Pages 09 :: Document Will Not Open - File Missing

I recently upgraded to Pages '09, and have created my first document it in, a four page newsletter. I attempted to open it this evening, and am getting an error message that says "Newsletter Name" couldn't be opened, the required index.xml file is missing. If I attempt to open it in Pages, it doesn't even show up on my recent list. I can see it in my documents, though, and trying to open it there gives me the above message. Is there a way to recover the document, or am I doomed? Obviously, I've now learned to save a copy, but I've never had this happen and have created over 50 documents in Pages '06 and 08. I can do a "quick view" and see the document in small format.

Pages 09 :: Can't Open A File Due To Index.xml Is Missing
After writing 138 pages of my PhD-Thesis and I have only 7 days left I got the error message canīt open file - index.xml is missing - shocking! So I called the support because I thought it canīt be lost due to the fully active preview - only pages did not want to open the file.

But I found a solution by surfing in different forum discussions and I want here to summarize, what to do.

1. A pages document is an archive - unfortunately in the latest version (iwork09) it is not signed as such anymore, what made older forum discussions quite irritating - but the tric is to rename the file to.zip and unpack the zip file.

2. Then it is possible to see if the index.xml is there (in my case) or if it is renamed to index-new.xml
in my case it was just possible to open this index file in textedit and save it again - if it has been renamed to index-new - simply save it after opening as index.xml. the rename the whole folder back to a pages document with the ending .pages and open it in pages like usual by double click. just as small aid for all other users with important document

Pages 09 :: Missing Font When Converting A Document From Word To Pages
The problem is that upon opening the file again i get a message saying 'Missing Font - Calibri' and there would appear to be no means of disabling this warning or of curing the cause of it.

Like most people who encounter this, I suspect, I don't care about the missing font, or to acquire it - i just want the warnings to stop and it strikes me as bizarre that Apple would not code in a way for users to disable unimportant warnings.

Pages 09 :: Double Clicking A Pages/document - Text Edit Tries To Open
I recently installed iWork '09. ( Pages V. 4.0.2) Now when I try to open a Pages document created in Pages '08 I get a message that says 'TextEdit cannot open files created in "Pages document" format.' I can drag a Pages '08 created document to the Pages '09 icon in the Doc and it will open it and then I can save it as a Pages document that Pages '09 will recognize.

I tried trashing preference files in both Pages '09 and TextEdit. No luck. I repair permissions on a regular basis. I don't understand why TextEdit would try to open the document and why Pages '09 does not open it unless I do those extra steps. I have a lot of documents created in '08 version.

Pages 09 :: Warnings Occurred On Word Document - Missing Font
Brand new to my first Mac, trying real hard. I just moved a folder of Word docs from my old PC over to Pages on my iMac. Opened the first one from Pages and got message: "Some warnings occurred / review / missing font". So, I set upon the Word doc. Did: select all / changed old Word Helvetica font to my fave mac font / then saved as a pages doc. I still get same missing Font Warning every time I Open Document. This could get old. My first attempt to make this go smoothly was to do the "Paste" of the files as a "Paste and match format", but it wouldn't allow me to do that.

Pages 09 :: Saved Document Will Not Open
My dad created a Pages document last night and saved it repeatedly. He went to print it this morning, and an error came up that the doc couldn't be printed. He resaved the doc, closed it, and went to reopen, and now he gets the error "The document ... couldn't be opened".

He has Pages version 9 and this is the only version he's ever had (he bought the computer in February 2009). This doc is 117 MB. When you open "Get Info", the preview box is blank. We tried opening other large documents (over 100MB) and they will not open either, however you can preview the page and actually see the doc. Smaller docs are opening fine.

Pages 09 :: Cannot Open A Pages Document?
I had no trouble opening Pages documents submitted to Blackboard, the college academic suite. I could open them, and return them to students with annotations for correction. But this semester one student with Pages '08 had difficulty, because being unaware of the student's version of Pages, I would return the annotated document saved as Pages '09, and the student was unable to open it. In Pages '09 there is no notification that a Pages '08 document is being opened. I have basically resolved that problem, although I still cannot tell if a '08 or '09 document is being submitted.

Pages 09 :: The Index.xml File Is Missing With Every File?
I upgraded to iWork 09 about a month ago. Seemed to be working OK until I tried to open several Pages templates that were created in iWork 08. All would not open and gave the error "The index.xml file is missing.". After reading a few posts thought that maybe I did something since going to 09. Re installed 08 and went to back up ~1 year old to get copies of 08 files well before installing 09. Tried each that had opened easily in 08 well before even getting 09, but get same error now even in 08. I am in major trouble since these files include one of a kind designs that I had backed up many manny times in the past, however now the backups are no good!

Pages 09 :: Wasn't Able To Open The Document
I'm a student and I'm using word processing A LOT. On my iMac I presently have iwork 09' and office 2008 for mac. I often create stuff on computers at school (office 2007 / XP) and bring em home by e-mail or usb key. For now, every single time I did that, Pages 09' wasn't able to open the document, but office 08 4 mac was. If I wanted to work on iwork, i had to open it with office 2008, save it in .doc file and then open it with iwork, and very often some details weren't there, things, texts, pictures had moved,etc... To create something, Pages is okay, but if I can't open files with it, that's dumb. Am I doing something wrong or iwork isn't reliable?

Pages 09 :: Document Will Not Open - Bad Access
I have a Pages document, created in Pages 4.0.3, saved in that format on my idisk. When I go to open it, it crashes Pages and leaves the following error message in the console log:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000f9172dfa
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

I have opened other Pages files before and after this one successfully (again, all created and saved on my idisk). Any ideas or suggestions why this particular file is causing trouble and will not open? Ways to repair this to get it to open? I can post complete log of the error if necessary for any troubleshooting.

Pages 09 :: Can't Open Document Using Word Or Text Edit
I just got a new white macbook and transferred some word documents to it. I was out of town and realized I'd forgotten to load the Word program, so I opened a couple of documents using Text Edit and saved them as new documents.

One document opened without issue, but the other document won't open with either Text Edit or MS Word 2004. When I try to open it in Word the message states it cannot be opened and may or may not be a valid word document. When I try to open in TextEdit the message states that the document is not in the right format.

Pages 09 :: Cannot Open Document (Standard Page Layout Templates)
I also cannot open a very important Pages 09 document built using mainly blank pages and a couple of standard Page Layout Templates. It is 80 pages of color photos with captions, totaling 1.7 GB. I saved everything successfully and kept it on my EHD, but now I can't open it, even when copied back to my laptop. The message simply says it can't be opened, with no indication why.

If I used too much capacity, why does the system not warn me? I can see the document through the ".pages Info" Preview thumbnail section, and can click through each page. However, although the document is set to "Open with: Pages.app" when I double-click on the preview, I get the same "can't open" message.

I couldn't find a way in iWork '08 - tried exporting to .pdf and merging documents, but I lose too much quality, and the page format from Pages (i.e. footers, etc.). I downloaded a trial version of iWork '09, however that doesn't seem to do the job either. At this point I don't need the Pages file to update with changes from the Numbers file, as long as I can incorporate one into the other at the end of the session.
