Is this possible on an Intel Mac since both Linux and Mac OS 10.6 are POSIX compliant, and Linux WordPerfect 8.0 was compiled for an x86 platform?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWithout echoing the lament that it would be nice to have WordPerfect for Mac available once again, I am wondering: Excepting those who are porting over from the last version of WP for Mac, what is everyone ELSE using for word processing?
Specifically, I am wondering whether anyone can give me any guidance for a word processor that is "typist-based," rather than "graphics- or typesetting-based."
What I am driving at is: those who know WP remember that it was possible for a typist to do virtually everything WITHOUT having to lift hands from the keyboard. (Yes, I *know* one can do this in some ways with MS Word.) WP presented you with a "blank sheet" and you would JUST TYPE. When you needed to insert a footnote, a keystroke combination would do it; when you wanted to flush right, a keystroke would do it. Your hands did not leave the keyboard. Also, of course, there was that lovely "reveal codes" feature. But what I wonder is whether there is any other word processor that is full-featured and which works even remotely like WordPerfect does/did?
Just got a MacBook Pro and want to install WordPerfect, but have had trouble with Parallels. Anyone out there who has used WordPerfect on a Mac and if so, how is it done?
I want to buy the MacBook Pro but the thing holding me back is having to give up my WordPerfect. I don't like Word, and I have downloaded OpenOffice on my PC to practice. But I am having trouble duplicating the Merge feature I use on WP. I was hoping to convert my WP letter form file and my data file (with names, addresses, and other data) into OpenOffice to find out if I can do the same merges with that program.
My dad has only ever had Windows PCs. He's still on one, running XP. The one program he truly depends on is WordPerfect (for DOS).He needs a laptop, and to my great surprise, said he'd be open to getting a Mac, if he can still use this version of WordPerfect. Is this a sensible plan? (I've ONLY ever used Macs, by the way, and I've NEVER used WordPerfect). From what I gather, he could run it on a Mac via Boot Camp, or use VMWare Fusion. But would this work well?
I installed Parallels 5 for Mac, for the sole purpose of being able to run WordPerfect (which I adore and cannot live without) on my new Mac.
Parallels installed just fine, and apparently so did WPX4. However, when I launch WPX4 (either by opening the program or opening a document that then activates the program) I get an error message telling me that WPX4 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I have uninstalled WPX4, but not Parallels. Before I attempt to reinstall WPX4 or monkey around with Parallels,

My iMac 27" Lion hangs up emptying trash. This happened a few days ago and tech support helped unlock it, but I forget the keys they told me to press when I restarted it, to start it in a safe mode. Control or option then something else.

Sometimes when my screensaver kicks in the display never goes to sleep. Instead, the dancing screensaver, which is clearly running, is sucking up CPU and running hot for days. When I finally sit down and move the mouse, the pointer moves but the screen refuses to wake. This is a fairly new iMac, no mods, no programs installed of questionable nature, virtual new sock OEM iMac. Thinking about downgrading to SL as this is one of many problems that I have with Lion (not just on my machine but every Lion box). Has Apple peaked yet? Can we expect nothing but trouble from here on out?

My wife has a 21.5" iMac sitting right next to her 27" iMac at her work desk (both were bought new this year from the Apple Store). Â
Is it possible to use the smaller iMac as an 2nd monitor for the larger iMac? Maybe via thunderbolt?Â

I bought a new iMac back in October and used a Time Machine backup from my 2008 Mac Book Pro to get all of my files transferred over. The other day i went into my About This Mac section on my iMac and noticed (i think) im running in 32 bit mode on my iMac. Im not sure if its because my MBP was running in 32 bit mode or not. Im pretty sure my iMac is capable and equipped to run 64 bit. How do i get my iMac running in 64 bit, and if i do, will it cause any compatiability issues with my programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Paralells, etc.)?

I ended up getting the grey screen that wouldn't do anything, so I turned off the Mac, then turned it back on again and entered the Lion Recovery module. I selected reinstall Mac OS X, then I was taken to a screen with 2 choices - Macintosh HD or Recovery HD. I believe the Recovery HD was locked, so i (mistakenly?) selected the Macintosh HD partition. Will this create a problem, or was it the proper partition for reinstalling the OS? Everything seems to be working fine, with no more kext errors, but I'd like to avoid a potential conflict if the OS isn't installed in the proper partition.Â

I have an iMac currently running 10.6.8 (2.8 GHz i5 processor, 8 GB ram). I downloaded Lion. When I try to install it, everything seems ok, but it does pop a warning saying "OS X Lion: "Some features of Mac OS X Lion are not supported for the disk (volume name)". The "More Info" button takes me to this URL: [url]...kb/HT4649 "This message means the installer cannot create the Recovery HD partition on your hard disk. Recovery HD offers on-disk recovery tools, allows you to restore from Time Machine backups, reinstall OS X Lion over the Internet, or set a firmware password. Recovery HD is not needed to install and run OS X Lion, nor to access most of its capabilities and new features." To be honest, I can live without that. I do my backups with an online service anyways. So I click Continue. The install goes on, and very soon it prompts for a re-boot. So I reboot. When it comes back up, the "About this Mac" still says I'm on 10.6.8.I've done this now five times. I have a feeling I could do it forever and it would never actually install Lion.

How I can upgrade the OS on an Intel iMac from 10.4.11 to 10.7 Lion? I have the following OS install discs: 10.5.6, 10.6 (Snow Leopard) & 10.7 (Lion) but it won't let me upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6! You'd think I have enough discs to do the job.

I am trying to update my iMac from Snow Leopard to Lion via a purchased download. The first time it wouldn't install because it said the disk was corrupted and needed to be wiped. So I wiped it and restored to the starting position, did disk repair (all fine). Downloaded it again, after several failed attempts. Finally got it to download and install only to discover it wasn't working properly - Mail for instance didn't work - and used OSX recovery to reinstall, which downloaded "components" for 8 hours and then I got a big yellow triangle warning saying "installation failed." Â
I have used up all my high speed internet connection allowance for the month trying to do this, and am now back on a restored version of Snow Leopard. Any advice gratefully received! I simply don't have the ability or patience to try to download another 4GB.

I desperately seek help from the community as Apple itself doesn't seem to care much. After updating to 10.7.4 my Imac has become unusable. It goes into a loading state just about every 10 minutes at which i can do little more than move the mouse around. I know it is the new update causing this (and not the hardware) because i also have a Bootcamp partition which works totally fine. Does anyone have any advice or solutions? Unfortunately i am currently not in the position to reinstall my system. I have no more space on my external HD to back up everything and am not in the position to purchase a new hard drive. And in my opinion, i shouldn't have to resort to such drastic measures because Apple released such a terrible update.
