OS X V10.7 Lion :: Will Mountain And IOS 6 Force To Use ICloud
Jun 12, 2012
Reading the previews of mountain lion and ios 6, I get the impression that I'm going to be forced to use ICloud. Is this true? I don't want to be in the Cloud. And I don't want apps like Twitter mining information from or sharing information with, my Contacts. Should I upgrade? What happens if I don't? I have a macbook running lion and an IPhone 4 running Ios 5.

I resent that Appple forces us to pay for and download Lion in order to switch to iCloud, a system that has many users furious. After downloading Lion, my personal cd archives from iTunes vanished, and several of my friends, on switching to iCloud, lost their mail contacts. YES - they followed the complicated instructions from Apple as to how to save everything, but so much fell apart. I had a chat with an Apple person and even she was mystified. I was going to buy an iPad but now I won't as just having an iMac is enough with so much difficult stuff going on.

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

I see older posts on this but nothing new, and I was hoping maybe newer versions of Mac OS X have solved this. I have a big family, and often my kids forget to log out of their accounts; eventually, the machine slows to a crawl for all the apps they collectively leave open. Is there a way to automatically force accounts to log off after a certain amount of idle time, or a way for me to "bulk" log them off? Restarting the machine or individually logging into each account is one way to do it, but it sure is inconvenient when all I want to do is hop on for five minutes to check email etc.

A friend's Son is being very "unproductive" with his Macbook Pro. I'll just leave it at that.
He would like to force-shutdown his Son's Mac from 10pm to 4am, so that it cannot be restarted unless an Admin uses it (my friend).

After the disaster getting Quicken for Mac 2007 (or earlier) to sort-of work on Lion, has anyone checked if the Lion Compatible Quicken for Mac works on the new Mountain Lion operating system? Even though this isn't an Apple problem, I know I'm not the only person who would love to update to a new Mac; however, they all come with Mountain Lion, and many of us are terrified of losing financial data if there's another

I am getting following error after opening Ooo (Open Office org) "The application “OpenOffice.org” was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?" And nothing is happening after pressing both available button "Restore Windows" or "Don't Restore Windows". Even when i am trying to shot down my system Ooo stops me for doing that.I have to force quite it before restarting/shutting down my system. Nothing is happening when i am trying to opening any doc or xls file i am getting same window every time. I have also tried to install new updated version of Ooo, but problem still exist.
Steps I followed.
1- Selecte OOo from application list and Make move to trash.
2- Selecte OOo folder from /Users/Fauad/Library/Application Support and make move to trash.
3- Empty the trash.
4- Install OOo new version.
5- Run it
I have read post about command for terminal like rm -rf .DS_Store i have tried running it in Appplication, Library/Application support, or on Desktop as well but nothing changed. As far as i remember the problem is because i have forced quite all open application before shtting down my system.

I have Seagate external drive. In the past few days a message pops up "The disc was not ejected properly", in spite the icon is still on the desktop.
I restarted the finder and nothing showed up, empty desktop. I forced shot down, and I could not log in with my password, because the keyboard would not type. I shot down the computer holding the power button, and disconected the external drive. I could login, bot my outlook 2011 would not start and Adobe acrobat would crash. I rebuild the outlook, and restarted the computer. Went back to normal so far.
Question, what caused all this mess,
a) is external Seagate drive duying (Disk utility said that the drive is OK)?
b) Did I catch a virus?
Also every time I force shot down, I have to rebuilf identity for outlook 2011. Very disturbing. I never had these issues with Snow Leopard.

Every time I want to shut down my late 2011 MacBook Pro, Mac Mail cancels the shut down & I have to force quit mail. I was having this problem on my old 2008 MacBook before I upgraded to the Pro (but it only started after I upgraded to Lion OSX). So what's wrong w/ Mac Mail? And is there some setting I can change? This is an annoying time suck.

I've got a very annoying issue with Mail 5.2 (1257).I customized the main application window so that it would only take a small amount of screen space. My problem now, is that every time I close Mail and open it again, it looks like much larger. So I have to rescale the window every time I open Mail, which is quite frustrating. How to force Mail to keep the same window size?

My Time Machine drive is a USB hard disk, and when I plug it in, I am unable to get it to eject (even if the Time Machine preferences show that I am NOT backing the disk up). When I unplug it, I get the warning message about not unplugging drives before ejecting. Is is there a way for me to "force eject" or force anything accessing my time machine volume to shut down, so that I can properly eject it?

When I open the force quit window, it fills my entire screen, and it is larger than the screen of the TFT monitor that I am using from time to time. How can I change its size back to original? The window is not resizable by dragging its border or clicking the green plus button in the title bar.
I don't know how the window got this size in the first place. All I know is that it happened during a crash where I closed a lot of other windows and where I accidentially clicked the green plus button of the force quit window instead of the red x.

Suddenly, my scanner disappeared from Print & Scan | System Preferences. The maker warns me specifically NOT to use the CD that came with the scanner. So I downloaded a new driver, installed it . and System Preferences | Print & Scan will only offer me the option to deal with my printer. No scanners appear, though I've rechecked the connection, and restarted my system. Data: Mine is a MacBook Pro, and the scanner is Epson "Perfection" V300 Photo.

My Mac Pro RAID 5 (with Apple RAID controller card and RAID 5 volume with 3 hard disks) showed degraded RAID set message due to failed drive. After I repalced the failed drive, I was unable to add it back to the RAID set. So I tried to removed or deleted this RAID set so that I can rebuild the RAID set from scratch. No matter what I did, I was unable to delete the RAID set using the RAID Utility.

Whenever I try to install the latest preview of Mountain Lion, it says"Some features of OS X Mountain Lion are not supported for the disk "R2iMac". The warning directs me here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649 It seems like it'll let me continue, but once it restarted it eventually said the installation failed. The point is I do have a Recovery HD and I don't know what to do about this. Check out my partitions:And here's the error dialouge: Please advise.

I am currently running version 10.7.4 from what I read and what I was able to make out from my serial number I wont be able to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion as it says my imac is a late 2006 model.I am just curious if I am able to run Lion why Apple isnt supporting the older models that can? Seems odd to me and it is not in my budget to buy a new mac and my current one is running perfectly. I'm not sure how much I will miss out not having Mountain Lion.
