When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.
But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).
For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]

how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group. It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List." From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person. All well and good...Â

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

I must be missing something very obvious, but I can't seem to set Address Book to add all new contact info as "Work" entries. I have to edit every new entry and change all the fields from "other" to "work." This appears to happen when I "grab" phone or email info from an email message.

This is probably a stupid question, but why isn't there an address contact button that you can click on in a new message from MAIL? Am I missing something here? In all previous versions of the OS one could just do that and a list of contacts popped up and then you could click on one and it would go to the "To" slot. There's got to be an easier way than to open the contact book, find an address, copy it, then place it in the message "To" slot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo a while back I had final cut pro installed, and eventually deleted cause I no longer needed it. I used AppCleaner when removing to try and make sure I got it all.
Well every time I do a software update it wants to install "Pro Applications Update" and "Prokit Updates" Which are updates for final cut pro and its related apps.
Any idea how I can stop it from wanting me to install these updates for something I no longer have?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMinutes after receiving the Apple Security Update in my email, I quickly ran the system wide Apple Software Update (OS X Lion 10.7.4, Macbook Pro8,2). With the iTunes update came two other updates. The first update was for iPhoto '11. The second update was for the Thunderbolt to support Gigabit Ethernet. To the best of my knowledge, all went well with downloading. It was a hefty update, the iPhoto '11 update alone being 599.65 MB. After installation, a dialog appeared allowing the user to "Restart now" or later. A firm believer in immediately restarting the computer when it tells me to, I did so. Once the desktop faded, my mac began installing my updates as the updates could not have been installed while core system services were running. In about 10 minutes, the progress bar had reached the end, but a peculiar dialog appeared. It said that the updates that I wanted installed, were not installed. I pressed the only button on the dialog which removed the dialog box and left me with the empty wallpaper of the same texture as the iOS 5 Notification Center, the same wallpaper used during Mac Recovery during bootup. After another 10 minutes, nothing had changed; I was still staring at this lovely wallpaper. Knowing things had gone sour, I held down the power button for a few seconds until it turned off. After turning the computer back on, and booting into Mac OS X, I was, and still am, faced with a few lines of text.Â
Now I am unable to boot into Mac OS X.There is no recovery partition (as I'm triple booting, which apparently mac doesn't like), but I have booted into a Recovery-ish mode using the Lion Internet Recovery. I have verified the disk: no problems found, a good solid green line saying everything's ok. I went ahead and clicked on repair, to which it did not report fixing anything. I am currently booted into my Windows 7 (also noted my Windows is running incredibly slow, possibly just a placebo effect of me losing my Mac OS X) in which I am typing this. I have my Mac OS X backed up via Time Machine from earlier this morning but I would still like to not have to wipe hard-drive, install Snow Leopard upgrade to Lion, install Windows 7, install linux, and then restore respective operating system's data. Â Is there ANY possible way I can make my Mac OS X bootable again? Or even re-installing Snow Leopard/Lion without touching the partitions behind it?Â

When I run FCPX and go to about it clearly shows I'm runing 10.0. I've checked for software updates and that has not found the update either. This link says I can download it from the app store. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen OS X 10.7.3 came out I tried to install it and it got to "Moving files in place" at 95 or 99 % of completion and hadn't completed 9 hours later. I forced the system to shutdown and restored through Time Machine, but wasted a lot of time working on this. Consequently I declined all further requests to update to 10.7.3. Today I was prompted to upgrade to 10.7.4, this was probably the third or fourth time I'd been prompted, so I accepted it and started the install. At 95% while "Moving files in place" again the upgrade hung and after giving it a couple of hours with further progress I again forced a shutdown and ran disk utility to repair the disk, just in case there was a problem with it, and then again restored it with Time Machine.

Our software update service is not downloading the 10.7.3 updates. I have updated the server to 10.7.3 but it made no difference. I have start/stopped the service a few times - it as downloaded a load of multilingual voices post date 7th Feb 2012 and the Security updates for Snow Leopard post date 2//2/2012 just not the 10.7.3 updates. Do Apple put a delay in the server to try to spread the demand on bandwidth?
Clients are updating fine from the server all other services working normally.
This past Monday I arrived home after two weeks to find a bunch of updates waiting, which I happily installed. One was for the Time Machine/AirPort and the rest for the iMac. The computer would not restart after the updates. After spending the weekend reinstalling the system software and rebuilding the whole computer I went to restore from the Time Machine (but no!) and the Mac no longer communicated with the printer wirelessly. I think I figure out the Time Machine thing but I cannot print wirelessly even though the Mac says the printer is installed. I have a Brother MFC-J825DW?

Purchased and it appears to be downloading but stops about 3/4 of the way through and I get an "NSPortTimeoutException" error. I tried downloading a simple free app and same situation. I ran disk utility and hard drive is fine. I had no issues with running software update until recently. I thought this may be the problem so I ran software update again. I gives details regarding several updates. When I attempt to install the updates, I immediately get a prompt to restart my computer. Clicked restart and was presented with a screen that said "none of the software updates could be installed, an unexpected error occurred" I clicked OK, was left with blank screen that did nothing. So I powered down, and restarted, now I'm presented with a Unix screen indicating "unable to find driver for this platform" and a window instructing me to restart.
Restarting in any mode, shift, command, command s, etc will not move me past the Mac OS version not yet set screen. This is a mess. I installed Lion over the Internet and do not have a startup disk I can use to recover and reinstall to even restore from my Time Capsule ... Isn't there a way I can install over the Internet?

I currently am having my bandwidth to the Apple update server throttled. When I go to use the Software Update menu to download the updates it says that it will take 7 days to download a 200 mb update. If I go to the software download page in Safari, the same update downloads within minutes. Is there an alternative Apple update server address that I could switch to?
