OS X V10.7 Lion :: Wireless Redirect Pages Not Working After 10.7.3?
Feb 17, 2012
Updated to 10.7.3 recently. When I connect to wireless networks that have a redirect page, the connection itself is successful but a blank osx window pops up with a spinning status indicator that keeps spinning until it fails. The login page never appears. Manually going to any website does not work either.

I have a mac mini and macbook pro.  As you will see, the issues are complex. I spoke to both Apple and my server many times: all determined to help solve the issue as a technical problem, but rather complacent about the strong possibility of new malware. Both ended up basically with 'dunno'.   Needless to say, I backup regularly via time machine. These probs represent the downside!  My workplace techs said one was probably flashback (dealt with as per apple advice), the other like dnschanger - but a new and more invidious version. I'm probably giving away too much information, but it's a bit late to worry about that. Â
Both did different things AT THE SAME TIME, with the same sites. Therefore, it was definitely not a server issue. Both were consistent.I've had odd behaviour: redirect included bypassing my proxy server and going online despite not putting in login details, and after logging in: in both instances, I was taken to Wikipedia front page. Also:Many times, lists of links instead of genuine front pages: Apple and server. Only 'big names' seemed affected. Other times, it looked ok but when I clicked on links I got nothing. I had problems logging on to App store and broadband provider, as well as software sites (2 x legit big apple-oriented companies). After the going online and redirect issue above, I decided to create new apple id and o2 email. I did a secure (as far as it goes) 7-layer wipe of the macbook, and reinstalled.Within a week, I had odd behaviours again. Two examples:

I have an Apple wireless keyboard and the F1 and F2 keys don't work. I am connecting to a early 2010 Mac mini and running OS X 10.7.4. Seemed like it quit working when I updated to 10.7.4. I've reset my SMC and PRAM twice. Is this a 10.7.4 bug? Any fixes?

I'm having trouble with people at my workplace spending too much time on non-work related websites (MySpace, YouTube, etc...). Ideally, I'd like to be able to do the following, but of course, this is a Mac. I would need it to work for both Safari and Firefox
code:Prank your friends by redirecting there favourite site into something there not expecting! NOTE: Heres the written tutorial because i forogot to put audio onto the video... ;( Written Tutorial: STEP 1. Find a website that your friend would NOT like to go to... STEP 2. Go to the site:
[URL] STEP 3. Type in the URL you would like to direct in the "Enter a host name for Forward DNS Lookup:" box STEP 4. Press look it up, and copy the IP address down. STEP 5. Click on "Start" ---> "Run" and type in "notepad cwindowssystem32driversetchosts" STEP 6. On the last line paste the ip address, press tab and type in the URL your friend will visit STEP 7. Save and test Once he goes to the website he wishes, it will redirect into the website you set it to Hope this prank goes well!
Failing that, is there a simple way of just blocking websites from the OS and only allowing administrator access to bypass these?

I recently moved into a student flat with 8 other people, and we have set up a fibre optic net contract with Virgin Media, who have supplied us with a Netgear Wireless N-300 router. When we first installed it we had a little problem with it not connecting to any of our laptops, but another flatmate has since 'switched the channel to 11' and now it works on their Windows ones. But not mine. I have an early 2008 15" MBP. I'm currently sat right next to the router but the only way I can get connection from it is through the ethernet. When I switch to wireless, I can pick up a full signal pretty much everywhere in the house - we have 3 floors - but no websites will load, Spotify won't connect etc. Occasionally it will grant me two minutes of very slow connection - taking a minute to decide to access a page, then not letting me go on the next and giving me 404s instead.
I'm not really sure how to solve this as I will definitely need internet connection for my studies this Sept. My room is the one directly next to the router room so signal shouldn't be a problem. I tried downloading iStumbler a few times but it kept crashing before opening. I do know, however, from my airport bit of about this mac:
AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8C)
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
Wireless Card Firmware Version:Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.38.35)
Current Wireless Network:Wharncliffe2k10
Wireless Channel:11
What should I do? I have had issues of signal drop in most houses (where Airport loses all its bars completely and won't connect) but not this issue of having signal and still not loading.

