Dell Ultrasharp 24" 2408 vs. Apple LED Cinema Display

1) I'm using mac pro early 2008 that make me must to buy Apple's 4870 or GT 120 to drive 24" ACD, that make all money I must pay for apple is around $944 (1-yr apple care) vs. Dell at $560 (with 5-yr warranty). is it worth?

2) I hate glossy screen but love a new ACD design very much. some people say 24" iMac screen (S-IPS) make his eye pain when using that screen for a long time do your guys think about this ?

3) my current monitor is 20" ACD, my new monitor must be better (or equal) than it. can your guy say 24" Dell is better than 20"ACD in term of color. (old S-IPS in 20" vs. S-PVA)

Mac Pro :: Update / Replace Mouse Drivers?
I bought a Mac Pro last September, and I've had a run around of temperamental mighty mouse. Or so I thought. The one it came with I plugged in and it clicked like a mad demon, button 4 was basically useless as the slightest touch would trigger it. I had a Mighty Mouse that I owned before that I switched it out for, and the problem seemed to go away.

But it came back, and much worse this time. I unplugged the mouse to use it on my Macbook, and when I plugged it back into the MP the clicking went berserk again. This time I took it to the Apple Store to get it replaced. The genius plugged it into his Macbook at the desk, and it worked fine; no sporadic clicking at all. I assured him it did it like crazy and asked for a new mouse, which he replaced. He then threw out that it's probably not the physical mouse that's the problem, but rather the software in my Mac Pro. That kind of baffled me, but I had my new mouse and I was happy......................

Hardware :: Dell 2407WFP A04 Versus Dell G2410 Versus Dell 2209WA Versus Samsung F2380
I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my MBP, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the ones listed above.

The 2407WFP is a couple of years old now I guess, but it's the rev A04 version, which supposedly fixed the (few) problems with what was otherwise meant to be a great screen. It's an sPVA screen.

I've heard good reviews of the G2410, with its LED backlighting. It's still a TN panel and I hear so much bad stuff about them.

The 2209WA is an eIPS panel which I like the sound of, but it's smaller and lower resolution.

The F2380 is a cPVA panel, the image quality looks better but I've heard bad things about blacks on this panel.

Power Mac G5 :: Lifespan Back Up Drivers
How long would you expect a Power Mac G5 to last. Mine was a significant investment for me at end of 2005 and for the past 24 months (of course after the after care policy expired!) I have had sequence of issues, final one being new power supply in September. Last week, I turned on and within seconds the fan kicked in but nothing else happened - would not turn on. Result is that I have been advised I need either a new logic board or processor, and probably best to ditch it, but to put the 2 hard drives in casing to use as would back up drives.

Hardware :: Calibrating DELL U2711 Display
i have recently spent several evenings re-calibrating my Dell U2711 display and have finally come up with a fantastic image so I thought I'd share my results for those having trouble calibrating this display (given the low quality AG coating this display comes with, calibration can be quite tough). Plus, during my Google search, trying to find some calibration tips, I was surprised at how little I found. Most of the forums I went to are discussions about the AG coating with hardly any talk about calibration. So, because of that, I figured I should share my calibration steps.

I edit video so I managed to come up with a calibration that shows great shadow detail (without crushing the blacks) yet still gives a deep, rich look for the graphics as well. Everything from the highs to the lows look great! And parts of the screen such as the dock look so vivid it's hard to distinguish from an Apple Display in terms of richness and clarity (without the shine, of course). You can still see the grain of the AG coating on bright areas of the screen but it's hardly distracting at all. On a side note: this is a great display for editing video even with the AG coating but if you edit still photography I would stay away from the U2711 entirely: still image + still grain = disaster!

Unfortunately I don't know much about internal computer system settings or if all displays that Dell ships are identical, so I can't say for sure that the calibration I did will work for everyone. However, if all Dell Displays and Apple computers (I use a 2010 MacPro) are 100% identical when shipped, then, if you follow my steps exactly, you should be able to come up with something similar to what I got. But I can't say for sure:

Step 1: Setting up the display.

Set the contrast to 100% and the brightness to 80%. Set the Gamma to (Mac), the Mode Selection to (Graphics), and the Preset Mode to (Custom Color). Now, in custom color leave the green at 100% and set both the Red and Blue to 98%.

Step 2: Setting up the Mac.

Run your Mac's Display Calibration Assistant (located in the Display section of System Preferences). Select the checkbox for Expert Mode and keep clicking continue till you get to the section with the lined boxes with the Apple logo in the middle.

Now, for all 5 'lined box' steps, make the Apple logo disappear using only the left slider (do not touch the right slider at all). To make the Apple logo disappear (blend into the box) you must squint your eyes until the lines that make up the box itself become one solid color (my eyes were about 75% closed). Take your time and make sure you are confident that the Logo is gone.

Then, when you come to the gamma screen either select 2.2 or 2.15 - the proper setting should be 2.2, however, I found the blacks to be not as deep as I'd like them to be (most likely because of the AG coating) so I choose 2.15 which I found to be the key to giving the display the richness it needs to look great.

When you get to the 'Target White Point' screen, select the checkbox 'use native white point'.

Then save you calibration profile and exit the assistant. Now go back to your Dell display settings and set the brightness to 100% and you should be good to go! Note: if you find your screen to be a little too dark, re-calibrate but try selecting 70% or 60% for the brightness during step one. That way, when you raise the brightness to 100% at the end, it should be somewhat brighter.

I hope this works as great for you as it did me! And even if it doesn't, hopefully you will end up with something half decent. But either way, please do share your results - I know there are a lot of people out there struggling with this display because of it's AG coating and some are even attempting to remove the AG coating with bad results. I even considered removing mine but now I am glad I didn't take the risk (I suck at doing those type of mods, haha). Now, my display looks almost as good as an Apple display (and without any glare!