I am running a Macbook pro 17' and have home ADSL which I have been connected to fine for years now. About 3 days ago suddenly I started having some problems with the connection. Basically, It will be connected fine, showing full bars however I can't sign onto MSN, Safari keeps coming up with an error saying can not connect to the server and takes ages to attempt to load the page. The strange part of this is it does bring up the page sometimes. For instance Facebook will connect and I will be chatting away with friends yet it takes about 10 attempts to bring google up etc., but works on the off chance.
So I figure something wrong with my network work settings, Deleted them all and set them up again from scratch, nothing. I think software problems so to test went to my sisters place logged on fine and internet works a treat. Come home, same problem. My house mate has the same mac book as I do, works fine on his. My sister has macbook 13' thing, hers works perfectly too. I am seriously running out of ideas and don't fancy having to re-install OS X. My updates are up - to date. What I don't understand is it was working perfectly fine when I went to work then when I got home started playing up.

I have a very unusual problem on my mac notebook, which I have great difficulty finding a cause for.
I like to checkout the website www.guardian.co.uk on a regular basis. When I type the URL (correctly) or click a link, sometimes I'm redirected to a completely different site. The URL address bar still shows www.guardian.co.uk, but I might be looking at the www.google.ca homepage instead. A couple of other weird observations: Happens in both Safari and Chrome browsers Happens not only on www.guardian.co.uk, but also other sites as well (but more rarely). No obvious trigger. Site can be working one second, then I'm redirected the next second. May resolve itself before I reboot. Sometimes rebooting does not resolve the problem. My PC is on the same network. This problem does not occur ever. I maybe redirected to other sites other than Google.
I am completely stumped as to the cause of the problem. Anyone willing to step up to the challenge and suggest a solution?

I just upgraded Office to 2011 (not the beta).
How do I resend and redirect emails? The option are no longer there.
If I enable sync services it says it will merge my calendars and address book. I want to overwrite my Outlook data with ical and address book data but the option doesn't seem to be there. How do I ensure that I don't end up with duplicates?

I discovered a bit of an oddity yesterday.
I did a search on Google for a message board for an NFL team (Baltimore Ravens). The top link on Google was the message board on the official team site. When I clicked on the link, it redirected me to some random shady site. When I tried again, I got through fine. But I then reset Safari (deleting the cookies), tried it again, and the same thing happened. Yahoo provided the same issue.
I do not download anything except for Software Updates (I know about the trojans posing as codecs and pirated software, and have not downloaded anything of the such).
Out of curiosity, I tried Googling the website on a PC with Firefox, and had no problem. I downloaded Safari to that same PC, and the same thing occurred, so this clearly is a browser specific problem. Also of note is that on the PC, the AV detected a trojan about 5 minutes later.
I tried disabling Java, and the Google link wouldn't open the webpage the first time, but I did not get redirected. Typing the address in directly provided no problems.
I am at a loss. Is my system secure? I keep up with all updates (I am currently on 10.5.8, though). Has my system been compromised at all?

OK, I asked this question previously, but not quite succinct enough, I think. I have a Pioneer home theater receiver that is network capable, but not wireless capable. I want to get this thing on my home network without having to purchase another device as my Mini resides no more than 36" away from it.So far, I have been able to get the receiver to connect to the internet through Internet Sharing on the Mini, but it remains blind to, and invisible to my wireless network. I simply want to connect the receiver to my Mini via ethernet cable and have it see and be seen on my wireless network. url...

When I first set up my mail application on Mac to sync up with my web based mail (hotmail) I did not uncheck the flag NOT to remove the emails from the server. This resulted in all my mails until 2010 (time of Mail setup) to be synched up with Mail app on Mac AND removal of them from the hotmail server. Because of this, they are not accessible through Web interface anymore.
Since hotmail is using POP, I am unable to sync it back from Mail app to the hotmail server. I am trying to redirect all emails from Mail app to my hotmail account, but the redirection changes the from address field. I thought that the difference between Forward and Redirect was the way these functions interpret and act on the From field like:
- Forward function would change the From field to show the current account it is sent from
- Redirect function would keep From field intact in the message, so that my hotmail would see the original From field and not the one of my Mail account server.
It seems that both of these functions work more or less the same in Mail app. Could I get a clarification on it, or at least a solution on how to get my mail back to the hotmail server? I do not want to forward, since all the messages will appear like they were from me, causing a big mess.

When i try to open them i get the message 'the program quit unexpectedly' (translated from dutch) I think this is because i installed an older software version over a new one, but if this is the case, how do i fix it?
I if go to the apple sign and click there on software update that program shuts down too!

So...I just got my new MacBook Pro yesterday for graduation and I've been trying to connect to the internet wirelessly.
We have a Belkin 54G Wireless Router, which was private but I reset it so I don't think the wireless network is private anymore. So...my Mac now connects fully to the "Belkin54g" wireless network but I can't seem to get on the internet. We also connect through a Motorola modem.
I don't really know the difference between the DCHP and PPOEthingy....and network diagnostics apparently can't help.
I've tried putting in the IP address/subnet mask/etc but that doesn't work either. Sometimes it says its connected, other times it tells me there's no IP address.
If I need to call anyone, who should I call? The Mac people or the Wireless router/internet people?

So to preface my problem let me just say that ive got my own macbook which works on the same wireless network with no faults at all, so i assume its not an error with the networking hardware.
For xmas i bought my parents a macbook, recently (not sure how recently as theyve only just told me its happening) they can be browsing the web then all of a sudden the internet takes ages to load, it stalls on 'trying to connect' for a long time (40+ for each web page).
Ive tried using firefox and the same thing happens so it looks like its not safari specific, during this time i cannot ping [URL] through a terminal either or if i can the response time is unbelievably slow.
Now, ive tried disabling ipv6, ive set the dns servers to opendns and none of this has fixed it. if i click on the airport utility and turn it off and the back on it fixes the problem for a short period of time before it happens again.

Starting about 4 months ago my 3 year-old 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook's wireless started to not work very well. What was happening is that after starting the computer or waking it from sleep, it was able to connect to my network, but after about 5 seconds it would lose the signal despite being physically very close to the router without anything to block the signal. The problem progressively got worse, and at its worst it was only able to connect about 1 in 10 times. Either it wouldn't find the network at all, or it would find it but couldn't connect because "The connection timed out" or something like that.
I never bothered fixing the problem because my Mac was having a bunch of other issues at the time, so I was just going to fix them all by doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard once it came out.
So 3 days ago I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard (I formatted the harddrive then did a fresh install, not an archive and install). Unfortunately, it only kinda helped the wireless problem: I can now connect half the time rather than 1 in 10 times like it used to be.
I'm quite sure my network isn't the problem because everyone that has used my network in the recent past (which has been about 10 different PCs, Macs, and iPhones) hasn't had any problems. FYI, I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

I have been using my Macbook wirelessly for over a year now and never had a proble before until this morning when I was surfing the internet and for some reason it asked me for my WEP key which was not a problem because after entering it my wireless connection started working again, but after a while it stopped working again but this time it didnt ask me for the WEP key in fact the wireless icon has the check mark as it would be working but its gray out.
I know it is not the router because my other laptop is working fine.
Any idea what could be wrong?
the internet works fine if I connect it to a wired connection.

I have the Mid 2010 Mac Mini (yes, it came today) and I just installed Windows 7 RTM on it via boot Camp. I then out in the OS Install disc that came with the Mini and installed all the drivers, then restarted. Everything seems to work except for WiFi. It sees all the networks in the area, but whenever I try to connect to one it says "getting information from (network name)" and then it says "Windows was unable to connect to the network. This is before it even asks for a key. I've tried different encryption types and even tried connecting to an open network and all of them have the same problem. i am able to connect to any network fine on Snow Leopard.
